All Time Angels (letter) E Team

Let’s assemble the best possible Angels team by letter of the alphabet to begin a player’s last name. Today is E. 25 men whose last name started with “E” played major league baseball in an Angels uniform.

C – Andy Etchebarren
1B – Mike Epstein
2B – Damion Easley
3B – Yunel Escobar
SS – David Eckstein

OF – Jim Edmonds
OF – Darin Erstad
OF – Jim Eppard

DH – Tom Egan

Thought there might not be a complete roster here, but there was… barely. Darin Erstad is the bridge between Edmonds and Eckstein for a certain generation of Angels fans. Yunel Escobar was the only batter besides Edmonds with an OPS+ over 100. The DH here is the backup catcher who was not as good a bat as Etchebarren and that is not saying much.

SP – Kelvim Escobar
SP – Seth Etherton
SP – Steve Eddy

RP – Mark Eichhorn
RP – Sammy Ellis

Jered Weaver was asked once on Twitter who was the teammate with the most natural talent and ability ever and he answered Kelvim Escobar. A truly underrated Angel. Mark Eichhorn had an ERA+ of 146 as a middle reliever here. The others, wow, picking from a group of only 25 players gives a manager few options.

Using Baseball Reference, the summation of Career WAR for the E team is 206.10.

It would be fun to compare this with the A, B, C, and D teams.

Probably the most complete team thus far. That’s a legit infield and two stud outfielders.

Yes, E is a somewhat unusual first letter for a last name so I was surprised by the team. They will have problems with Steve Eddy in the rotation but…. If I had more energy, I would start to look up the total career WAR of the A, B. C, D, and E teams to see what team(s) is (are) the best.

Indeed about Escobar and myspace was with us 2004-2009: not a coincidence it was the nice run we had.

1968 – that was a notable year in American history – things were going on – here’s me and Sammy Ellis about to take in a game against Yaz and the Red Sox that year.

I remember Escobar was fun to watch. Seemed he just could not rise above the injuries though, if I recall.

I was thinking of Kelvim Escobar pitching. Are you referring to Yunel?

Etchebarren had legendary eyebrows. Those alone took up a roster spot.

Voted Baseball’s “Mr Ugly” 10 seasons in a row. I’m not sure who eventually dethroned him.

came up for a cup of coffee in 1965 which was Don Mossi’s last year. Etchebarren took up the mantle.
