The Angels play October Baseball! Well, in the regular season that is. It is October first, the beginning of Spooky Month, and it is the final game of the regular season. Not a good season for Angels fans, not since August, but a memorable one, I guess. And on the final game, they decided to win despite it being against the team’s best interest not to. Oh well.
Carson Fulmer made the spot start, going 5 shutout innings, allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks while getting 3 strikeouts. Not bad, although, not good if you want to tank.
Highlighted Recap
Drury continued to not get the memo and hit a home run in the first inning.
Grichuk did not listen either as he hit one as well in the 3rd.
The A’s gift the Angels a run in the 4th, even though they have locked in the worst record in MLB this season.
But really it didn’t matter since Drury continued to not listen as he hit yet another home run.
Escobar singled in another run, which made it very like the Angels would win this thing.
A wild pitch in the 6th meant a 7th run.
The A’s scored in the 7th.
Oh and the Angels gave up one last home run just for good measure.
The game should have ended like that but an error and a hit meant it did not. 7-3 Angels in the 9th.
Angels win and finish the season at 73-89. Who had that in the preseason predictions? I know I didn’t.
Upcoming
No more Angels baseball until next year. Root for a good team in the playoffs I guess. O’s, Rays, Jays, Twins, Rangers, and Trash-o’s in the AL and Dodgers, Sneks, Brewers, Braves, Phillies, and Marlins in the NL. Other than that, look up top draft prospects or something. 6th best odds in the lottery. Angels will get top 9 at least due to how the balls fall. I think. Lottery is stupid.
Congrats to Troy Glaus!: Sho had 44 HRs on Aug 23rd; the Angels season record is Troy’s 47. Ohtani never hit another after 8/23. A month earlier it looked like Shohei would reach the mid-50s, easily. Troy got lucky with this one.
The way things look, Glaus’s Angels record will stand for quite some time.
Was at todays game, good way to end season. I’m being positive about the team being ok next year. Young hitters and pitchers hopefully step up, Trout, Rendon contribute, Drury stay the same, resign Moose and Grichuk for depth. Team could be competitive, but unfortunately don’t expect them going anywhere. AL west just has too many teams that are stacked with talent.
I don’t understand why so many of you people even follow the Angels. If you deplore their approach and results, why follow another team and stop following this blog? Though seasons happen, runs of bad years happen. The Dodgers are right up the road and win all the time. Follow them and quit whining on this blog.
I’ll see you up the road at the Latrine then.
Don’t wait for me. I’ll be right behind you
it’s hard to switch allegiances. i don’t know how someone can do it. maybe the uber-casual fan, but we fanatics have no choice. i tried to change my football fanness during the whole kaepernic (sp?) fiasco, (im more ‘woke’ to that whole thing he was trying to shine a light on now), to the Raiders. i ignored the Niners, but couldn’t really get that deep into the whole Raider Nation thing. then the Niners were on a superbowl run and i thought, fuck the whole principles thing, im getting back on the wagon. after 50+ years of fandom, there is no changing-ride or die! oh, and fuck the dodgers
Because we aren’t bandwagoners and want whats best for the team, plus we are also customers. What’s with the nihilism?
I’ve followed the team since the creation and have seen many bad years. I enjoyed this year despite the catastrophic injuries. Young players, bounce-back players, surprises, some good wins, the late-season attempt to rebuild the team, and Otahni. My wife and I watch almost every game but turn them off when things get ugly and I look online to see the final score. We have for decades. This was not an abysmal season. Somewhat tragic perhaps, but not abysmal.

>I enjoyed this year despite the catastrophic injuries.<
Really now. Really. RILLY? How do you “enjoy this year”? Is it the not-taking-Grba, whatever TF that is? Tell me your secret, because by Sept 5th I couldn’t take another game.
Sooo glad this season is over. “Make it stop!,” I kept saying to myself. And I realized I’d have to wait ’til 10/1, which by early Sept I started thinking of as Termination Day.
