This one is on me, folks. Not only did I link a Soriano piece for tomorrow, I had the audacity to say I was wrong about him as a starter in the gamethread.
The moment that digital ink dried, he unraveled. Soriano went from throwing absolutely filthy pitches to having no control. He was dialed in to start the game.
And he also got a little help from Luis Rengifo.
But then I opened my keyboard and jinxed the whole thing. A solo shot by JJ Bleday was followed by this three run blast by Lawrence Butler.
At that point the game was basically over, so Ron Washington let Jose Marte come in and do Jose Marte things like put the game out of reach.
Nolan Schanuel knocked in two in the 7th to make the score a little more respectable at 7-3. Nolan cashed in another runner in the top of the 8th and then came around to score on Brandon Drury’s RBI single. On the night, Schanny went 2 for 4 with a career high 4 RBI.
The Angels lost 7-5.
And I couldn’t write this without linking this pillar of the baseball community. We need guys like this in Anaheim.

And it should be a lesson for those wanting to predict wins/and or stellar performances from starting pitchers or position players. Negativity to create a reverse jinx is okay, but please, please do not predict sweeps, wins or especially blow outs of weaker opponents.
One of us (or more!) should take a hint from that A’s fan with the big sign.

Ward’s fingerprints all over this loss with his glove and bat. We don’t need to see Ward, Adell, nor Moniak in an Angels’ uniform come 2025.
On a positive note, Schanuel has really started to put it together recently. Hitting the ball with authority in the air.
But I thought Schaunuel sucks and Perry is Stoopid for drafting him.

I would draft an outfielder with our first pick this month based soley on the fact that Ward should be traded and that Adell and Moniak are fourth outfielders at best. That leaves us with a hobbled Trout as our only outfielder.
