Taylor Ward blasted a 3 run shot in the top of the first inning to stake the Angels to a 4-0 lead.
Armed with a 4 run lead, Patrick Sandoval went to work. He was dominant but not efficient.
Sandoval left in the 6th inning up 4-1. Zach Neto delivered a clutch two out rbi hit to push the lead back to 4 runs.
Neto delivered with the bat and the glove. A highlight reel double play helped keep the Angels in the lead.
It was a good day for the Angels bullpen. Aaron Loup didn’t pitch!, But newcomer Chris Devinski induced the double play above and threw two scoreless innings. Moore followed up with a clean 8th and Carlos Esteves managed the 9th
How do you guys feel about using Estevez in a non-close situation tonight? I didn’t love the decision to use our best relievers with a decent sized lead.
I am now bracing for a 1-run game tonight where we are forced to use Loupera and we blow the game.
I would tend to agree. That said, I liked the choices of relievers used overall. Devenski looks like somebody who could help us down there… I have my fingers crossed on him.
Moore has been been steady if not spectacular..I am not super confident with him playing such a large role over the course of a full season just because his stuff is not dominant. He has good movement on his pitches and pretty much relies on location. Potentially I could see an upgrade over him …So, in short, I agree, but at the same time I am not comfortable with either Loup or Tepera in ANY game where we have a lead of less than say 6 or 7 runs .. So that limits your choices/options.

Don’t look now but Tepera’s coming back, dead man walking Jimmy Herget is doing OK at SLC, Kenny Rosenberg is recovering from a bad start and is left handed. There are still plenty of ways Arte can show that he doesn’t care about winning and hates Ohtani.
If you consider a 6.75 ERA , a 2.00 WHIP and a .353 BAA is good well then I guess DMW Jimmy Herget is doing OK.

I think you are still looking at his MLB line, and not the MiLB line.
He has pitched 3.2 innings in Salt Lake in 3 outings. Still has a high 4 ERA there (gave up a 2 run HR in the seventh in the second outing against El Paso, before settling down to strike out the rest of the side).
5Ks in 3.2 innings isn’t horrible.
well if you include tonight’s game, 6.75. 1/3 of an inning, 2 walks, 1 hit. Cowboy’s numbers are up to date.

I know theres been some discussion here about our catching situation and the fact that Gary Sanchez has opted out of his minor league contract .
Sanchez has never been known as defensive backstop and its not like we have any gold glovers on the roster now that O’Hoppe is out but in the last 10 games our motley catchers are now batting.300/.344/.467. I doubt Sanchez would do better than that offensively and we’d have to drop either Wallach or Thaiss to take on the Sanchize.
So I’m voting no.

Thaiss and Wallach may never become starting caliber, but let’s see it play out a bit more. They have more upside at this point.

It appears that Walsh may return before Stassi, but I’m just speculating.
