Angels crack under the heat and pressure

The Angels, having won 5 out of their last 6, felt confident going into the weekend series vs the Astros. It was unfounded, it was the Astros after all.

Reid Detmers tried, but he only went 4 and a third innings, giving up 2 (with an extra 2 credited to him), allowing 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6. Marte ended up allowing those 2 runs that were Detmers’ “fault”. But Zack Weiss made his MLB debut and that went well at least.

The offense also tried, getting some hits, but the Astros kept getting away, as if they were just toying with them. That is, until the 6th. It took their 4th chance, but the Angels finally scored against the Astros. Unfortunately, that was the only time they were able to score, as they failed every other time.

Thaiss added on, making the deficit less so.

However, while the bullpen kept it close, the offense cracked under the pressure in every other inning. 12 LOB. That is a dozen LOBSTERS against the Astros. When you get your chances vs the Astros, you need to bat better than .200.
