Jose Quijada tried to give the lead back. Single, walk, single and an ill advised throw home by Marsh made it 3-1 in the 7th with runners at the corners and no outs.
Back to back strikeouts of Nevin’s son and Robinson Chirinos set up a dramatic showdown between Quijada and Baltimore savior Adley Rutschman. A long at bat ended with another K.
A 2 on 2 out rally in the top of the 8th wasn’t fruitful and the game stayed at 3-1 going to the bottom half of the inning.
A lead off double by Cedrick Mullins off Ryan Tepera brought the tying run to the plate. Fly out by Mancini moved Mullins to third. Single by Mountcastle made it 3-2. K by Hays made it 2 outs. K by Santander and the threat was over.
Ohtani provided some breathing room with a moon shot to dead center to make it 4-2.
Iglesias came in looking for the save but blew it. A 2 out single by long time Angels nemesis Rougned Odor brought Adley to the plate as the tying run. He came through with an RBI double. 4-3 Baltimore.
Mullins lined a 1-2 pitch for a game tying single. A passed ball loved him to third. Mancini walked it off with a single.

Why has this team stuck with its hitting coaches? Stassi does not remind me of any of our better catchers of the past. I see Perrys best influence during his tenure is in the farm system. The immediate results we are seeing at the AA level with our 2021 draft class pitchers has been impressive. And the development However our inability to sign and develop free agent pitchers is staggering.

Now Thor has been an exception but Loup, Tepera and even Iglesias have regressed this season. I have no doubt they would thrive next year in a fresh environment. Detmers proved last night that he’s better off listening to the minor league pitching coaches then the team’s support staff. This has to be a major League coaching problem. Matt Wise & Dom Chiti and any other pitching coordinators they have are on Perry and he needs to correct this going forward. Matt Wise, like the 3 headed hitting coach disaster were inherited by Perry from his successor but he’s done nothing to improve any of these positions.
from what I understand, Arte was willing to pay Dick Pic Mick $1.5 million a year to be our pitching coach why can’t they spend that kind of money on innovative effective coaches that are willing to keep their pants on in public?

Thus he is more susceptible to being crushed if he is off just a little. I do think Raisel and Tepera are capable of turning it around; again the volatility of relievers, good to bad to good again…

Best part about Niner Nation (because no SB since the drubbing of the Chargers) is actually the solid fan base. It’s more fun (for me) to go to their road games than home because of what you mentioned. Seeing them beat GB in the NFC championship with my 2 year old and 8 month old (at the time) a few years ago (and an ex player letting us wear the ‘81 SB ring) will forever be a life highlight.

Yeah a joke sucks if no one gets it. My intent isn’t for people to take anything personal, in fact I’ve been a big driver of trying to get a CtPG road game (or even home game) get together so we can add a human element to the technological world. I don’t doubt my joke, poking the bear or whatever don’t make everyone happy. But if I’m making fun of something it’s usually not personal.
We also just had a reset of sorts on the site this week. So if I’m poking you and you come back with direct name calling, that might be just as lame as me asking this community to help me make a meme (which I’m plenty capable of doing myself)

I can’t help but wonder how the club would be if we had given Doug White 3-5 years to see if he could shape our organizational pitching philosophy. He was the roving instructor for the Astros and heavy into analytics, and I would certainly attribute some of the current Astros’ pitching success to him considering he worked with a lot of their pitchers through the minors.
Didn’t we basically run him out of town, on the basis that he couldn’t communicate with our pitchers? I suppose that is a major part of the problem…
Based on his recent work with Heaney, it sounded like he was all in on analytics and used that to drive his primary pitching philosophy. It didn’t surprise me that the Angels—who were always 15 steps behind on analytics—had a hard time adjusting. There is that infamous story of Dipoto handing out stats to the players then losing his job shortly thereafter.
Detmers solid in his return, should have won. Trout with 3 hits and a 3 Run Homer. Ohtani with 3 hits and a should be insurance Home Run. Of course the Bullpen does what it does best, blow another game. Are the Angels allowed to only Win when Ohtani pitches? If that’s the case start him every game as an Opener then let him Pitch his normal turn in the rotation. He’s already doing it all, might as well take it to a whole other level. Or let Ohtani close games when the Angels actually have a lead going into the 9th. He can’t do worst than what we already have back there. It’s ridiculous how bad the Bullpen is after they started off so well. It was just a mirage giving us false hope.

Waiting for the day news of one of my schoolmate friends has passed from drugs or something else. Surprised it hasn’t happened yet given the lifestyle most of them live.
