The Angels say bye to the A’s until August, meaning the A’s may be a very changed team by then… again. It is just in their nature.
But enough about that, what is more important is for the Angels to get their mojo restored and get on a winning streak again. Last night was the first step with a win. Today looks to be the next step with a pitching duel of Sandoval vs Irvin.
Patrick Sandoval did live up to it. He went 7 and a third innings, giving up 1 run on 4 hits, striking out 7 and walking 1.
Ohtani hit well, having his 9th career leadoff home run. Trout also had himself a day, with 3 hits, getting a triple away from a cycle.
Highlighted Recap
Ohtani had himself his 9th home run of the year to lead off the Angels’ offense.
The bases were loaded in the 2nd for the Angels and things went horribly. Ohtani lined one to the outfield and Tyler Wade was doubled up at 2nd when Kurt Suzuki didn’t try to score.
Luckily, Trout legged out an infield single to get something.
Brandon Marsh hit in Trout in the 5th, making it 3-0 Angels!
Mike Trout hit a blast, his third hit of the day!
Meanwhile, Sandy was cruising, pitching deep, and giving the bullpen relief. However, there were defenses blunders that stressed Patrick to pitch more pitches.
First was when Luis Rengifo had a ball go right through his legs. Then, in the 8th, Tyler Wade couldn’t catch a routine fly ball in RF. It was the last one that really messed up Sandoval’s chance to pitch a complete game as soon after the shutout was lost. 4-1 Angels.
Ryan Tepera came in to get out of the 8th, keeping it at 4-1.
It was a save situation, so D-Cell came in to save the game. He struck out the side in order to secure the 4-1 win!
Wait, I read on here multiple times that we cannot win on Sundays. Yet, we are 6-1 wining the last 6 in a row.
Grrrrrreeeat win and very VERY solid pitching by Sandy.
Ward says he’s got a “stinger”, which in this case affects the nerves in neck and shoulder. He’ll get an MRI tomorrow (Mon) and expects to play on Tuesday.
https://www.ocregister.com/2022/05/22/angels-taylor-ward-feeling-better-hopes-to-play-on-tuesday/
So who waits until they feel better and then gets an MRI? This makes no sense.
I’m guessing he’s got insurance.
Co-payments are to expensive
The radiation from the MRI gives him his super powers.
A surgery for fusion of the cervical spine is coming shortly…
Spine replacement
BTW-I noticed our “Doomsayer extraordinaire” didn’t post today…….
🙄
So Trout is having a good year so far. Last year everyone talked about how well he was doing when he got injured. He is a couple games played past what he did last year.
16 more ABs
12 more Runs
4 more hits
20 more Total Bases
4 more Doubles
4 more Home Runs
8 more RBI
.699 Slugging (career high at this point in the season)
1.133 OPS (career high at this point in the season)
I’ve got to admit he’s getting better.

Trout is having a very good two months. He has not disappointed and has showed he is fully healthy. He needs to be in the lineup every game.
If he’s in the line up EVERY game that outa fix those stats.
I was told (by so so so many news article) that it was simply not possible for Trout to get better – that he would inevitably decline after a) passing the magic age of 27 b) having a kid c) moving to LF (because he would slow down) and yet …. he is playing like an MVP (again).
Maybe it is boring to keep talking about Trout for a decade – but when he improves year after year – when each of his ‘comps’ keep falling off (where are Altuve, Bregman, Harper, Soto, Donaldson, Betts), but as we have noted, he is a velociraptor and is still (amazingly) underrated.
Make it make sense.
LOL @ “Troutani!”
Keep it rollin’ Halos!!
Go Halos!!
Now we need to return the favor and sweep Texas
The two game sweep is not enough for me. Do I want it, yes, but I still won’t be satisfied unless we sweep them in a 3 game series later…
Yes absolutely. We must win 3 games in the span of 2 games or BUST.
