LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Cold Glovers

Strangely enough, no Angels are among the Gold Glove finalists this year. Here is a blurb from Rhett Bollinger about each of the known Angels managerial candidates. This is new. It’s an article about the six worst fits for Shohei Ohtani as a free agent. Predictably, the Angels are on the list.

Hey! Davis Daniel made Pitcher of the Week in the Arizona Fall League. The writer mistakenly identified Daniel as a “D-Backs righty” even though the word “Angels” is on his chest in the picture at the top of the article. Oops! Later in the article he was correctly identified as being in the Angels organization.

Brandon Drury and Mike Trout both appear on this list of the Top 30 Potential Trade Chips. What do you think?

In MLBTR’s Podcast they discuss whether the Pirates might be interested in Patrick Sandoval at the 20 minute mark, as though the Angels should be getting rid of starting pitchers. Earlier they discuss Boston’s ongoing search for a General Manager and also discuss Kim Ng leaving the Marlins. They discuss Brandon Woodruff having shoulder surgery.

Andrew Friedman confirmed that Dave Roberts will return as Dodgers Manager in 2024.

Trevor May, Athletics pitcher, retired from baseball. His parting shot to owner John Fisher was, “Sell the team, dude,” and “Take mommy and daddy’s money somewhere else, dork.” He dropped at least one F bomb that Jomboy posted on X.

Sign Ohtani as player-manager, at least for this season. He clearly needs the intellectual stimulation of being both a pitcher and hitter – and since he has the year ‘off’ from pitching, let him manage.

Sick of hearing about Ohtani and the Dodgers. How many MVP’s taken from other teams do you need to win a WS? I actually think the best fit for Ohtani is the Diamondbacks. They have a strong young core of hitting and pitching he would fit into. It would put some balance in NL West, getting ridiculous for same team winning that division every year.

I’d take Ron Washington as infield coach all day every day.

I could live with him as Manager too – but not my first choice.

Yesterday, they talked about how Marcus Semien credited Wash with improving his game to an all star level when Wash was still coaching in Oakland

the fact Joe West is on the list shows just how silly the Hall of Fame is nowadays.

Sosh has more wins than anyone on the list and as many championships as everyone except Gaston, so he should make the list one day.

Maybe he didn’t yet because he hasn’t retired 😁🧐

Tanned rested and ready – Sosh for 2024 and ten more!

Minasian wants β€œpresence, respect and honesty” in a manager. From that standpoint, Buck Showalter stands out in the list. Ron β€œcokehead” Washington? Please no.

He must have believed Nevin possessed these attributes before promoting him to manager….

At this point, do the Angels really choose who they want to be manager?
Seems to me that any quality candidate that has multiple options would stay off us….It is a two-way street process, they need to want to be here.

Interestingly to see if Buck really claimed he would want to come here. I don’t trust any media reports, one idiot makes shit up and rest of the sheep repeat it, no credibility. Did anyone here see or hear a direct quote from him?

Didn’t do so well with the Mets. Are the Angels closer to being the Yanks he managed in the 50’s or are they closer to being the Mets early 60’s teams.

Sounds like attributes you’d want for an employee at hot dog on a stick.

Re Angels and Ohtani. Exactly right:

β€œIt’s quite simple, really. If Ohtani’s top priority is truly to win, Anaheim is one of the last places he should want to be in the years to come.β€œ

To me the question is whether Ohtani wants to “win” for the sake of winning irrespective of what kind of joy or pride he would get from said win or whether he wants the win to hold a special meaning to him.

If he wants to win for the sake of winning then he should just join whatever team wins the world series this year. This is the Kevin Durant route. And for those who aren’t aware of the public reception in that situation: KD has never gotten full credit for winning NBA championships with the Warriors (justifiably so in my opinion) and seems very unhappy years later as he tries to win a championship apart from the stacked Warriors team.

I personally believe Ohtani knows he can join a stacked team and win but is not sure whether that will fulfill him. He might choose to stay with the Angels for that reason and I wouldn’t fault him for that or say that he doesn’t care about winning.

But he has said publicly that he does care about winning and wants to play for a playoff contender.

They actually listed Ron Washington as a possible manager of The Angels? I mentioned that name over a week ago, but as a joke, the only way I see Washington as the new manager is if he were to do it for an 85k salary and Arte sees that number and forces Perry to hire him.
