4-2 Orioles
It’s a little early in the season for the extremely pessimistic things I want to say, so let’s start with positives.
Reid Detmers was against probably the consensus deadliest offense in the American League, and managed to keep the Halos kind of sort of in the game, twirling 7 innings of 4 run ball and the defense was somewhat passable if we overlook the Orioles taking free bases on O’Hoppe. In fact, if we compare it to the Reds series, we had a bunch of David Fletchers on the field basically.
As expected, it was the Halo bats that put up too little too late against an incredibly effective Baltimore pitching staff. Albert Suarez in particular made Anaheim bats look silly, giving him now 11.1 scoreless innings on the season. The bullpen was a bit easier to touch up, with Jo Adell getting to a low Baumann heater to end the shut out. Nolan Schanuel also found a unicorn while in the box, knocking a runner on 3rd in by way of base hit. There would be one last little rally in the 9th against Craig Kimbrel with Trout taking strike 3 to end the game.
I’m really glad we are getting the rough stretch out of the way early. After this Orioles series, it’s gonna be smooth sailing from here on out on our way back to .500. Trust.
Mike Trout in 2024
Bases empty: .280
Men on base: .194
Men in scoring: .133
High leverage: .111
And that was *before* he struck out with the bases juiced tonight.
Mike Trout in 2023
Men in scoring: .214
High leverage: .240
As he ages, Trout is increasingly defined by what he cannot do when the game is on the line.
Not the 1st time Trout failed when the game was on the line and sadly not his last.
Whatever else happens, I hope Adell is a full-time player the rest of the way.
I just want to see what 500 at bats in the same season looks like. We’ve come this far with him, let him sink or swim now.
Seriously, agree. Avoid the need to play matchups and keep him in the lineup.
Been saying this since before the season started. He needs to be in the lineup every day. We need to see what he’s capable of given the opportunity and if he sucks then DFA or trade him. You’re not going to see what he’s capable of only playing him a couple times a week.
I’m afraid the rough stretch will be all 162 games.
One loss really just bleeds into the next, doesn’t it?
Boy, when Trout and Ward go cold we’re screwed.
Stop wasting Detmers! 😂
Like a contagion.
Now the Angels are wasting Jo Adell.
And the Lakers lose after being up by 18
Saw that sorry. Rough night. Midnight’s another day.
People still watch the NBA? If I could kick the Angel addiction,
I’d be free of team sports. I’m almost there !!!!
lol. It’s my last sport/team too.
14 year olds watch the nba and then they hit 30 and realize it’s a terrible product and stop.
It’s a sport that’s marketed on players, not teams.
Except for the Lakers and Celtics.
Another predictable ending.
Moniak looking like the 1st round burnout he was destined to become.
He has not looked good.
Who looks good?
Sano?
He dropped 40 lbs
Best shape of his life

The frustrating thing is that the first pitch of the at bat was a flat fastball right down the heart of the plate, because Kimbrall knew Trout wouldn’t swing. Free strike.
Swings at balls. Looks at strikes.
Mike was looking for a knuckle curve there. If he gets it he probably hits a Grand Slam and wins the game. But Kimbrell is a veteran and very savy. When he saw Mike take a fastball right over the plate he KNEW he was looking off-speed. So Kimbrell stayed with the heat and got him out. He outsmarted Mike in that AB.
As do most opposing pitchers that face Trout with runners in scoring position
It is important however not to lay the loss at Trout’s feet. I mean, he was not the only one who didn’t come through in the 9th. In fact, he needed a hit to score a run or more and Schanuel only needed a medium fly ball or grounder not right at an infielder. Nolan failed to do his job as well. Yet nobody here is calling him out for his failure. Yeah, I know he’s a rookie, but he still failed to get his job done. Plain and simple. But, in the end one player doesn’t usually win a game and one guy almost always doesn’t lose it for you…
Overanalyzing. Trout struggles with high heat and Kimbrel went there with pitch 2, 3 and 4. As a hitter, you react off the fastball, Trout will tell you that.
Well, Trout in fact DOES look breaking ball alot. And he hits it real well when he looks for it and gets it… I think the better approach there is to look fastball first pitch so the pitcher doesn’t get ahead early and easily… then to move to off-speed. Mike just sat on it the whole time and Kimbrell stayed with the heat…
No doubt, grooved. Trout was stepping out of the box as the soon as ball hit the mitt. Big time whiff.
If he swung and missed the gamethread would have been FILLED with the usual cry of WHY DOESN’T HE LOOK AT A PITCH??!?!?!
I remember when we were 9-9.
And so many were complaining we were a .500 team.
Bring back the .500 Team!
And to cap off the night I’m gonna watch the Lakers choke away an 18 point lead.
I’m sure glad Drury didn’t PH for the 0 – 3 new guy
Trout has to swing. Being a statue is not what you want a baseball player to do.
Certainly not with the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth.
Obviously, not everyone is as good as the Orioles, but I’m starting to get the feeling almost everyone we play is going to look like a good team.
Even Oakland usually looks good against us.
Trouts on FIRE!
