12-2 Red Sox
The Angels ever so kindly let me get back to more important things in a reasonable timeframe on Sunday as they calmly handed the last game of the series to the Red Sox with nary a peep.
Chase Silseth was basically nails for 4 of his 5 innings, showing how important it was to him that the Red Sox leave Anaheim as soon as possible. Unfortunately a trio of solo shots given up to Hamilton (first of his career), Devers, and O’Neill in a really rough third inning where Silseth couldn’t hit his spots were the only hits he would give up. Cisnero and Suarez would combine to put the game away alongside any and all tension Angels fans might have stashed away safely immediately afterward though. Zuniga failed the bullpen’s amazing effort to put me to sleep in the middle of writing this by making me scroll back up to this paragraph and talk about the fact that we would have a position player pitching.
Miguel Sano, an early candidate for American League Cy Young, was throwing a deadly changeup and curve with incredible sinking movement against which Jarren Duran didn’t stand a chance. The reliever has made a bit of a name for himself with his incredible 0.00 ERA. His comeback has been incredible.

The three knocks would have been more than enough on their own, of course, as “avid fisherman” Tanner Houck made the Angels offense look more impotent than me after 8 consecutive sub-.500 seasons. A patented Trout solo shot and a smattering of baserunners were allowed. One of these was the first extra base hit of Tony Two-Outs’ entire career I’m pretty sure. You can fact check me on that probably.
The Rays are arriving tomorrow with second-best third-best pitcher on the Angels Tyler Anderson on the bump.
Silseth was put on the IL
Silseth will be going through a tough trial for a while as he gets zoned in. Anderson pitching for a summer plane ticket to spend August in the part of the country east of the Rockies.
Woooooo weee. That was some 2nd game against Balto style ugo baseball baby. It’s an awkward ass team. Probably gonna see a few more of these this year.
Silseth wasn’t good by any stretch, but he wasn’t nearly as bad as i thought having seen the score and then watched the game. Other than Detmers i don’t think we have any starters with the nerve to pitch well when our entire offense is butt cheeks though.
Welp, I’m still just hoping to be near .500 in week six. I’ll even take a few games under. It can happen…. it’d be a lot more fun if a couple more kids started playing well.
Are we Tipping our
waitressespitches?A young catcher, some pitchers still in “on the job training phase” of their careers, a “New Wise” pitching coach? Seems like on several occasions to start this season, our opponents appear to know what’s coming…… or is it just they suck that bad?
I’m tippin’ a few
Seems like it is a distinct possibility. That Boston lineup isn’t exactly murderers row. When Reese McGuire and Tyler O’neill are crushing you consistently you have to look long and hard at what is happening…
Glad at least Trout still has pop to HR, but so far with men on, or a close game, he struggles. See him batting .259, 32hr, 79 rbi this year, which is good, but not up to his standards. Pitching clearly not what many were hoping for. Bottom line, we should have signed free agents. I kept pushing for Snell, Monty, and Bauer. How good would a couple of those guys look now teamed with Detmers?Team hitting struggling. Schanuel needs to get sent down,, Moniak was a one yr wonder, Rendon still searching.
A lot of definitive statements there for 9 games.
I agree the trends aren’t great to start, but we really need a month+ of games before we give up on guys. Probably even longer for some of them.
Definitely would like to see Moniak and Rengifo every day, and a lot more Adell. They just have to ride it out and see what they have. those three guys have barely had 10 ABs.
We’re gonna need to see Hicks and Sano reach rock bottom first.
You mean Hicks still has room to go lower 🙃
40 games is my standard
Yeah, about the middle of May for me usually.
It really doesn’t change a lot even then-this is a bad team with a couple of gems like OHoppe and Detmers. Trout typically does not hit homers with guys on base because no one is out to get knocked in. Neto has not got to the point of believing he can hit. Drury will get caught up to his having a good season but get traded in July. Ditto Renny. Gone too will be Sandoval and Ward. Some team may need pitching and buy Sano.
Yep, Trout usually heats up with the weather.
If there’s good news; snagged my first $2 tickets of the year (much earlier than expected) for 4/10. Can’t believe I didn’t wait on the 4/24 one and had to pay $3/tickets 🤯
Eyeing the drone show Friday night game and as always Saturday night ones. Parking, btw, for Karl Strauss lots went up to $20 (at least for opening night). I’d recommend getting out to the park, even the NESN guys commented on how much they like going to it (or in Youk’s case playing in it, gave us props for stellar playoff atmospheres). It’ll never not be a good time. A fan of the pace of play and ability to walk the entire 2nd level to people watch, see what’s newer, etc.
Suarez blows. Perry needs to be fired just for keeping that sorry ass around here for so long.
Especially since there was (Alleged) interest for trade scenarios.
Actually pretty happy to have taken a game in this series. Could have easily been a sweep.
Ripley’s Believe It Or Not
“Mike Trout had 72 homeruns in 2024….and all of them were solo shots!!”
Is that a new Marvel movie?
Kind of hard to hit anything but a solo HR when the guys in front of you just aren’t getting on base :
Rendon : .094 BA, .147 OBP
Schanuel : .074 BA, .297 OBP
At least Nolan is drawing a couple of walks. Rendon has to go !!
Our run differential will be interesting this year.
Time for closed door meeting part deux??

Phils to close out the month… might as well enjoy our .500+ club while we cÅn
shit thats brutal
Since I predicted 65-97 I’m going to enjoy 5-4 for now
As are we all.
So, we swapped out our coaches and it looks like the problem might have been talent.
Same as it ever was.
The only thing not swapped out is Arte, Carpino, Kuhl.
Replacing Nevin with Wash was brilliant.
It was little league day.
The Angels should’ve just grabbed one if the kids to pitch.
Good grief. I am glad I was skiing today. Just saw the score, and that Sano pitched, and that indeed tells me all I need to know about the game.
I have no answers other than playing Rengifo every day why not play Adell. It’s pretty embarrassing when a position player out pitches your bullpen.
Sano will have 80 saves this season.
So 85+ wins for the year? I’ll take it
Can we please DFA Suarez after that performance?
I advocated for both Barria and Suarez to be jettisoned from the team.
Yes, Barria too…for about two years now.
Barria is gone. He sucked too.
But he’s here in spirit. Looking down on us…..thinking they are pitching like shit, why’d you get rid of me?
I’m so hardcore CtPG Guy that I’m still angry about him being on the team years after he’s gone. I can’t let Taylor Featherstone go either. He’s still on the team right? So mad. Lay at feet. So many baseball men are less real and more stupid. YAR.
If only we had this thing called a farm that had more talent.
Or signed Clevinger and pushed Silseth to long reliever.
Clevinger must have been too expensive.
We’ll have to watch Clevinger. He would have upped our douche quotient but I’m not sure he isn’t pissed jeans when it comes to pitching.