Fire everyone. Arte? Sell the damned team. Yadda yadda? That too…
Sho gone for nuthin’. Trout probably wants out and who could possibly blame him? I can’t. High draft picks? Will be traded for some aging “star” who immediately suffers a catastrophic injury making a left turn on the way to putt-putt golf.
And, to answer your Q: No, I’m a lifer. I cannot root for any other damned team. Should I TRY Grba? Is it a hallucinogenic?
You don’t know what Don’t Take Grba means? Eli Grba – original angel? Are you ok, man????
https://sabr.org/gamesproj/game/april-11-1961-eli-grba-wins-first-game-in-angels-franchise-history/
I call bullshit! This is fake news!
Complete game? Thats 9 innings! We go 4 or 5 now and we like it!
I agree with most of your comment, but you lost me at “turn them off” … huffing like you’re some diehard ABOVE everyone else. A lot of us here who gripe watch every second – even the bad stuff. I’m pretty amazed at how consistent people can be … even in their negativity.
Been a rough stretch, Grba … but we’ll be better off someday. The sun came up today and it’s nice and cool outside. First “crisp” fall morning I’ve felt in quite some time.
Nah.
I follow this team because all the losing keeps me humble and grounded.
So long everyone, thanks for the chuckles during a tough year. (Photo from Tiger stadium 2022)
Badass Ippei jersey!
And a Rengifo jersey too!
Thanks for the work this year ctpg staff. Appreciate the fun back and forth to the members here.
What I want to see to become invested again:
1. A new owner;
2. A completely new Organizational approach; with major investments in technology, scouting and player development;
3. No Long term free agent signings;
4. A Rendon DFA or retirement;
5. A season of playing young motivated players.
Number 2 yes! Would like Warriors owner, Joe Lacob to buy the team. No doubt he would implement number 2.
Except he’s not going to, and said so.
Why does everyone assume some Big Daddy/Mama/Conglomerate is going to buy the Angels, and not someone like Jackie “small market” Autry, or even worse, Bob Nutting and turn it into a profit center? It would be nice, but Arte was bidding against whom? Yeah, Frank McCourt who outbid him, but Arte could write a check to Disney immediately, so they took his bid.
Arte tried buying the Dbacks but Colangelo was like “how bout no?”
He should have let Arte just buy it
Arte was part owner in the D backs and got into it with Colangelo because he didnt like deferred contracts. When Arte couldn’t buy controlling interest he bought the Angels.
That’s why they should have let them buy the controlling interest so he couldn’t own the Angels
Unfortunately Disney likely would have turned to Shoestring McCourt, and that didn’t end well up the road. And no way The Walter Group buys the Angels out of McCourt’s inevitable BK, after looting the team.
Though McCourt wouldn’t have owned the team for long, remember what caused him to sell the team? Could have happened here as well, but, hindsight 20/20
Ok so let me get this straight .
You don’t call this invested?
I’ve been much more invested- believe me 😂
FIRE EVERYONE!!!!
Including Arte
At least the 3rd base coach.
Didn’t someone have a Disney movie-like fantasy that Ohtani would step out of the dugout to “thank” the fans? Did that happen?
Happy to see our nightmare end, unhappy to know it’s many dozens of days before the calendar turns to Spring, and hope springs eternal. CTPG is head and shoulders above any other fan or “official” site with the collective knowledge, biases, hurt feelings, love, and hate amongst the features that keep us all coming back.
How long til pitchers and catchers report?
And Kiyo, thank you again for your translations of the Japanese media inquisitions after an Ohtani start. I think it gave us all more insight into the player, and the man, and was appreciated. As perhaps the most famous person in Japan, it pointedly reminded all of us smoking the hopium that Ohtani lives in a daily media circus, so all that babble about him finding a bigger media market distasteful seems moot.
What a fun season, as DD said so well, CTPG made it much more fun!
Didn’t go to a single Halo game this year, and stopped watching them on TV. Only game I attended was D-Backs/Padres in Phoenix for the 25th anniversary of the team. That was actually fun, something Angels ball rarely was this season. If Arte sells, I can see getting enthused again. Never seen an organization in more dire need of a new broom.
