Good morning Angels fans. Have some links or whatever.
Angels News
There is no Angels News. There was never going to be any Angels news. So have some old footage of that one time that David Hulse tried to kill the Angels’ dugout. ‘Member that?
Around Baseball
MLB players are getting bigger. To be fair, so are people in general.
Reds sign RP Frankie Montas for a 1/14M deal. Also an option for 2025.
It is the last thing the Reds will do. Most likely.
Cubs sign pitcher Colten Brewer. Finally signing someone.
This means that every team has finally done something this offseason. Update the list.
Speaking of list, here is the list of money each team has spent so far. Yeah, Angels mediocre even here.
Yankees still won’t have a City connect uniform. Most suck, TBH.
Latest update to the MLB HOF process. We should have the real results soon tm.
Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.
Breaking! Angels sign Adrian Beltre!
Crap, are we out on Wilson?
Can he pitch?
So cheap ass Arte is not the only Cheap Ass? https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/01/padres-announce-2024-coaching-staff-do-not-plan-to-hire-bench-coach.html
Padres are probably next going to go to cold cuts for player spreads ala 1980s Chicago Cubs. Yeah, that’s right, such a culinarily rich city went to cold cuts for the Cubs.
Nice. Should attend a rando game or two this year in SD. Such a great experience there.
Really, I have not been to a game in the new stadium.
Best stadium that I’ve personally been to.
Here’s something Arte signed off on that that will really blow your mind. No more Mayo Free Clinic or Dr Nick for the minor leaguers:

Carl Buddig for the win!
Next up, no ball or bat girls/boys/people. “Go get your own d@mn bat or foul balls.”
Why do chairs/seating need coaching?
I enjoyed the original version of this post
It was dripping with pretzel baconator oil.
Bench coaches only came into existence when Joe Torre appointed Popeye Zimmer in the mid-90’s. Joe would tale cat naps during the late night games and he would need a little nudging.
bench coaches were embolden by analytics
Giolito $38.5M for two years.
I just still don’t understand.
He will give you 180 innings so there is that. Sox are figuring that he cannot be any worse than 2023.
Cripes more affordable and better were available.
Someone got $810 mil the other day simply for buying some random $2 piece of paper!
LOL, random….with six numbers on it?
Most boring offseason in MLB that I can recall.
Ohtani was a foregone conclusion and apart from Yamamoto, it’s a tot bore.
Pacing the floor for UFC in a about 10 days.
Interesting sweet science….can you imagine getting in the ring with this guy?

As they say, power is the last thing to go.
I think death is the only thing to slow that power.
He was completely terrifying in his prime. I don’t know how they found guys willing to fight him.
From a strictly sweet science perspective, he was never a great “boxer” He was much of a “fighter”. Deontay Wilder is the closest comp,
but Tyson had a certain “it” factor and he came along at the right time and the best era for PPV entertainment.
Until he ran into a buzzsaw known as
Buster DouglasRobin GivensGood news in the owner rankings.
David Tepper, owner of the NFL Carolina Panthers officially leapfrogged Arte on the worst professional sports owner list. 😀
So Arte is no. 2 now?
LOL, nice.
💩👋
Awe come on, it was only a Tepper tantrum
He makes Japanese food. Tepper Yaki
And nifty 70s/80s plastic containers – Tepper Ware
When hes out at restaurants hes known to be a bad Tepper.
“Angels Linked To Trio Of High-Leverage Relievers To Help Fix Bullpen” (Baseball Essential)
We are so d@mned linked, I can hardly sit down…..
Jimmy Dean level of linkage!
Gio Urshela still available or is that a closed chapter?
Still available, although multiple teams have “kicked the tires” on him. I think the Blue Jays were interested but they got Kiner-Falefa instead.
Supposedly both NY teams are “in on him” as well.
He was cruising until that unfortunate and weird injury.
