LA Angels Monday News Crash: Moore Cabbage

The Angels have officially signed Matt Moore. They designated Trey Cabbage for assignment in the corresponding move.

Colt Keith just signed an extension with the Tigers for at least $28 Million and he hasn’t yet made his MLB debut. The Cubs signed right-hander Hector Neris to a one year deal for $9 Million. The Athletics have some kind of a deal with left-hander Alex Wood. The Royals signed second baseman Adam Frazier to a one year deal. Carlos Carrasco got a minor league deal with the Guardians.

Somebody stole a Jackie Robinson statue from in front of a youth baseball facility in Kansas. They left his feet behind.

Nightgale: The Yankees offered Blake Snell a 6-year deal worth $150M. Boras countered with requesting a 9-year deal worth $270 Million. Yankees were the only team to offer so far, and did not respond to Boras’ request.

He’s been worth that much money twice in his 8 year career. Actually, the Yankee offer is very fair and the most that I would pay him. It pays him what he was worth for the last 6 years based on his performance, the fact that he was only really good twice, and barely average at least 3 times. His past performance would predict that he will be very good for two of the years, average for 3, and better than average for 1. $150M is still generational money but he is not worth any more and the Yankees would still be betting that he is exceptional at least twice in 6 years and he’s 31.

So he won’t be on our opening day roster. Perry’s starting to remind me of the kid who keeps trading lunches with people every time he thinks he sees something he likes better. A number of the players he initially signed have already been released or claimed.

Gomez looks like the more intriguing player there.

I like a high contact, gaps oriented bat like Rivas if he’s great with the glove. But Gomez absolutely mashes.

With Gomez and Adell in the same OF we could have two true outcomes. Either a strikeout or a HR.

Gomez has two option years left, though. So he can be stashed in AAA.

Adell is out of options.

Very important consideration. I believe the Angels would love to have Adell start the year in the minor leagues and play every day while they sort out the rest of the players but they can’t without probably losing him.

The most likely scenario with Adell is he gets traded for about 5% of the return we could’ve landed a few years ago.

Kind of like the Brandon Wood scenario all over again.

And we suspect that if we trade him to Baltimore for a PTBNL, he’ll be an all-star this summer.

He was the #6 overall prospect in baseball in 2020. That’s the kind of prospect that lands established MLB level talent.

Now he’ll fetch a warm body.

I think we’re in a tight spot right now regarding Adell. It is hard to fathom losing him for nothing because of the promise and potential we’ve heard about since his signing, but unfortunately at some point that might be running out. We don’t have enough 40-man spots available to keep upgrading our team while keeping everyone else.

And obviously a way out would be to trade him and other(s) for something we really need, but unfortunately his trade value is at its lowest, making it a hard pill to swallow.

He should have learned from watching Michael Jordan try to play baseball. There are individuals who already play baseball that play other sports as well like Dave Winfield, Bo Jackson, or John Havlicek, but non baseball players that play other sports don’t translate. Hitting a baseball is more similar to golf than other types of sports. There are some fabulous athletes playing baseball but there are also some ugly bodies.

Drafting elite athletes and hoping to create baseball players all while pinching every penny on player development was a doomed strategy.

He’s cheap depth. Any outfielder that they sign though potentially pushes Jo Adell down in the pecking order. l actually would not be surprised to not see him on the team by opening day. They really need to play him or move him. I guess if he wins the MVP for someone else you can say “I told you so” and you would be right.

Not sure of Mike’s past (any personal experiences, did he kick your dog?). I can see he uses his real name, has a cute picture of himself and a young child for his profile, and the way I read his actual tweet (and link to commentary piece) I see how it can provoke thoughts from any side of the fanaticism spectrum. Which might be the entire point.
The way I read your comment, it feels like a biased, one way of thinking only. Maybe you’re just ‘joking’, hardy har har in that case.
Using I think/I feel statements, therapist worldwide would be proud! I brought up this very LAT commentary piece for this weekends links, but mentioning that particular place has evoked political-esque responses (a CtPG no-no?).
Maybe today can be a day of discussion, sharing of experiences, etc. Or maybe it can be a day of GIFs/memes (target audience millennials and gen z… seeing how they slay, show their swag for the Halos would be refreshing). As always, we shall see.

