The Angels acquired Nash Walters from the Brewers over the weekend for cash considerations. They optioned him to Salt Lake City. The Giants claimed Jose Rojas off waivers from the Angels while Steven Duggar elected free agency. The Tigers designated Michael Pineda for assignment. His roster spot goes to reliever Luis Castillo. They supposedly have a historically bad offense.
Andrew Benintendi will need surgery on one of his hamate bones. He thinks he can make it back before the end of the season. Nick Castellanos is on the injured list with an oblique strain.
The Dodgers signed Keone Kela to a minor league contract on August 31.
The Rays just designated right hander Matt Wisler for assignment.
Daniel Mengden cleared waivers so the Royals outrighted him to Omaha. He had the right to refuse the assignment, but it appears he accepted it.
The Pirates claimed Peter Solomon off waivers from the Astros and sent him to Indianapolis. Aaarh!

Uncle Joe went off again on Perry- Former manager Joe Maddon repeats frustration in how Angels’ front office handled analytics – Orange County Register (ocregister.com)
Wow. So Perry was actually telling Joe how to manage. This makes our season even more PTP’s fault
Joe sounds like a bitter old asshole who got fired for sucking. I seriously doubt the man was doing what PTP told him. I also doubt PTP was “managing” from his office. I extremely also doubt Old Joe was doing what he was told even if he was being told. I also wonder if anyone else recalls that, other than about five wonderful weeks, Joe sucked complete ass as a manager. Also fun to ponder, does Joe plan to work again ever? Cause if the FO being involved in rosters and daily plans, etc is something his raisinesqe ego can’t handle I don’t see who he thinks he’s working for in the future. I also don’t see which GM is going to hire him if he can’t close his hurt butt up and stop talking shit.
Well If Nevin is now doing exactly what PTP is telling him to do then PTP sucks giant balls too.
Have we seen either manager or his coaches constantly consulting “the binder” or an iPad? Are they always on the phone? I don’t think there’s been much managing from the suites in game, etc. If there was something we could see regularly, like how Andrew Freidman wears Dave Roberts on his hand like a sock puppet, we’d know, and we’d develop some flared nostril theory about Arte running things via DMs, and some of us would complain like we’ve been stabbed.
A guy with Joe’s ego, plus his lack of results the last few years…. he could literally be talking about PTP suggesting he not pitch Loup so often once Loup started bleeding runs like a stuck pig. But the level of public twat flexing he’s doing leads me to believe he was more of a problem than PTP butting in.
The hierarchy of fail on this team is Arturo, Minasian, and whatever manager who can’t work miracles with what he’s been given, looking stupid as a result. Some will look better running this lame roster than others, but no one will succeed in the end.
Any interview with someone who was just unceremoniously fired should always be taken with a grain of salt.
He just sounds like a butthurt old guy that has been passed by the game that once hailed him as an innovator.
You either retire a hero, or you manage long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Meh.
Exactly. Want to know why Buck Shoewalter is leading yet another young team to relevance? Because when he built past teams and then got replaced he didn’t cry like a clown whose flower just wilted. That and he adapted to some extent to modern baseball organization.
Maddon didn’t exactly cover himself in dignity on the way out of Chicago. Then he sucked here. Then he completely abandoned his pants and took to the fainting couch because he got fired and the analytics guys kept telling him stuff, which he apparently ignored.
I’m just starting to hate the guy because of his whole fake ass punk rock individualistic zen madman act. He did it his way. He didn’t care what his anyone told him…. cool. He got fired. Take it like the eccentric lone wolf you dress like Joe. Quit whining to the peanut gallery like a bitch.
Sosh never said a word.
Beginning to understand that Friedman and Epstein were the real men behind the curtain of Maddon’s Oz.
Count me in for the 5th thumbs-up vote.
Might be a good time for the Jomboy bases-loaded walk skit.
On the other hand in I’m a fan of Maddon and I think Nevin us horrible and I blame Perry for making that move.
Yes we were on a losing streak but we had 106 games left. Nevin was Perry’s option for 2/3rds of a season. In essence, PTP punted 2022
Maddon…smartest guy in the room and not afraid to tell you. Nevin is history, bye. If Perry stays, Montgomery will be his on the field puppet. Like Jedi and Servais. I don’t think this will end well. I’m hopeful a new owner brings a very wide push broom.
In the end, they’re all gone after the team sells.
I’m seeing more “experts” on other sites weigh in how Judge is still the MVP.
I agree that it is Ohtani-fatigue.
I think they are completely nuts to not recognize Ohtani as the MVP.
They make comments like “best offensive performance since Bonds.”
Well guess what… Ohtani is the best combo of pitching and offense since… forever.
The dude provides “elite” pitching and hitting. In one roster spot. The “value” of that is enormous.
