Morning Angels fans. Have some links I guess.
Angels News
So the Angels lost. Again. Predictably. Which means that there is a chance at the number 1 pick because lottery. Yay…
Oh and the game today will be available in the Metaverse? People still care about that?! WHY?!
Well, Ohtani has has his surgery now. It is not TJ but he will not pitch until 2025.
Around Baseball
Adam Wainwright became the 5th active pitcher yo get 200 wins. Since no one is getting 300 anymore, this is a huge deal.
Season is almost over and injuries are still coming. Kikuchi, Arraez, Lewis, Cobb, all on contenders too, with no time to get any help.
Matt Moore git claimed by the Marlins. Wait, what? Apparently Cleveland is giving up too.
Under 15 Women’s Softball championship is happening in Japan in October. Something to watch in October…
All the Sports Leagues are trying to stop a new law that would lift airspace restrictions near stadiums during games. The argument that it would put fans at risk similar to what happened in Baltimore decades ago.
The Rays will be getting a new stadium. They have photos and everything.
Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.
Silver lining…. I am not the least bit worried about Ohtani’s ability to pitch and hit many years into the future anymore.

Is it possible Ohtani likes the org, has a fondness for Arty and appreciates the low-fanfare manner in which they’ve handled his exit this season? One can dream…
Thank you John Henry. Links and a Postgame on the same day is a ton of work.
Why is Loup still on the roster, and still being brought in to lose games. Luop=Lose. The two words can be used interchangeably.
Why win?
Well because you know losing is a disease.

He’s our most reliable reliever. Why get rid of him?
Maybe he was kept on just in case the Angels wanted a chance at the #1 pick.
I like that stadiumpreview. Hope I can get there some day.
The Rays and A’s will get a new stadium……the Angels are the only remaining team in MLB without plans to play in a new (or a major redo) home, or play in a newer generation, classic traditional stadium….and many of those have had recent refurbishments.
But we could have worse I guess, The Big A is still in decent shape for a stadium built almost sixty years ago. But, it’s outdated and in need of major upgrades or to be replaced. We still have an old TV antenna on the roof and an old dirty couch on the front porch. Thanks for nothing, sArt.
I would prefer new players over a new stadium.
New ownership please.
Even better.
Dodger Stadium is hardly new or majorly redone… also Wrigley/Fenway?
Doyer stadium has gone through $10’s of millions in renovations over the years, always upgrading the stadium, just upgraded the outfield pavilion last off season…..its still a latrine, and built on top of a hill, after bulldozing people’s homes, but that’s besides the point.
Same with Fenway and Wrigley. Both stadiums have had big upgrades. Press box/fan suites at Fenway with the obvious Green Monster seats. Wrigley basically redid the bleachers seats recently. Besides, all three are on the classic lists, you leave the bones alone.
Angel Stadium needs a major upgrade.
Gotta admit doyers nailed it with slapping lipstick on that pig
Not to let actual facts get in the way of a good hate, the homes were bulldozed long before Walt O’Malley took his helicopter ride. The Elysian Park Heights Public Housing Project, designed by Richard Neutra no less, cleared most of Elysian Park in 1950-1952. When Norris Paulson was elected in 1952, he convinced the City Council that no Commie public housing project should be there (too many of “those people”, you know), so the project was tabled.
Cheese it for Chase?

