Angels Finally Win a Game

August is almost over and the Angels still do not have 60 wins. It wasn’t a good stretch at all, and the Angels look terrible, losing game after game series after series. Can they eek out a win finally? Or will they be swept again? Jack Kochanowicz tried to right the ship by pitching a quality start! He went 6 shutout innings giving up 5 hits, but no walks while striking out 4. It was exactly what this team needed.

4K glory

What was also needed was offense and for the first time in a long while, the Angels had it with enough runs to win finally. Neto broke out of his slump, and M-I-C-K-E-Y did something again! Rendon didn’t, but he is such a non entity at this point it would be a surprise if he did.

Highlighted Recap

Neither team scored until the 4th, when M-I-C-K-E-Y doubled in a run.

1-0 Angels

Then in the 5th, Neto hit his 20th home run of the year, becoming only the 2nd Angel SS to ever have a 20/20 season.

3-0 Angels

Things got scary in the 8th, and Ben Joyce was put in for a 4 out save with the bases loaded and 2 outs. He struck him out.

Still 3-0 Angels

He got the save and the Angels finally won a game!

Upcoming

Weekend Series vs the Mariners and then it is Labor Day. Wait, really? Wow, this season is almost over. And on Sunday, the Angels will have their best pitching prospect make his MLB debut! Yeah I know, the Angels have a pitching prospect!

WOOO

Any of you care to go to a game? It is Rev’s Birthday on the 28th. Who wants to come? We can get the good seats for a reasonable price due to how bad this team is. Anyone who wants to come respond to the top comment. We need a head count.

I’m glad we won, but wild coincidence if they lost today from this post 10 years ago today.

Zach Neto is easily our best player and with room to improve.

Will any of our starters hit for .275 by the end? Seems very unlikely. I hate this era of generally low batting averages.

Casen Dana, you’re up.

If he had to do it, Perry picked a good team to have Caden and Aldegheri make their major league debut. Just still feels a bit reckless and hope it does not hamper their development.

Who needs Ohtani 40/40 when we have Neto in the 20/20 club!

Kochan needs to work on getting a bit stronger and his control this off season and he could be a good #5.

Caden Dana – an anagram for Nada Dance – is really going out of the frying pan into the friar. We wish the kid the best of luck, of course.

He was drafted out of New Jersey’s Don Bosco HS, and I can’t for the life of me understand why they’d name a high school after chocolate syrup. Don must be an alumnus, or he gave them a lot of money. “I’m the syrup king,” says Bosco, as he forks over the do-re-mi moolah to get a high school named after him.

What? I’m being told it’s some sorta Catholic thing. Nevermind.

I changed the spelling late in the post to harmonize with the Catholic bit at the end. Good catch!

Oh yea! Ref to the xmas flick where the kid turns cryptologist over the radio waves. Hate to ruin it for anyone else, but it turned out to be a “crummy commercial.”

Well as we’re closing out August 2024, I was right again, so what else is new?
I wanted former Padre’s skipper Jayce Tingler over Washington (oldest manager in MLB) and now guess who’s in last place now? Jack Frost and CB26 PLZ respond.

It’s a race to see who can land Jayce Tingler to fill their manager seat in 2025…

I know I’m excited. My guess is it could be a 10 year Soth like contract? Or maybe a lifetime?

Joe McCarthy or Casey Stengel could not have done better with this group of marginal MLB players. I was not sold on Washington at the start, but he did a job as good as anyone in history. So do you believe that Tingler was going to be worth enough wins to get us to the playoffs, or even to a .500 record? Your ego is cloudy at best as you are a fraud at even trying daily to point who we should have drafted instead of the player we got. Do you make a list and name players for 18 rds we should get? No one person can claim they know more than any other when it comes to the draft as it takes a team of a lot of people to make decisions on who to draft and the Angels do not have those positions filled.

Tingler? He was in over his head at San Diego, lost trust with his players. Hard pass.

If only ANYONE else had thought the team might kinda suck this year. AND if only ANYONE in baseball though getting more Tingler was what would take a team from sub sub .500 to good in a single tingle….

I read an article saying the white sox(2005 cheaters) had 150 people at their game vs Texas but the announced figure was 11,000. I’ll keep that in mind for our games

Lol. Angels must use same math. I’m in Seattle and went to Mariners weekday day game and scratching my head how Angels and Mariners avg game attendance is nearly the same over 30k

How did the WS “cheat” in 2005? If you mean the dropped 3rd strike, Darin Erstad does the exact same thing, everyone knob-slobs one another on HH spooing HARD NOSED ANGEL BASEBALL BABY!

That strikeout pitch on Torkelson, just wow. Joyce is nasty. It’s not fair that he can throw that splinker 10 mph slower than his 4-seam, but its STILL 94 and has wild movement.

Torkelson was beyond frustrated at how impossible it was to make contact.

THIS JUST IN:

Ben Joyce continues to be breathtaking. Slinker was 94, but must’ve looked like a Jared Weaver changeup to Torkelson. Remember those 67 mph things of beauty?

Ben Joyce in 4-out save today: 16 pitches, 14 for strikes.

Silent C in the month of August:

4 starts 2-1 2.45 ERA 1.13 WHIP

I think we got ourselves a legit starter kids. If Caden is the real deal and Detmers is back that would be pretty sweet.

Toss in Soriano and some good luck and we have a young, potentially decent starting rotation in 2025.
