This must have been the mid 90’s when it occured. Henderson had gotten on base via a walk or single and was standing on the bag chatting with the First Baseman of the other team, who happened to be John Olerud.
Rickey, said to him : “Hey, why do you wear a batting helmet in the field? …… You know, I used to play with a guy who wore a batting helmet in the field.”

What a great game! Just got home from it. My sister and hubby came down from up north and rented a diamond suite for a small family reunion and we couldn’t have picked a better game. 2 homers from Trout, 1 from Ohtani, some great plays, great pitching from Lorenzen and, of course, Walsh’s cycle.
Plus I got to munch on sliders, pizza and salad while looking over at the sea of blue in the far left corner and knowing they had little to cheer about. Coming in I heard a lot of smug “Let’s go Mets!” chants, but leaving they sure were quiet. Heh heh! (Granted they are in first place. But tonight was our night)
