LA Angels Tuesday News Crash:

The cuts have begun for the second half of spring training. The Angels optioned Michael Stefanic, Kolton Ingram, Justin Garza, and Jose Soriano. They reassigned Anthony Mulrine, Bryce Teodosio, Luis Ledo, Luke Murphy and Kenyon Yovan to minor league camp. Griffin Canning says what we are seeing this spring is just what he looks like when he’s healthy. Patrick Sandoval and Brandon Marsh both get mentioned as players who don’t get enough credit for what they do. Shohei Ohtani is still launching satellites. The Angels got ranked as wild card hopefuls rather than placed in the tier known as “Please Excuse Whatever It Is We’re Doing.” I like this: “Losing a whole bunch of games isn’t technically the plan.” (in reference to the Rockies).

Fans are griping about Mark DeRosa’s line up decisions as Manager of Team USA. What do you think? Maybe it wasn’t his idea at all. Team China appears to have been relegated. Twenty one year old Duque Hebbert struck out Juan Soto, Julio Rodriguez, and Rafael Devers to work his way through a scoreless inning for Nicaragua. The Tigers hired him on the spot.

Trevor Bauer is off to Yokohama and will earn $4 Million from the Baystars, provided he passes the physical.

If you haven’t seen it, here is that crappy call the college umpire got suspended for.

Joe Pepitone passed away. They talk about his Yankees career but I remember him as a Cub.

Chris Rodriguez was scheduled to throw another bullpen session on Monday. Rodriguez still hasn’t faced any hitters in batting practice, had shoulder surgery in 2021. Nevin said once the Angels get Rodriguez to face hitters, they’ll begin to stretch him out, and at that point they’ll make a decision on whether to have him start or relieve. …

Right-handers Sam Bachman and José Marte, who each missed time with general soreness earlier this spring, scheduled to face hitters on Monday. If they come through that without issue, they would next pitch in Cactus League games.

I think the player I am most looking forward to watching this year in terms of moving to the next level is Sandy. I think he could really emerge this year as a potential #1.

 😆 😂
BTW Look who we got him from! Is Andrew Wantz OK or is pursuing other things yet? Andrew Wantz is a typical run of the mill Angel’s pitcher…….gimpy arm, no command, no movement, no gas. no stuff whatsoever. Are you talking about Sandy Alcantera? We didn’t have anybody of note representing Venezuela or DR while Houston had 11 players and we had Rengifo.

All those years living with your mom, she must know Toots you’ve never the truth. The Astros have the same amount of players on the Venezuela roster as the Angels which is two.

Even Jose Quijada knows you’re quite the jack ass.

So, what you’re saying is “Yes, Patrick Sandoval looks likely to have a great year.” Or “No, Sandoval is toot mist.”. Or did you just let the spectrum speak again? ST is over soon. When you puttin out your brilliant IIWPM so we can get a clear layout of your brilliance?

Any gamethread for today or am I the only slacker. Rough time sitting in a Vegas sports book but somebody’s gotta do it.

Lol at Rengifo dancing in the Venezuela dugout. This WBC has been fun

DeRosa’s problem is not pulling the pitchers too early, it’s leaving them in too long. Which was done at least 2 times on Sunday night both with Brady Singer and Daniel Bard.

Do the teams dictate to Team USA that they have to get their work in no matter what? If thats case make them bullpen on the side if they get lit up early in the WBC. if the teams are putting extra restrictions on the pitchers in terms of rest days then maybe the WBC can allow the teams to carry more pitchers? DeRosa had to believe this was going to be an issue at some point during the tournament but has had no backup plan to date.

There was some discussion how other countries have an advantage over the USA since they have more lower level minor leaguers and unaffiliated pitchers on their roster that don’t come with as many restrictions. Well if thats the case shouldn’t our vaunted batting lineup blast them to smithereens?

I typically really enjoy listening to Smoltz do the color. Unfortunately in the WBC he is too busy defending his colleague to say anything useful.

Smoltz is right though. These guys are getting ready for the regular season and need their work. I’m sure he has some leeway on which relievers he can use what day, but there is no doubt some influence from the MLB clubs, players, etc or else they wouldn’t play

We don’t have that to worry about since we don’t have any good young Latin players under 28 yrs old. 😂 😆 😠 😜 😥 😠 💩 💪 💪 💪
However a guy named Gerard P Dipoto has the 2022 AL ROY Julio
Rodriguez playing for him!!! How did that happen? I thought he sucked at player development…..

he does . Is that why You had to get Mom to rec you moronic post again?

But after 14 years of player development working in a ML front office Jer Jer actually developed one good latin player. . Even a blind squirrel can stumble on an acorn now and then.

Just think of how many Guest Recs your IIWPM will get when you finally put it out. I bet DiPo will finally reply to one of your letters when he reads it. Though he may not dot all the i with hearts, he’ll probably finally go to Red Lobster with you.

Well, you haven’t defined your goalposts (other than Julio Rodriguez, and only one team gets him, right? right?, and we did have the ROY in 2018, just not a ‘Latin’ ROY).

But, we do have a few young Latin players (under 28) on the 40-man:

Jose Suarez (24), Jose Quijada (26), Jose Marte (26), Jamie Barria (25), Luis Rengifo (25), Livan Soto (22), and Jose Soriano (23).

(We also have Estevez and Urshela, at 29 and 30 respectively – meaning we have 9 of 40 players on the 40-man from ‘Latin’ countries.)

Remember that time Jerry gave Roberto Baldoquin 8 million dollars, that was impressive.