What is the long term prognosis for recovery from injuries like that? “Broken pelvis” does sound very serious.
Plesac needs better coaching than what we have to offer, but mostly he may be up to now uncoachable. Some players feel that they know better than the coaches and if they don’t catch what is being thrown at them, they go back to what they believe should work. I do not think he is a waste at 27 yrs old, but after all his failures why a 2-year deal and a 40-man roster spot? He was a 7th round pick I read somewhere; he does have a Arturo’s fortune behind him though. I hope it works out Ok for him.
They’re dumpster diving for a diamond in the rough. I’m OK with it.
Petrified 💩 is still 💩 not a diamond
Probably right, but it’s not big money so I don’t care.
If he pitches well, they can flip him at the deadline for an asset. Minimal risk/investment in relative terms.
I’m trying to remember the last time we flipped anyone for an asset. Jansen Junk?
What about Thor and Cap’n Caveman to Phi?
You calling Hunter Renfroe an Asset? 😂
I refer instead to us getting Junk and Peguero for Heaney
Well then I would go with the true wunderkind, Mr. Tucky D.
Yes, but petrified bird poop was worth its weight in gold at one time, before the Haber process was invented, so here’s hoping….
Regarding players (and people in general) getting bigger…
I re-ran the data and took out Trout’s weight, the modern day player data looks very different……..I’ll post it later.
Before or after he ate the jelly donut?
Maybe that’s why 2002 is once again outthinking this room again.
Ask Sinceuhnatty and Arazzona about going to more of a speed and run manufacturing game instead of the big hairy guys in that very old Bugs Bunny cartoon.
Toots, the only room you could possibly out think is Romper Room and even that is questionable.
Especially SS’s, maybe catchers will be the same size as jockeys by 2030
and hit .125 and then we won’t have to worry about this position anymore. Stick with 2002heaven and you’ll never think that Sandoval is a future 20 game winner or that Jered Walsh is better than Pete Alonso.
Who?
yeah, who is Jered Walsh and that 20 game winner again from Mission Viejo HS again……LOL!!!! What else are you good at BTW?
It’s spelled Jared.
Walsh is a free agent. Why are we even talking about him? Did he suddenly get fat?
Your Troll form is working overtime today I see. Find a site that will appreciate your attacking people somewhere else. It now does not matter what you know or do not know-you have worn out your welcome here. Your negativity alone is nauseating and your arm patting your back makes you even harder to take. Please leave and find a site more to your liking as you have offended to many here.
You mean like CB26 does………ALL THE TIME BTW, HE EVEN USES SLURS AND PERSONAL ATTACKS AGAINST ME ALL TIME. I can handle it however. Try not to get too personal dude, it’s only baseball. Why don’t you leave, how many negative comments that you made do want me to post, because I can do that you know unless you want try delete everything you ever posted. I never fire the first shot, ever I’m a counter puncher.

1. Detmers
2. Sandoval
3. Canning
4. Anderson
5. Silseth
6. Plesac
7. Suarez
8. Daniel
Bachman, Mederos, Kochanowicz??????
As CB26 points out regularly, we need MOAR PITCHING
I would put Silseth above Anderson, and probably above Canning.
He’s had one good run…….
Herman Robles and Dylan Bundy all over again. BTW Tony Gonsolin was terrible for the Dodgers in 2023 across town after a mirage 2022 season.
But Silseth has options so he’ll likely start in AAA as depth for the inevitable injury or three.
Everyone on that list has options left except for Anderson and Suarez.
Suarez is my #1 DFA and then release him. Waste of a roster spot.
Can’t argue, nor will I try.
We all like our chubby, overachieving Latin American pitchers, but he just doesn’t have good enough stuff in the end, does he?
Can anyone steal man on behalf of Suarez?
I think Anderson is a potential bounce back candidate this season. Not great. Probably not even good, but somewhere between his last year in blue & first in red.
“Jaime” Suarez? No clue.
