All Time Angels (letter) C Team

Let’s assemble the best possible Angels team by letter of the alphabet to begin a player’s last name. Today is C. 83 men whose last name started with “C” played major league baseball in an Angels uniform.

C – Hank Conger
1B – Rod Carew
2B – Dave Chalk
3B – Alberto Callaspo
SS – Orlando Cabrera

OF – Kole Calhoun
OF – Dave Collins
OF – Billy Cowan

DH – CJ Cron

Dave Chalk played the most games at 2B as an Angel “C” and it wasn’t that many but somebody had to cover the keystone and Callaspo had a better bat than Chalk in about 2.3 the number of PA as a Halo. Billy Cowan was a part-timer but take his 117 OPS+ over the 93 OPS+ of everyday player, clubhouse toxin and convicted sex offender (look it up) Chad Curtis any day.

SP – Dean Chance
SP – John Candelaria
SP – Bartolo Colon

RP – Mark Clear
RP – Doug Corbett

Dean Chance won the 1964 Cy Young over Sandy Koufax when there was only one trophy in the majors, not for each league. His numbers as an Angel make him a a Top Ten franchise starter. Clear and Corbett have numbers that Angels bullpens of the past dozen or more seasons could only dream of.

What a rotation. And a solid infield.

Takes me back to the good old days when our relief corp was.

Doug Corbett and Luis Gascan Sanchez…the best of times!!

Corbett and (Mauch’s long lost son Rob Wilfong), were part of one of the worst trades in baseball history. I know we had a glut of outfielders and aging DH’s But we gave away a young dynamic outfielder in Tom Brunansky for a mediocre middle reliever and a below average utility player.

And was stranded at third when DeCinces popped up on the first pitch.

I was there too but after reading this book:

I can never forgive Mauch. Mauch knew that the dude had a cortisone injection in his rib cage before the game but still used him anyway. That’s why his splitter didn’t split.

The C team is the best team so far, in my opinion.

2 Cy Young winners and a dominant left hander? With that starting pitching could we win in a best of 5 game series ?