Jed York was (maybe still is) the typical silver spoon kid that is obsessed over proving ‘I did dis, see I eurned it’. His spat with Jim Harbaugh was over who got credit for the Niners turn around. Part of Jim’s schtick is to pit them (ownership/naysayers) against us as a motivational tool. I bring this up because some people can and do change. For some, it’s too late (LAT case). Not like the JomBoy’s of the world help out true journalistic intent. Met some of those guys and gal at ASG Colorado ‘21. They had identifying JomBoy jerseys. Guess what, they weren’t cool. Not to me, but to people who follow them and wanted pictures. They were fixated with trying to get a HR derby ball, they didn’t get one…. Guess who did, this guy, who played nice with Greg (known ball hawker) and ended up with 2 (Pete Alonso was one, have to look back at the other).

Another semi baseball related story is this one about the POS girlfriend of POS ex MLB pitcher Scott Erickson. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12971245/rebecca-grossman-scott-erickson-westlake-village-mark-iskander-jacob-iskander.html . She mowed down 2 kids in a cross walk in Westlake Village with their mother watching helplessly) while drinking and speeding. Her Lawyer is now claiming that she was following the former Angel nemesis and he actually hit the kids even though no-one saw his car just hers as the kids bounced off of it. And of course being an Ex Doyer he got off with a slap of the wrist.

That was a rough read. A bunch to unpack but ultimately those poor boys. Ascension Lutheran (where the went) is a great school, I hope they provide adults/children with all the resources they want/need… not just in the coming days but in months/years that follow. Too many people want to numb the pain, these kids will be no different as they age. Hoping they have appropriate outlets to vent/express.

Good morning to all, and no big signing this weekend to the surprise of some of us, but hey, why compete with the NFL for attention.

I’m Ok with the 49er’s winning but I would have also liked Detroit going up against the KC Chiefs-replay of a game a few years back where Goff and Mahone combined for over 100 points in a play trading touchdown in the 4th quarter.

Last season the Halos raised the price to park to 20 bucks-a steal compared to Sci-Fi Stadium’s 75 bucks for the Rams games.

Have a good time today and the Super Bowl is 14 days away. 😄 🏈

Angels2020Champs

There are a few alternatives to parking… SoFi you can go to a park/ride spot and be bused in. Was $10, now up $25+ for those spots. You get out a lot quicker than using the lots, where prices are $100. I have Chargers season tickets (worked closely with players when they were in SD, didn’t go to a game last year, gave them away). I go to 1 home, 1 road 49ers game a year with my kids. As for the Angels, I didn’t know parking went up from $10 to $20. They stopped allowing tailgating in the Big A parking lot (sometimes with big group purchases you can still go under the Big A) so I’ve been using alternatives the last few years.
SB is 14 days away, P/Cs report in 16… what are we going to do in the hours between?? Any book/show recommendations?

I’ve watched many sporting events from HB Dog Beach and slid over to Bolsa Chica State Beach for an evening bonfire. For SB, even my non sports loving family/friends have get togethers. At 3:30pm, I’ve never had trouble getting a tee time, weekend, holiday or not. It’s the 6am-8am times slots that people have a grip on that can be difficult to wedge your way in. The Jackie Robinson story sucks. I have an Angels game worn Jackie Robinson jersey that I proudly wear to Angels or other MLB/MiLB games that have allowed me to have some amazing conversations with people irl. As is the case of the world, have gotten the WTF are you wearing that looks/comments as well. Which is fine, opens the door for conversations.

Other outlets than B/R have moar on it.

Right before Black History Month, was just installed in 2021 in a park where 600 children play youth baseball. Cost $50,000 to commission. Wichita Metro Crime has a reward of $2500 for tips leading to arrests and $5000 for tips leading to the recovery of the statue. Salvage yards have been contacted and residents have been warned to let the police handle it, as opposed to pitchforks and torches. Which, you know, is just a suggestion.

Did I CtPG right?

I think ripping down statues of any kind has been a thing, especially covid era on. Wrong each time but doing it with JR’s is just shameful. I hope whoever did it is caught and that part of their punishment is they have to be caretakers (cleaning, hosting a yearly event, insert whatever you think might lead to positive change instead of just punishment) as consequence.
