LA Angels Thursday News Crash: Low Earth Orbit

The Yankees pending offer to Aaron Judge is eight years at about $300 Million. This video showcase of the 15 hardest hit homers of the 2022 season is mostly “The Stanton-Judge Show” except for the Shohei Ohtani one that briefly achieved low Earth orbit.

Anthony Rendon made number 4 on this list the worst MLB contracts. Both Tyler Anderson and Shohei Ohtani made this list of the top 25 starting pitchers of 2022. Patrick Sandoval got an honorable mention.

Happy 60th birthday to Bo Jackson.

The Mariners signed reliever Trevor Gott. They also promoted Andy McKay to Assistant General Manager.

Adam Wainwright committed to pitch for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. So has Nestor Cortes.

Yasiel Puig pleaded not guilty to the federal gambling charges he faces.

If you look at Victor’s twitter, he’s teasing everyone that he’ll be back.

Cryptic comments, liking anything hinting he might be back, and has Angels 🎙️listed first in his bio ago.

As well as interacting with Gubi again.

I think it’s all but announced, honestly.

I want it all though – Victor calling the games and Trout putting up 2019 numbers!

And Rendon also putting up 2019 numbers.

The only way we’d be in the Judge market is if there is a new owner already working behind the scenes that has ok’d the deal, I would think..

I doubt Arte adds Judge to the books in preparation for a sale.

I meant overall pass. Not just Angels pass. 300 million! Just can’t see that amount or years. I could see 4 years 125 but $330-plus for 8?! No thank you on behalf of the league.

Dumb Perry missed out on Franklin Barreto. He goes to the Nationals.

Given our new MiLB contract offering Perry needs a Holder.

I’m feeling pretty good about the Halos starting rotation for next year. Last season, they performed above expectation despite a season long lack of run support.

Sho, Sandy, Detmers, Suarez, Anderson form a pretty solid foundation. If the Halos elect to go in-house for the sixth starter – Lorenzen, Silseth, Canning, or Barria – I’d prefer this to allow for some opportunities to add more offensive arsenal.

Is Lorenzen still in da house?

No, I think he is a free agent right now. I would like them to bring him back.

Unless the Angels have plans for bigger fish like Senga, I would be in agreement too. Unfortunately, Perry paid him $7,000,000 last year and I’m not sure I would want to bring him back at that price. I doubt the Pirates would pay that much for him this year

Eh. He had a 1.28 WHIP last year in 97 innings. If he could get up towards130 innings and get his ERA+ up over 100 (it was a meh 95) he’s worth 7M. If you get 23 or so MLB average (or slightly better) starts out of your last starter in line for 7M I’d take that all day. Get him cheaper, even better.

Definitely good with rolling with what we have for foreseeable future.

I don’t think the Yankees actually want to give Judge all this money… They don’t want to pay a boatload of cash for a guy in the backside of his career.

At this point it is all about PR. They want the New York fan base to THINK they really tried. But this is not a truly competitive offer….

How does this compare to the Shohei conundrum?

Well, regardless of what Arte may or may not have done going forward, once he made the decision to sell that changed the calculus. I think you have to at least give the potential new owner the chance to have/keep Ohtani, if for no other reason than he may want that. Obviously, a franchise with Ohtani is worth alot more than one without him etc..

So, the situation with the forthcoming change of ownership for the Angels makes it alot different. The Yankees almost certainly already know what they want to do about Judge, again, just playing the PR game at this point.

Whoever gets Judge will overpay and really regret the back half of that contract. He reminds me of what we do over and over with aging over-30’s position players who just had career years.

So you’re saying that if we really care about winning a championship we need to sign Judge. At least that’s how I’m reading this comment.

Rendon’s may be among the worst. Ohtani’s has to be one of the best bargains last season!

Good morning Halo faithful.

I hope we can sign a 4SS and/or Senga and retain Shohei long term. Santa, are you reading this? After these wishes, and my perpetual Super Lotto wish, that whole peace on earth thing can get done also.

Had I won the last Powerball the sale of the franchise would be over and I’d be announcing some signings today.
