PostgSame 5-3 Loss

The score was 5-3 against at the end. This is not much different than the other times.

At the beginning, the Angels scored one and the Astros scored one. The score went 1-1 for several innings. Here is Schanuel who singled in Taylor Ward in the first for the Angels run. 2-1 Astros.

Yordan Alvarez homered at the top of the fifth inning, putting the Angels behind 3-2. After a few batters Victor Caratini singled in a run to make it 4-2 in favor of the Astros.

Now we had another stretch of scoreless baseball. It was 4-2. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Angels batters got a couple of walks and a hit (on shoelaces) by pitch awarded to Nico Kavadis.

Logan O’Hoppe hit an RBI single that proved to be complicated. Taylor Ward Scored and Nolan Schanuel was out on the reviewed play.

So what, though? Pinch hitter Kyle Tucker erased that with one swing in the top of the ninth inning to make it 5-3 Astros. Guillermo Zuniga served it up.

We came to the ninth down by two and depending on Wagaman, Adams and Lopez to get something started.Eric Wagaman hit a long fly ball out. Jordyn Adams singled on a liner to center. Matt Thaiss pinch hit for Lopez and grounded to Jose Altuve for a double play that ended the game.. The Angels lost 5-3.

It was a fun night at the yard. Laws s great spend time with family and friends. Some nice defensive plays and a near come from behind rally made it even better.

No need to be down and already talk about next year, we still have something to cheer for. ‘The Best of the Worst Series’! Six game home/away against the White Sox. This will be epic, like Battle of the bay, Subway series.. Or at least a measurement of how really bad Angels are this year if they lose.

Win or lose, it would at least be entertaining if they were all 10-9 games.

Oh joy…at least they can’t catch us for the worst record in baseball.

We could on the glass half full side catch Oakland for fourth place!!

Okay so it’s like Groundhog Day but let’s look ahead to Andy McDowell ending the monotony we have experienced. Here’s what I focus on for some degree of optimism.

1. Perry has shown an ability to identify young talent. Angels should have a top 5 draft pick.

2. There is some young talented pitching in the Org.

3. Neto, O’Hoppe, Schanuel and Joyce appear to be legit major leaguers and maybe All Stars.

4. Arte committed to Perry. That seems to me to mean he likes and is committed to the youth movement.

5. “Only” two years left on the Rendone contract means it’s likely easier for the team (ie Arte) to DFA him.

6. Maybe, just maybe, all this losing leads to Arte losing interest and selling the team.

It’s not a lot but to quote another movie- you mean I have a chance?!

I agree with everything you said except for Schanuel. He plays an offensive first position and he’s a weak hitter. On top of that he doesn’t run very well and is a below average defender. If he was a slick fielding 2B that ran well, I would feel optimistic. He’s only 22, he’s a great kid , and has a great attitude, His one current strength is strike zone judgement but he has yet to leverage that into a high BA or OBA. He’s a 1B that hits like a SS, and not like our SS. They need to rebuild his swing and refocus him on using his lower body to generate power. If he hit the ball harder it would improve every facet of his hitting, BA, OBA, and SLGA. All of you points are excellent but they have a ways to go. They aren’t just 2-3 players short.

Great second to the last game this season for the Trash Pandas. The Pickle man dominated the Lookouts last night with 6 no hit innings and a shitpile of strikeouts while CMoore made his late season return with 3 hits including a double . Today is the season finale with Brett Kerry taking the bump . Not sure if Moore will play but I’d love to see all the Trash Pandas go out with a bang .

They let Verlander off the hook in the first inning. Should have crushed him.

Can we do this again for another year with the same roster or do we need to make some changes? If we go with much the same roster, what would lead you to believe the results would be different at least from an offense standpoint.

The only light ahead is Trout somehow playing. Yeah, I know

Yep- all we need is 162 game seasons from Trout and Rendon.

An icicle has a better chance in he-l-l than even one of those playing 162 in a season.

Actually, we’re better when Anthony doesn’t play. He isn’t any good any more.

I’m resigned to the fact that we will finish under 500 each season for the next 30 years.

It looks like that now but obviously a lot can change. I would like to see some improvement next year. If we can add to Neto, O’Hoppe, Joyce, and Soriano, that would be a big plus. I think we will with pitching but I’m not as optimistic about the hitting.
