Let’s play two! Or at least try to play two games. RIP Ernie Banks but thanks for the tagline that will forever go with double headers.
The Yankees are a good team fighting for playoff position. The Angels are not. That was on display early today when the Yanks took a 2 run lead in the bottom of the first inning. That lead was stretched to 3-0 in the second inning. Davis Daniel was able to work out of a jam in the third to put his first zero on the board.
Luis Gil was wild early, issuing 5 walks through the first 4 innings and throwing two wild pitches in the 4th. But the Angels were unable to make him pay, striking out 5 times in 4 innings and stranding runners on first and third in the 4th.
A couple more runs for the home squad in the bottom of the 4th made it 5-0 Yankees and this one looked to be over.
Zach Neto had himself a day and he’s been having a lot of days lately. First he flashed some leather.
Then he showed some pop.
How hot is Neto right now? Very.
And it was good to see Anthony Rendon back. He had two hits including a double and a walk. He also advanced three times on wild pitches. Not sure I’ve ever seen a guy benefit from three wild pitches in a single game.