Jac Caglianone, please
Why would they have The Angels picking an outfielder? The teams glaring hole is pitching!!!
I like the guy in green. He’s toolsy. With upside. But strikes out a lot, and is a bad base runner.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 What the hell is even going on there?
because you don’t draft for immediate need in the MLB.
A “toolsy” outfielder……been there, done that, the re-runs are as bad as the original.
this is from July. We’re listed as having the 13th pick. Way out of date! As for the toolsy OF, that’s just because the writer hasn’t paid attention since we drafted Jo.
If we go full rebuild I actually want them to consider Bryce Rainer. I’m not a fan of high school kids, but he looks pretty good. It may sound like a dipshit “har harte no scouts so cheap” donkey honk thing to say but I also would feel comfortable picking him cause he’s from Simi. I’d imagine they actually got to scout the crap out of him if they want to.
I actually want Hagan Smith, and MLB has him going after our pick… to the Reds, who already draft the pitchers I want in real life, so thanks MLB.
I’d take Braden Montgomery over the kid MLB has us picking.
Logan O’Hoppe has 11 HRs in 44 games = 43 HR pace over 162 games.
Mike Trout has 18 HRs in 82 games =
36 HR pace over 162 games
Brandon Drury has 21 HRs in 114 games =
30 HR pace over 162 games.
Mickey Moniak has 13 HRs in 83 games =
25 HR pace over 162 games.
Taylor Ward has 14 HRs in 97 games =
23 HR pace over 162 games.
Luis Rengifo 16 HRs in 126 games =
21 HR pace over 162 games.
Zach Neto has 9 HRs in 74 games =
20 HR pace over 162 games.
O’Hoppe has a realistic chance to blossom into the premier HR-hitting catcher in the game.
1B Schanuel
CF Trout
C O’Hoppe
3B Rengifo
2B Drury
RF Ward
LF Moniak
SS Neto
DH Rendone
bench: Adell, Thaiss, ____ , ____
Fun lineup.
You screwed the pooch by adding Rendon’s name.
I led with my head, not heart.
The moment Jeff Passan reports “The Los Angeles Angels have informed Anthony Rendone of his unconditional release” we can throw Adell in there 😇.
Totally.
I was just wondering about projected stats.
Thanks Pineapple…you made it GA for me!
Not unless he develops better plate discipline.
Sub .200 OBP catchers don’t last long in this league unless you are elite defensively.
Let me remind you there was only one Premium. (Although it would appear O’Hoppe’s got throwing to the first base down on attempted steals.)
I assume you mean sub .300 OBP. Anyways…
Logan is 23 years old, .364 OBP in 1,214 minor league PAs, and 174 total MLB PAs.
And “Premium” stayed in the league twice as long as his catcher partner Napoli. Some things just boggle the mind.
Assuming Ohtani does not return, Arte will replace him with someone else to sell jerseys, guaranteed. I like this line up although I would replace Moniak and Redone with new players. Moniak provides excellent outfield depth but has weaknesses that unless corrected, prevent him from being an everyday player. Redone can be the back up 3B as right now Rengifo is a better player. You have a decent and inexpensive bench with Thaiss, Moniak and Adell, Soto, Paris, and Walsh. Rengifo replaces fletcher as the Swiss Army knife. He can move to 2B or SS if needed and Redone can play 3B. Soto and Paris can play both SS and 2B. Walsh backs up 1B. You need a new outfielder and a DH. Players to hit behind Trout in the 3 and 4 spots. then spend money on pitching. This team has excellent potential assuming we get some people in place who know what they are doing, like a new manager and entire new coaching staff.
Neither Paris nor Soto are big league ready, and Walsh won’t be in the organization next season.
At worst, Mickey should be in a platoon role vs RHP. Adell would complete the platoon playing vs LHP.
My biggest fear is King Arte going out and committing another $200-300 million on 1-2 terrible contracts if/when Ohtani’s departs.
Paris and Soto would be an acceptable 3rd option after the starter and Rengifo but you can also use Stefanic. Without Walsh you need to find another 1B, and I would rather have Walsh than Cabbage. Having a Moniak/Adell platoon is throwing in the towel. Depends on what the goal is.I was approaching with goal of trying to win. There is no realistic way to prepare or plan for the position player injuries the Angels had this year.
“Depends on what the goal is. I was approaching with goal of trying to win”
I don’t intend to be an asshole by saying the following, but no team trying to win would consider Walsh, Paris, Soto, Stefanic, Fletcher, or Cabbage on their 2024 opening day roster.
My approach to next season is to give our young players full-time roles and let them develop — O’Hoppe, Neto, Schanuel, Moniak, Adell, etc.
I don’t disagree but there is only so much money even if you’re spending so if you don’t use some of those players they will need to be replaced. Most of the young players are on the field now so next year may look a lot like August and September of this year. I am not critical of doing as you say and then in 25 moving forward but I believe there is zero chance of that happening under either current or new ownership. I am not ready to give up entirely on Walsh, Soto, or Paris yet. That is not to say that you might be absolutely correct in your assessment of them. I just don’t see tanking happening in this market. I don’t know what the future holds at this point. Your guess and proposed path forward is as good as anyones.
Yep, Arte will have a big press announcement/welcome to the team press conference, public invited, to showcase the big offseason acquisition, …. drum roll ………. Welcome to The Angels, your new big name power bat ……… Giancarlo Stanton !!!! And yes, Arte took on his entire contract along with trading them O’Hoppe, and 3 minor league pitchers because, trAdition.
Why would anybody sign with the Angels?
Shohei isn’t going to do it for half a billion dollars, so don’t say money.
What I see mostly is a team that has too many injuries.
We can with certainty cut all those predictions in 1/2. Because of INJURIES………trAdition. That’s if we are lucky.
that 2023 lineup doesnt get you excited for angels baseball?
NAR! YOU NAH BLAME DUH INJARIES! AH WANA SUM BUTTS! AHR SAH ANGER! RENDON ASSHOLE BROKEN BONE! HEE DEE DIT OHN PORPOIS! ARTE CHEAP MILK CRACKEM BONES! HEEZ TO ANSWER TO ME DUH FANS!
So you are counting on Rendon for what, 30 games a season?
I don’t count on Rendone for anything other than reliable disappointment. Up to me, he’d be released by now.
Sadly, the $38 million man will remain a starter for as long as he’s healthy, which you have astutely pointed out will be around 30 games.
By the time the season is over in a few weeks, he will have averaged roughly 45 games a year.
The starting rotation right now is: Sandoval, Canning, Anderson, Detmers, and Silseth
The bullpen is Joyce, Soriano, Estevez, Bachman, Suarez? and others?
The question is whether the Angels want to try to add some pitching pieces and depth pieces on offense and think that they can compete next year. Or whether during the offseason, they move Drury, Estevez, or even Trout for prospects thinking that the team cannot compete next year.
That is exactly the question.
That will depend on ownership. If it’s Arte, he will unrealistically believe the team can compete.
Which FA pitchers should we sign?
I mean sure, those “over 162” projections never actually work out. But still, if all those guys hit like that over 150 games each and fall 10% lower in production I’ll take it.
Plus Rendon’s gonna be back. So there’s that.
Same old Loup, but for some reason, I like him more than I used to.
Stockholm Syndrome.
Actually I think it’s because losses are our friends these days
