Angels crack under the heat and pressure

The Angels, having won 5 out of their last 6, felt confident going into the weekend series vs the Astros. It was unfounded, it was the Astros after all.

Reid Detmers tried, but he only went 4 and a third innings, giving up 2 (with an extra 2 credited to him), allowing 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Marte ended up allowing those 2 runs that were Detmers’ “fault”. But Zack Weiss made his MLB debut and that went well at least.

6K for Detmers

The offense also tried, getting some hits, but the Astros kept getting away, as if they were just toying with them. That is, until the 6th. It took their 4th chance, but the Angels finally scored against the Astros. Unfortunately, that was the only time they were able to score, as they failed every other time.

Highlighted Reacp

The Astros struck first in the 3rd.

1-0 Astros

Twice.

2-0 Astros

But the real damage came in the 5th, when Detmers loaded the bases and was replaced. Yeah the bullpen blew it, walking in a batter.

Bruh

And another

4-0 Astros

Meanwhile, the Angels had opportunities again and again, wasting every one. That is until the 6th, when the Angels finally scored.

Not shut out!

Thaiss added on, making the deficit less so.

4-2 Astros

However, while the bullpen kept it close, the offense cracked under the pressure in every other inning. 12 LOB. That is a dozen LOBSTERS against the Astros. When you get your chances vs the Astros, you need to bat better than .200.

Angels lose 4-2

No-hitter alert – Dylan Cease. Would like to see him get it and take the control of the Cy Young race and Keep Verlander away.

Syndergaard another weak outing. With the Phil’s, 34 innings pitched and 44 hits allowed, 1.43 WHIP. Marsh 3-ABs and 3-Ks. Couple examples where the traded players did not benefit by changing uniforms.

you’ve missed Marsh’s two previous games where he went 5 for 9 with a homer, a triple, and 6 RBIs

I saw it and occasionally a ball will hit his bat and do something positive. 55 ABs and 21 Ks. Not good for a guy with low slugging percentages. He will never ascend if he cannot make contact. Player development gone all wrong. Halo-style.

They should’ve closed the dome last night.

TrAdition continues. Can’t win enough to qualify for the playoffs; can’t lose enough to draft high enough for a potentially franchise altering player.

This franchise can’t do anything correctly.

As I’ve said, the Halos are mediocre at being mediocre.

Yep. We have all talked about the stuck-in-the-middle thing. Very difficult to escape that.

Good thing we didn’t play the “Snakes” this year after beating up on them last year.
Your break dancing robot would be nowhere in sight this time around!
They got better while we got worse……….

That’s only since 2010.
To the Astros, Dodgers, Blue Jays, Rays, and A’s draft position just doesn’t matter.

It’s one thing to have LOBsters, it’s another when 8 of 9 of them were RISP.

So many LOBsters, so very very many.

One more timely hit in the early innings and we knock out McCullers and the narrative is so different.

One good thing, looking at the Yankees, and then the Astros…. man, the Astros will likely beat the Yankees in the playoffs, probably beat the Doyers too. They are a strait up boa constrictor, nothing too flashy, but all muscle, no weak spots. They just squeeze a team, inning after inning, and out pops another Astros win. Yankers and Doyas fans hate this team so much it will be fun watching their bloated rosters get smothered by Altuve and a bunch of dudes no one in LA or NY has ever heard of.

I know, hurr durr cheat ah could nevarr blah f***in blah. If you think the asstross were even close to the only team using tech to cheat you’re a moron and you deserve the ass cancer all that pointless rage is gonna give you. They aren’t cheating now and….

I just hate them cause they kick the crap out of my team all the time.

Beating on trash receptacles isn’t high tech.
I gotta go because I watch reruns of NCIS post Mark Harmon along with the other 200 people who still hope he’ll return at age 95!

I just don’t think we have a chance of catching those bottom five teams. See, we can TRY, but speaking as a guy who kind of follows the Tigers, Reds and Bucs, they have TALENT when it comes to losing. They don’t have to try, they suck without effort. They are the Lynn Swan of suck. We just don’t have that kind of ability.

We should find the baseball conference with the worst pitching and draft their best hitters like Paul DePodesta did with the Cleveland Browns after drafting Corey Coleman a WR who was undersized and made of glass and played at Baylor in the Big 12 “no defense” Conference. Meanwhile the South Eastern Conference is the “Big Dog” conference of NCAA Baseball and not just football.

so ends the dream of 88 wins. Now we’re left with hoping for 87. Will that get us into the playoffs? Probably but it’ll be tight. We really can’t afford to lose another.
