Jaime Barria is back in the rotation for the first time since August 6th 2022 against the Mariners. Out of the 3 options for the 6th man now that Suarez is injured, Barria has been my choice. His pitching makeup is more stable for a short starter than as a long reliever due to a more reliable way of pitching even if the raw talent isn’t as good.
Well, he proved me ___ going 5 innings, giving up no runs on 2 hits, striking out 6 and walking none. All on 64 pitches! Amazing! He could have gone even more, but he was pulled after 5 to go out on a high note.
Orrrrrrr… Phil is an idiot since LOUP WAS PUT IN! LOUP! WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU PUT LOUP IN A 1 RUN GAME!?! Anyway Loup blew it and it is all Phil’s fault. Or Perry, or Arte, or maybe it was Andrew all along. Point being, WHY IS LOUP STILL ON THE TEAM?!
Anyway, this ended up being a pitching duel, where one swing of the bat could decide it all.
Highlighted Recap
Angels get the first run of the game! On a bunt! Well, an accidental swinging bunt, but still!
Barria was done after 5, but only because Phil made him leave after 5 despite being under 70 pitches. For who? Loup of course! He promptly blew it.
Thankfully, Phil also pulled him as fast as he could, and Devenski was able to limit it to just a tied game.
In the 8th, as this pitching duel was making hits a premium, M-I-C-K-E-Y hit one out to give the Angels the lead again!
Silseth went 2 innings to get the win and shut the Red Sox down in their smug Boston-y faces.
Upcoming
More Boston in Anaheim tomorrow. Ew. At least it won’t be as bad on a Tuesday as it would on a weekend. At 26-23, the Angels win the first game against Boston! LTBU!
Moniak is going to come back, but what if he figured out that #1 overall potential? (Even if it’s platooning.) He’s sure fun to watch.
In N Out needs a new burger that’s nothing but meat and name it the Loop burger.
Mickey Moniak is a Hall of Famer!
3 weeks from now….
DFA Mickey Moniak!
I think it was great we won, and congratulate the pitching.
But Cy pitcher with his 5 ERA struck out 8 of our guys and we barely won.
This could have easily been another one of those games where we’re wondering what is wrong with our offense.
I hasten to add to your list of good pitching solid defense with no errors with Neto making amazing play right after the double that Loup gave up and Walsh making a diving play to catch a liner.
I thought the offensive strategy should have been patient instead of aggressive from the first pitch. I saw way too many swing and miss for pitches out of the strike zone, especially from Trout, Ohtani, and Renfroe.
the only thing wrong w the offense is mike trout looking like an elder millennial but we got MICKEY to make us forget about that guy, amirite.
Debbie Downer: The Astros were 19-18 ten games ago. Today, 28-19. Did you wave as the Division Flag just flew by?
I was watching today’s Houston vs Milwaukie game. Alvarez hit two dingers, including grand slam. Absolutely demolished Brewers. Athletics came close to stealing actually two games from Asstros past weekend, but A’s turned into Bad News Bears in last inning of the 2 games that they could have won. Asstros are like cockroaches. You cannot kill them enough. We really need to take at least 3 games for the upcoming 4 game series in June.
At least, Texas lost today. Pirates almost lost but persevered.
We knew it would be a challenge, just need to begin winning series
lol @ division flag
I’m trying not to get too excited about Moniak but he’s making it really hard
His Kryptonite is LHP. McKenzie is 1 measly single in 24 ABs & 12 Ks against left handers so hes got a ways to go before we annoint him King.
Ummm…lol
The bullpen is getting there. Loup needs to go away.
I think thats been established here . the question is when?
we went from the blowPEN to getting there in 3-games?
3 games is an eternity for this band of Zealots.
08/02/22. Los Angeles Angels traded RHP Noah Syndergaard to Philadelphia Phillies for CF Mickey Moniak and RF Jadiel Sanchez.
A DATE WHICH WILL LIVE IN INFAMY
I wonder if the donkeys in Philly are all “Seee haw! I said that weeeee haw can’t develop players cause our coacheee haw staff is a joke! Look how Moneeeehaw ak is hitting for them now!”
After what? Less than two weeks of good? I love me some Mickey, but I love him in a .260 BA with 15HR and good defense kind of way. If he’s better than that? Great.
Im sure thats 2008Heaven’s take.
So Logan is the hat man now. Cool beans.
We won the first game. Oh no. Donkey no smile no no.
We got 5 hit…. and we won. This is a good thing. Like ground up hominy boiled and then slathered in butter. Delicious.
Loup? No? OK, see you later bro. Drink all the beers you want now. You’ve had plenty of chance and you still pitch like a bitch.
