The Sandyman Can’t

Luis Rengifo hit a homer to get us started in the first inning.

That was soon answered by the Guardians who scored two on a single and a wild pitch in their part of the second inning.

Sandoval hit a batter to lead off the bottom of the second. Then he coughed up a two run homer to Jose Ramirez. 4-1 Guardians. Sandoval gave up a one out walk to David Fry but managed to get out of the inning without giving up any more runs.

In the top of the third, Andres Gimenez was hit by a pitch and Jose Ramirez homered (4-1 Cleveland). Singles by Ward and Rengifo plus a wild pitch and a fielder’s choice gave the Angels another run. 4-2 Angels. The Guardians scored 5 in the top of the fourth inning. I don’t even want to type everything that happened, it was that bad. Suarez came in to pitch, in case you were wondering how bad it was. Apparently this is not one of the nights that we were chasing wins. 9-2 Guardians. Is Sano available?

The Guardians only managed to score one more run in the fifth. 10-2 Guardians. In the bottom of the fifth, Nolan Schanuel grounded out and Luis Rengifo doubled made the second out at third base in that play. Duh! Taylor Ward walked but Kevin Pillar struck out.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jo Adell did manage to homer. 10-3 Guardians.

Nothing else happened for a while. Logan O’Hoppe homered in the bottom of the eighth to make it 10-4. We got ’em right where we want ’em.

Then we came to the bottom of the ninth. The Angels did nothing. The Angels lost 10-4.

what’s even more frustrating, Seattle leads the division with a 27-26 record. All five teams have given up more runs than they’ve scored. With any kind of improvement over 2023 we’d be right there. Even now we’re only 5 out in the loss column.

With the A’s and White Sox not being able to select higher that 10th in 2025, Halo’s have a good chance at top 4-5 worst case. That is, they just keep playing to their potential. Rockies and Marlins are sure to crash harder than the Halos.

More ping pong balls please.

Best day off the week is finally here — Soriano Day !! Which will be followed tomorrow by the 2nd best day of the week — Detmers Day !

Cleveland is on a crazy heater right now. Winning these 2 will keep the vibes high.

Anyone care for a stat check on 👑 Luis?

Having review the Cleveland lineup, I understand Ramirez, Naylor, and Gimenez. Who are the other guys and how are they combining for so many runs?

Still a much better hitter RHB (1.264 OPS) vs LHB (.764 OPS) This is consistent with last year’s platoon Splits RHB (.928 OPS) vs LHB (.727 OPS) I would totally lead him off against LHP’s

That’s such a drastic split it makes me wonder if he should just always bat right handed.

I think he ditched switch hitting at one point but then came back around to it.

Oy Sandy, this isn’t the way to do it. If the team is going to be able to trade you by July and get some decent return back, this is a huge step backward. Gotta get your ERA to 3.50, man!

Let’s say he does get to 3.50 ERA, Halos would be fortunate to get a teams top 10 prospect. Sandy has just sucked so bad for consecutive years. Maybe can just hope for 2-3 top 30 guys. Like the reverse occurrence when Angels acquired Bundy and dealt away a low ranking prospect in Bradish and 3 other arms.

That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m not expecting a top 10 prospect in exchange for Sandy, but maybe a Clevinger or Bradish type, where no one blinked that they were gone, but went on to have good careers. Sandy’s young enough still, and if there’s a team desperate enough, he could get a decent return. But not this way.

But if Sandy got down to a 3.50 we’d want to keep him. It’d mean he’d be at 1.50 from here til the trade deadline.

Cool title.

I checked my phone once. 1-0 Angels. Twice. 4-1 Guardians. Thrice. Suarez on the hill 9 to whatever.

As thinking I’d hear there Sunday. UCI game sounding like a better option.

Alright everybody, gather around
The Sandy Man is here
What kind of Sandy do you want?

Who can take a home start (who can take a home start)
Sprinkle it with poo (sprinkle it with poo)
Cover it with disappointment and a 2 out hit or two?
The Sandy Man (the Sandy Man)
Oh, the Sandy Man can (the Sandy Man can)
The Sandy Man can ’cause he mixes his pitches with love
And makes the other team look good (makes the other team look good)

Who can take a Meatball (who can take a Meatball?)
And wrap it in an ERA over 5 (wrap it in an ERA over 5)
Soak it in runs and make a groovy Loser pie?
The Sandy Man (the Sandy Man)
The Sandy Man can (the Sandy Man can)
The Sandy Man can ’cause he mixes his pitches with love
And makes the other team look good (makes the other team look good)
The Sandy Man takes every pitch he makes
Satisfying and delicious
Talk about being suspicious
You can even hit his pitches

Oh who can take tomorrow (who can take tomorrow)
This Dip shit of a team (dip shit of a team)
Separate the sorrow and cause all to scream?
Oh, the Sandy Man can (the Sandy Man can)
The Sandy Man can ’cause he mixes his pitches with love
And makes the other team look good (makes the other team look good)