History says the Angels experienced the real Ty Anderson last year, I would not expect that to change in 2024
Agreed. Of course the relative heath of the other staters would factor into this decision OR the coaches think he’s a top#3 starter when camp breaks.
Silseth will make the team and stuff-wise he is a No.3 on this team
CB26 is well is a……..NEVER MIND!!!
This is the same guy who said a year ago that Sandoval was one one of the best young SP’s in MLB with his 13 losses in tow. He also has no originality without his Mama Bear “Gitcho” telling him what to do.
Does anyone know how much money Plesac got?
Thought this was minor league contract at first, had to go back and re-read. I think it’s still pending a physical before details are released but I’ll guess 1 year $5 million with what’s been given out so far, his last Indians contract was 1 year just under $3 million.
as reported last night, Yamamoto’s deal with “them” is backloaded. His salary for 2024 is $5mil. It would be funny if Plesac makes as much….or more for the season!
Maybe his Mom? Or Uncle Dan?
From site favorite, has Angels linked to Bellinger and Snell.
https://www.espn.com/mlb/insider/story/_/id/39229320/mlb-2023-24-free-agency-update-predictions-trades-moves-jeff-passan-snell-bellinger
Personally, don’t want them as I am rooting for a stagnant year… tired of different lipstick colors on this pig. For the players sake, sign outside CA and keep more money, unless the workers compensation system is attractive (I know Arte likes insurance paying out salaries once his new shiny object gets an influx of season ticket holders, who remain on the hook for a team and organization that is a laughing-stalk of MLB). I wish Arte would do something dumb like panthers owner Dave Tepper so more heat would be put on him.
Oh wait, he’s a minority and lowered a beer price 20 years ago (12 oz Budweiser in one 500 concession). But then again, he would actually have to show up to a game (last time I saw him was 2022 20th WS reunion when Tim Salmon thanked him for hosting). GFY Arte 💩
Further context…
“The Los Angeles Angels have been rooting around on the periphery of the high-end market since seeing Ohtani leave for the Dodgers. Even with the $76 million they owe Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon, the Angels currently project a midlevel payroll — well below the top-10 Opening Day ranking they’ve carried for 20 consecutive years. Considering the bereft standing of their farm system, the Angels can’t rely on trades or internal promotions to keep them from avoiding fourth place in the American League West. Snell fits. So would Bellinger.”
I’m against shelling out the big FA contract(s) as much as the next person, but if a rebuild isn’t happening we can’t do much better than Snell and Belli to replace Sho.
Just sayin’
This is further context, your opinion, no quoting a link provided 🙂 Not trying to be a 🫏, genuinely appreciate your opinion (over espn or any other content providing site!).
I’m confused lol??
The quoted excerpt is from the Passan article you posted and my reply is commentary.
Unless my brain isn’t functioning well and I am misunderstanding, which is likely. No worries either way, fam!
Lol, probably me. Honestly no need for an explanation, I appreciate you posting… whatever it is. Snell and Bellinger have been discussed in past days here, espn just with their obligatory article a few days later.
Ah, gotcha gotcha! To be fair, Jeff Passan is THE source for all MLB.
So this is where I’ve gone wrong, I’ve always used Paul the Octopus as THE go to animate resource!!
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_the_Octopus
Agreed.
I’m frankly cool with a “regroup” year and they go for it again, at least we’ll have something to talk about and yes, Snelli & Belli are good to potentially great baseball players. High High Floors.
It seems like Montgomery is the FA SP with the least stable landing spot. Rangers can’t, Yankees haven’t, Mets and Phillies won’t – Maybe he should be our target?
(From Passan)
Athletic article in November that does a good job with TV contracts, spending. Angels aren’t included but we are one of the 11 teams affected.
https://theathletic.com/5046364/2023/11/09/mlb-tv-rights-deals-uncertain/?amp=1
I’m Ok to stand pat for 2023.
