All Time Angels (letter) G Team

Let’s assemble the best possible Angels team by letter of the alphabet to begin a player’s last name. Today is G. 67 men whose last name started with “G” played major league baseball in an Angels uniform.

C – Todd Greene
1B – Rene Gonzalez
2B – Bobby Grich
3B – Troy Glaus
SS – Benji Gil

OF – Vladimir Guerrero
OF – Jose Guillen
OF – Brian Goodwin

DH – Ron Gant

Grich, Glaus and Guerrero are all-time, inner circle, Angels. Benji Gil was here for the ring and a few other seasons. Jose Guillen was suspended to prove Mike Scioscia was the boss but when you look back on the 2004 playoffs, gosh we sure could have used him coach, but yeah, you’re the boss of this clubhouse.

SP – Eli Grba
SP – Joe Grahe
SP – Aubrey Gatewood

RP – Deolis Guerra
RP – Trevor Gott

The first pitch ever thrown by an Angel was by Eli Grba. The others here, if you blinked or took a few seasons off, you missed ‘em!

Gary Gaetti played some first base for the Angels in 1992 and1993.

He also played alot of third base but that doesn’t mean I would want his bat in the lineup . His 2-1/2 year slash line with us was a very disappointing .234/.280/.356. Not one of Mike Port’s better free agent signings.

Rene Gonzalez on the other hand hit .265/.354/.364 in his short stay with the team. (albeit as mostly in a Platoon against LHP) Not that great for a first baseman but considering Rev’s options here, but I totally understand the choice.

I remember being excited about Gaetti. I liked the Twins, they were winning, and that was about the extent of my young teen analysis.

He was really bad here.

That is one damned good outfield. Infield isn’t bad either except for 1B.

Pitchers & catchers report on Monday
Pitchers & catchers (3rd basemen, right fielders, and first basemen) report on Monday.
Remember we don’t develop catchers to actually CATCH ANYMORE!! China tried that in the 1950’s, and it led to mass starvation when teachers were made into farmers (Great Leap Forward). A 2002heaven history lesson. Also try hiring good college baseball program (UCLA, Florida, Vanderbilt,) coaches, I mean heck we should be able to outbid a college program…….can’t we?

O’Hoppe and Quero at 3B, Mulrine and Wallach at RF and Thaiss at 1B – is that your plan? Or are you just talking out of your backside again?

I remember thinking Grahe would be successful after his college career.

I can’t imagine any letter of the alphabet claiming a better offensive team than this one.

With Grich, Guerrero and Glaus in the middle of the order all pitchers would fear facing this murderers row in their primes. And despite that fact he was a headcase, Guillen was quite a good hitter (and fielder for that matter). A 2-5 of Grich, Guerrero, Glaus and Guillen is pretty formidable…

But that pitching isn’t taking us anywhere.
