Orioles Defeat Ohtani-less Angels 6-3

What’s left of the 2023 Angels came back home from a listless sweep in Oakland to face the best in the A.L. Baltimore Orioles. The game went about as expected, especially with the lineup missing Shohei because of tweaking his oblique on a batting practice swing before the game.

Grayson Rodriguez pitched 6 innings for the Birds, allowing only 2 runs on 7 hits. The Halos actually got an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Moniak double.

Baltimore scored 3 runs in the next half inning off Angel hurler Kenny Rosenberg, thanks to RBI’s from Hays, Mountcastle, and Hicks.

Rosenberg held the Orioles scoreless in the other 5 innings he pitched, but the deficit was out of reach after Gerardo Reyes gave up 3 runs of his own in his one inning, the 7th. This was due to a 3-run homer from young star Gunnar Henderson.

The only other runs in the game were from the home team, by way of a Grichuk homer in the 4th….

…and a Drury homer in the 8th…

…but as has been the custom lately, too little too late, as the Angels took yet another one in the loss column by the score of 6-3. Ho hum….

24 games until this season comes to an end for the Angels. There is no reason for Sho, Neto or Trout to come back They should focus on getting better.

As for next year, does anyone really believe the Angels have a chance to keep Sho? For what reason would he stay? Most have said it’s not about the money for him and his focus is playing in the post season on the biggest stage. He has to feel playoffs are not a realistic thing for the Angels, doesn’t he?!

Reasons for Sho to stay:

Relatively comfortable living conditionsTeam that allows him to take his time as needed as opposed to one that actually needs to win games.Close to Ippei’s Dad’s restaurant. No pressure to winGreat beat writers who write biographies about himKiyochan is part of our communitySho’s mom likes CtPG

In my Nov 2022 IIWPM, I traded with the Orioles for Mountcastle (1B) and Hays (OF). Orioles probably would not have parted with those guys but they are part of the young core group that make the O’s exciting.

Nice effort by Giolito today. No loss there. I’m still not sure why Perry thought he was good originally.

The tank machine is rolling otherwise. Maybe a top 7 draft pick is attainable. As to actual games, Angels might be worst team in MLB right now. It’s a shame.

Draft lotto should be the goal. Then anything can happen. Go for a top-3 pick!

Giving up two top prospects to the White Sox for Giolito and Lopez was highway robbery.

I went back to check my preseason prediction and I saw that it was 92W – 70L but what I really meant was 70W – 92L. Damn fat finger.

Who’ll be shut down first? Officially, that is? Trout or Ohtani?

Great wager. Wouldn’t rule out a tie. All in one Friday press-release.

Blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blahBlah blah
Both players are done for the year.

I guess you could bet on who’s named first.

I can’t wait to root for wherever Sho ends up.

Let’s go Dodgers.

As much as I love Sho, I will never root for the Dodgers if he signs with them. If he ends up with Seattle I may become an M’s fan since I already live in the PNW….at least until Arte sells the team.

We all have our feelings towards teams, because you’d never catch me rooting for the Mariners lmao.

Luckily, I think it’s safe to say he’s not going to Seattle.

They’re just slightly less dysfunctional than the Angels are.

I agree with you – I hate the Mariners too but they’ve been winning for the past few seasons which is more than what our Angels have been doing. And if Ohtani leaves it’s gonna be difficult to stay an Angels fan as long as Arte is still the owner but I’m a glutton for punishment so I’ll probably stick with them. At least we’d still have Trout and Rendon!

Saw the replay of how Sho sustained his oblique strain. It looked like his right foot slipped and he tried to stop his swing. He was hitting some bombs out there before he had what looked like a freak accident. Curse?

Since I am too cheap to subscribe to the Athletics ($1 per month for 12 months for 1st year), which supposedly have whole transcript of Nez Balelo 24 minute press conference, I have to rely on reading Japanese newspaper.

Nez prefaced the press conference by explaining why he held press conference today saying that he wanted to calm down especially Japanese fans concerns and anxiety and express his gratitude for overwhelming amount of love from his fans. So, Sho doing on field BP was probably an attempt to show the world that he is ok. Today, that backfired.

That’s what I saw when Shohei was scratched from today’s Lineup (The video showing him hurt). If I’m Ippei or his Agent I’m telling Shohei to shut it down for the rest of the Season. There’s no reason to pick up anymore injuries if he’s able to come back before the Season is over.

Shohei sometimes does Batting Practice on the field. In my opinion I think he just wanted to get in a rhythm again because he wasn’t getting many pitches to hit. Sucks that he got hurt in the process, but it’s time to shut it down for him.