I missed this nugget a couple months ago about Adell training with Matt Holliday.
“Adell has been working out this offseason with longtime major league outfielder Matt Holliday, a six-time All-Star who works for Scott Boras, Adell’s agent.
Adell, 24, hit .207 with a 706 OPS in 17 games last season. He would have gotten an opportunity to play more, but he suffered an oblique injury just after he was recalled to the majors to replace Mike Trout in July.
Defense was considered Adell’s biggest issue a few years ago. He’s improved in the field, but he still has work to do offensively.
“I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed in my career, somebody improve defensively as much as he has over the last three years,” Minasian said. “I think there’s some strides to be made offensively that he knows, that he’s working on as we speak.”
https://www.ocregister.com/2023/11/08/angels-jo-adell-is-working-out-with-matt-holliday-in-preparation-for-key-season/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Matt’s son Jackson sure seems to have the potential to be something, so good on Jo for seeking out help that might translate to a good MLB a career. After 2022 (the only opening day roster he’s made, right) I stopped paying attention, but I only follow the big league team… it’s always been closer for me to attend and our woeful farm system/facilities have never made me want to jump out and take the family to check it out. Hopefully one day! Shout out to everyone that pays attention to the 40 man roster or minors so I don’t have to!
Either way, you gotta’ figure it’s his sink or finally swim year in OC.
Only one question matters. Can he plug the gaping hole in his bat and reduce the K rate from 40% to somewhere in high 20’s?
This will make all the difference in him batting .200 or .250. He has prodigious power potential and a plus athlete.
The 2024 motto should be, let the kids play. I would make sure Jo gets a real long look no matter the outcome.
This is why I don’t think we need someone like Bellinger, and would rather have a more versatile (IF also) DH option.
Use the bulk of our resources on pitching, and trust that Trout, Ward, Moniak, Adell. We still have Jordyn Adams and Alfonso Rivas, and have signed both Willie Calhoun and Marisnick already.
So you’re ok with having no second round draft pick ( Bellinger) and 3rd round draft pick (Snell) despite the horrible state of our farm system?
Or is it either Snell OR Bellinger? and hopefully the Comp Round pick makes up for the lost second rounder?
I said we don’t need Bellinger. And though I am fine getting Snell, I just said we should focus on pitching.
Did you mean to reply to my comment?
No I understand your position. I tend to agree with you on Bellinger . However, we need a middle of the line up bat and with Rendone and GORDO GOAT I think we are better off with a rotating DH to rest the weary. Bellinger , although his outfield defense is overrated, would allow us that luxury at the DH position but would be way more expensive for my blood when pitching should be the main focus.
I am curious about your thoughts on giving up another draft pick as we have the last 3 out 4 drafts. Do we need pitching worse than we need higher draft picks ?( or at least the slot money that accompanies it?.)
If we can avoid losing draft picks, that is always good. So, if we can sign Montgomery instead of Snell, I would prefer that.
That said, Snell (imho) is worth the potential draft pick, if he is who we can land.
After a top SP, I think we need help in the pen – and there I would hope we could get help without losing a draft pick.
As for the DH position, I would rather sign Turner or bring back Urshela if we are going to get anyone else. That way we could rotate both Trout (Adell) and Rendon (Rengifo/Turner/Urshela) through the DH spot as needed.
I don’t understand why Beltre avoid the steroid label. The Dodgers wouldn’t re-sign him for a decent contract after his big likely steroid-aided breakout year and he went to Seattle. Beltre was lost in the Pacific NW there until he went to other steroid cities and suddenly had his power back. He then played forever.
Connect the dots. Sudden power surge during PED era. Check. Varying power and results depending on weather in PED-infused cities. Check. Played unusually long without markedly declining performance. Check (see Clemens, Roger for this factor).
He’d seem to be as much as a steroid-infused guy as Manny or the like.
Halo Power Baby!!!