Nash Walters. A bold and decisive move by Minasian.
Exactly. He’s stocking the cabinet with the necessary AAAA “talent” to make another run at 70 wins in 2023.
/s
I hope the cash considerations were nothing more than bottles and cans for recycling
LOL…and some of those stepped-on Angel giveaway cowboy hats
Bottles and cans just clap your hands…. It’s where it’s at!
https://youtu.be/EPfmNxKLDG4
I know. He totally should have gone out and gotten (insert name of player) there on September 4th. Especially since pitching is our teams big problem. Especially specially the AAA pitching’s effect on the MLB team.
Cool, does he still drive that yellow convertible Cuda?
He does and he always refuses to look back at explosions.
I think we are coming into that part of the year when we see a few clown moves like trading for Franklin Barreto.
We can’t trade for guys that have been on a 40 man right? Or been on a 25 man?
Correct. Never on the 40 man this season and never on the major league IL this season. That’s why anyone we trade for right now is going to be very marginal.
Minasian built a crappy roster during the off-season and didn’t fix it, so why not pick up Jesus Aguilar and give him a spin rather than let him pass through waivers to a play-off contender. We’re clearly going to need at least a platoon partner for Jared, assuming he is even able to come back from Thoracic Outlet. Instead, Nash Walters. SMH.
I wanted Aguilar too… but Jesus bro, you’re really fixated on this.
Id rather have Nash Bridges. We need to kick ass and take names.
Clearly, the desire and marketing power to keep Ohtani is going to be a huge key to new ownership. The dude just keeps delivering. With that in mind, who do you predict ultimately becomes the new Angels controlling owner? I’m putting my name out there: Masavoshi Son
One of Japan’s wealthiest individuals, educated at Cal, and owns Japanese baseball team Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks. It just makes sense to me. Any other predictions?
angel fan joe lacob!
he’s only worth 1.5 billion (F’N LOSER) so he will obviously have to get bankrolled by someone who isnt that poor.
Well at least hes got a winning track record. Maybe his rich friends will want to join a winning organization like the future Angels teams.
Cobra Commander.
Let’s get some real evil in the FO.
How about Skeletor?
Ha ha! Send for the mercenaries!
Ming the Merciless – he has money and won’t be constrained by the cap limit
He will turn the club around.
All I want is an owner that wants to win and is willing to put in place a FO that can assemble winning team without interference from the owner
I noticed last night that Ohtani is all over the ads for 2023 season tickets. Absolutely no guarantee he’ll be there.
I’d love to know the thought process on extending Ohtani. On the one hand I’d imagine it would be like tying up your anchor store in a real estate deal. You know the brand prestige and the income that comes with it..
On the other hand, I can see a new buyer wanting financial flexibility when buying the team.
I can also see a new owner not wanting his/her first move to be trading Ohtani at the deadline because the team sucks again. Nor would it be fun to become an owner and immediately get into a bidding war for his services.
My head hurts just thinking about it.
Not only Ohtani, its all those other Tier 1/2 type players that are impacted – cant really see any significant big time additions now for 2023 – no multiyear big ones for critical needs –
Yep. If history is correct this off season will be low impact…. which I am fine with, who isn’t sick of BIIIIGGGG MOVVVVESSS?
I’m convinced he will be on the roster when the new owner takes over and reasonably sure he will be extended
I’d just see who is interested in buying the team and then ask the front runners in said sale what they would prefer… with or without Ohtani. Then do it. Then sell the team. Then we win 100 championships.
I get to attend again tonight. Anyone else going to be there? I got lucky enough to live that suite life. Let me know if I need to sneak you some food or drinks!! LOL.
Nice! Enjoy the game and the Suite Life.
Did a suite rental last year for my 50th. Had a GREAT time!
Same here for graduation this past May. It was great!
(Though I did over-order the food).
Got one Augustt 14th for my Dad’s birthday. Was fun, but wow was it expensive.
What’s the damage? I’d assume being closer to brewery X or 401 (opposed to suites 42-55) would be cheaper.
Free 99!!! Our baseball league got 9 tickets donated so 4 board members and their sons are going!!
As with anything, lots of factors go into the cost. As an example, we did a Thursday night game as it was cheaper than the Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon. It also helped that the Angels were playing the asstros that weekend so it also made more sense to see the Angels vs. the Blue Jays on Thursday night.
All that being said, for 10-12 people and food you should expect to spend at least $2k. For a 50th birthday celebration we were ok with the expense and did not feel it was unreasonable or too far out of line.
We also over ordered the food.
Appreciate the respond! Obviously everything factored in, it could be a different final cost for everyone.
Any suggestions on food items to order?
Enjoy! I’m thinking of taking a long lunch tomorrow but won’t be there tonight.
I just got my $2 ticket!