No walks for Birria…. delicious. Solid start for our “last resort”. Plus defense didn’t boot it.
Worst 26-23 team ever. So much joke. Arte grrr grrr.
Trade Ward and DFA Loup.
Why not just enjoy having 4 outfielders not names Mayfield or Magnificante Sierra for a little while instead of jowl mouthing trade demands in May and then bitching about depth in August?
This group of Moniak, Trout, Ward and Renfroe is such an upgrade over what we had last year, both in terms of defense and offense. Besides Mayfield and Gold Glove Sierra, Brandon Marsh with good hands but struggled offensively and Jordon Adell who started out hot offensively but significant defensive incompetence manifested.
No way. Ward is as likely to bounce back as Moniak is to regress.
Agree, Ward was on the list of top ten LF in the game and 1.5 months should not change that
Hes got an option left . There’s no harm to send him to Salt Lake to work on his swing and feast on some high altitude AAA pitching
That’s ok. 2-weeks playing 3-man cribbage with Jo and Brett won’t hurt anyone.
Oh, Mickey
You’re so fine?
yes, lol
You blow my mind
Every Moniak hit takes away all that bad ju-ju I had when Phillips was signed as a FA
Does Loup make it past Wednesday?
Sadly, I think so. Unless they want to open up a roster spot for a guy who hasn’t been up yet this year.
All those MiLB arms are basically in a race to see who can finish Loup off at this point. I mean, miracles can happen, he could come out and strait dominate his next couple outings and that might get him some time. But he sucked in spring. Sucked in April. Had fake boo boo. Was meh in the minors. Threw GM/Coaches under the bus. Came back. Sucked….. I think he’s out of boxes to check. Don’t think he’ll be around much into June.
The Raw, Unseasoned Broccoli, with Stems Award goes to Manager Phil Nevin for pitching Loup in a tight, one-run game.
Dude has to be dfa’d soon.
Nevin?
I’m good with a package deal.
At least he took Loup out with the minimum of 3 batters. He also correctly replaced Rengifo with Urshela in the 9th inning.
I actually like raw broccoli — comparing Nevin to it is an insult to broccoli.
Also, one is good for your system and the other is definitely not !
At least he yanked him ASAP
Sounds familiar…give him a test in a moderately high leverage situation to see if the ‘injury’ recovery resolved his struggles. Sounds like Phil & Perry had this planned. No HRs/everything hit was on the ground, so not as bad as Tepera. I think they give him at least one more opportunity before DFAing him.
Angels pitchers walked zero batters. Nevin has been listening about pulling Renny late in the game. Mickey is just playing so dang well, hard to reinsert Ward back in. Great Win against the Red Sox and their manager.
Ward is a solid player who is currently slumping. He’s capable of getting hot. I’m not ready to declare LF for Moniak
Nor am I. Happens all the time when a fresh face gets some key base knocks, folks promote him to all star level.
I don’t think Ward is not capable of playing, but taking out the hottest hitter right now is not something that would be smart. Trout is slumping, I certainly would not take him out and ditto with Renfroe. Problem is there are only 3 OF spots and Ward is for now odd man out. It’s Baseball and no player is ever out of it if he has formerly produced. I am a Ward fan to boot, but Mickey needs to play.
I’m OK with Moniak giving Trout a couple days off this week.
If Trout really needs load management I’d sell him at $0.50 cents on the dollar,
I dunno. Maybe 1 day. Thing is, guys like Moniak see more hittable pitches because guys like Trout are in the lineup.
I have a sneaky feeling that either Trout or Renfroe will be given a day off, so Moniak will replace whoever is off tomorrow and Ward will play LF. It will also depend on the starter for Boston, whether he is righty or lefty.
We definitely need both of these guys for the long season.
I think we’ll have a 4 man OF mix… which a lot of very good teams do, so I am into this. I mean, just imagine when Ward picks it back up. If Trout takes a day off and we’re “stuck” with Ward/Moniak/Renfroe? That’s some good eatin.
Mickey so clutch. Mikey is not.
Neither is Shohei. It seems to rhyme. Gotta make a poem out of this.
A one run win is so important, it should be worth TWO wins.
Silseth is filthy out of the bullpen. I think this should end the starter experiment, unless he’s used as an opener. Silseth, Dev, Moore and Estevez are legit bullpen pieces.
Barria has earned one more start. Hopefully he repeats this kind of start.
Hey Mickey!!!
It’s like bullpen day except we really did not need Loup to be inserted in 1-0 situation. Everyone else great, especially, Barria. I would feel much better if I hear Loup is designated for assignment soon.
Dancing Barria A+
Silseth gets an A+
Loup gets a Z
Devenski A+
The Sux are not as fearsome without their Big Pill Poppi