Left my loser hat at home and we won. Nice.
Had a fun season. Love this site – all of it!
Thanks everyone!
Sorry I can’t relate to the joy. This has been the worst year as a fan in my 33 following this team. I had a chance to make my son an Angels fan as he started baseball and instead he went full Dodgers (why wouldn’t he). This team has pathetic, so fuck you Rendon for tanking the season on Opening Day, the self-proclaimed “b***” Loup, Sam Blum and his negative constant energy, Rodger Lodge, Matt Wise and his horrendous “coaching” , Phil Nevin for having no spine, the worst athletic trainer in all of pro sports , and of course Arte Moreno who is an embarrassment in many ways beyond the baseball aspects of this organization. Some of this is on Perry as well who gave us real winners like Giolito, Tepera, Phillips, Davidson, Loup Velasquez. At this point I’ll consider it a win if the Angels don’t get relocated in the next five years.
Well, that caps off another disappointing season of Angels baseball. My prediction for this season couldn’t have been farther off from what transpired. Oh well, I plan on my first spring training trip with my son in February.
ST is a blast. Best time of the year.
The Angels are 0-0.
That’s the magic I’m hoping for. My kids team lost their game today against Dana Point (First game with this team), he hit a sac fly for the first RBI of the game and made some plays in left field.
Stick a fork in 2023. The best move that can happen during the offseason for Arte to sell the team. As long as he’s the owner, no qualified GM, baseball executive or field manager (much less player) will want to sign on to this train wreck of a team.
Arte must go. Until he does, the Angels will be a laughing stock of baseball.
He’s Frank McCourt 2.0.
Sell Arte. Just. Fucking. Sell.
Take the billions in profits and enjoy the rest of your life. Just get the hell out of baseball.
Gotta love October Baseball!!!
Angels undefeated in
Well there goes my dream of hiring Craig Counsell as our manager next year. Stearns already has his flight booked to the big Crapple.
https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/buck-showalter-will-not-return-as-mets-manager-in-2024.html
So Showalter and Eppler to Anaheim.
Bill Buck 2024!
Good riddance.to this season.
But thanks to all the editors and contributors that again made it somewhat bearable.
Thanks to the entire CtPG staff for another great experience! You made a difficult season enjoyable – thank you all.
To my fellow fans posting on the site, thank you as well. Whether we disagreed or agreed, it was a good experience. Don’t ever lose the sense of humor!
I’m going to finally plan a pilgrimage to spring training. Hope to see some of the crew there. all the best!
Kevin
Right back at you. And a huge shout out to the best staff on the best fan site in all of sports fandom.
But Who’s Kevin? I thought your name was Bluto.
Bluto’s middle name 😃
Maybe we should all give our real names? Hi, I’m Ay-Ay Ron.

Ah, Clem
thanks JHW! You and the rest of the staff have made it …well, a semi-enjoyable season. We had some good times, didn’t we? And at least we weren’t worse than last year!
Take care everyone here at CtPG, thank you to the Crew who bring it here for us, thank you to those both old and new posters for making it worth showing up, lord knows that the Angels winning isn’t what brings us here.
Post season next, so that means we got another month of Baseball, hope you don’t forget to show up here. GPB out for today.
Yes..It’s been fun ladies and gentlemen. Following a bad baseball team with a bad owner is hard and full of disappointment, and it’s easy to completely disengage. But coming here everyday makes it fun and entertaining. Personally, haven’t had this much enjoyment following such a crappy team in my entire life. Long live the of “TANK 2023”! Thank you to all involved in keeping this site up and running!
Free Loup, Herget and Diaz

Free everyone at the free clinic providing this team with F’ing world class healthcare
Free Arte from this burden, sell the team. Give someone else a chance to take over this cursed franchise
See everyone next year. Same time. Same place. Same shitty baseball.

Chris Rodriguez is no longer throwing. He had another setback, Phil Nevin said.
Rodriguez pitched in a minor league game for the first time in more than 2 years earlier this month. Unclear what his path forward is now.
