May the 3rd is the day before May the 4th, and as such, The Force was not quite with us.
Shohei Ohtani had his streak of 3 hits allowed (or fewer) snapped, as he gave up 4 runs in only 5 innings. It wasn’t pretty, as he had multiple wild pitches as was erratic, yet his 13K showed how great his stuff was, when it wasn’t going into the stands. Very Nolan Ryan of him, and if it was the 70’s he would go a full 9, alas, only 5 and the bullpen had to do the rest.
Which wouldn’t matter as long as the offense was inept. They would need to score more than 4 to win. Against a very meh SP, this was very doable. Alas, they only got 3. Battle of the bullpens would decide this game.
And it turns out, their Loup is worse than our Loup as St. Louis blows the save and the Angels win!
Highlighted Recap
Cards struck first with a home run in the first.
Drury tied it, however in the top of the 2nd.
Ohtani gave himself the lead in the 3rd with a single.
Renfroe then got another across.
Alas, Ohtani had a rough 4th, allowing a double to score a run.
And a home run as well.
First time in a long time Ohtani gave up 2 home runs in a game. He did get 13K though, and 500 in his career.
In the top of the 9th, still down 1, the Angels sent out a sacrificial Lamb to hit a home run. Wait what?
Trout then put the Angels on top!
And then Rendon doubled in Ohtani for an insurance run.
Esteves closed it out and the Angels won! Series win, 3 in a row!