Do you understand what the word “later” means? Lmao.
I prefer the win three games every two games plan myself
So you’re out for blood?
Hardcore but I like it.
Jay-zus! It seems like forever since we won a series. /s
To all the doomers:
To “all” the doomers?
How many are there really? Maybe three?
You know what they say, If you don’t know who the doomers are then maybe it be well…
Ughh. I did not think you were stupid like everyone else Cowboy.
You surprise me by posting such idiocy.
But I guess we have to go through this again….
1) I don’t like the term. I think it is stupid. Further, nobody has
been willing to actually define the term. Perhaps they really
know just how stupid it is..
2) Just yesterday despite my dislike of the term I acknowledged
that IF we accept such a designation there are two people who
would clearly fit the bill. That would be 2002heaven and cuda440.
I am not sure if I would include “Marine” since he is not as consistently
negative (at least from what I have seen, in addition to the fact that we don’t really know what “doomer” means since nobody has defined it). So, other than “TootyTwo” and Cuda I am not sure there is anyone who fits the bill. That is TWO people total.
Not really an imposing band of haters to be honest.
I don’t think of myself as a doomer. I don’t like the Rendon contract. I think it handcuffs us because it causes Moreno not to spend enough on other needs. I have posted I love the Big 4, Stassi, and Marsh. I have hope for Adell. I love Raisel, and a lot of the starters. I wish we had a true #1. I don’t think the bullpen is really fixed. If this makes me a doomer, I’ll own it.
Thanks for clarifying Marine. I did not think of you as one (whatever it is) either.
Sure thing. I’ve been rooting for this team since 1961, and have endured a lot of disappointment over the years, so sometimes I get impatient when I think we’re moving in the wrong direction. But I was there for Games 3, 6, and 7 in 2002, and I hope I will personally see another championship before I’m gone. I want it for Mike Trout more than me.
The more I think about it , I don’t think doomer is the appropriate word and its not just disappointment. All Angel fans are used to disappointment. this teams history is riddled with tragic deaths, freak injuries and monumental collapses . And I think in most cases we don’t choose to follow this team it just happened for whatever reason. What we all have in common is we are all true fans that at some point over the years gave this team part of our heart or soul but have only very rarely been reciprocated.
I guess its not a doomer mentality that annoys me its just seems like a lot of comments filled with blind anger that just seem so unnecessary
I personally think the Dutch are pretty much all doomers.
Not sure but I know they’re cheap.
They just have lead poisoning, not their fault.
https://flic.kr/p/MN8x7r
Actually I never thought you were a doomer but I’m a shit disturber by nature you kind of set me up there with the softball toss.
I dont think 2002 is a doomer hes just a trolling contrarian. Cuda440 definitely as well as Bradlllleeeee424, Allen B, Marine Layer ( love his handle but it makes him too gloomy) and even Jake Taylor . Theres others but everyone is playing nice today because we had “Just Another Halo Victory”
Well, I had forgotten about Bradllleee. So if we include him with the two I mentioned that is still only three people.
Marine Layer explained why he is not a “doomer” (again, whatever it is), and I tend to accept his explanation. As for Allen B, I only ever see him comment in the game threads. Not sure you can include somebody as a “doomer” if their negative comments are limited to game threads and never touch regular daily posts.
I must admit I do not remember many posts of Jake Taylor so don’t know how I might categorize him. Still, if we included him it is only four people which is not a heck of alot.
RE-LAX
unpossible.
I am veeery relaxed. Almost like I had taken several gummies. Except I don’t do drugs, so there…
There are precisely 6 1/2. There would be seven, but i’m still not convinced 2002heaven isn’t a bot.
Lee Harvey, you are a madman. When you stole that cow, and your friend tried to make it with the cow. I want to party with you, cowboy. If the two of us together, forget it.
OK, Doomer.
You got it, Boomer.
Well-done Mia, Legend.
It’s nice to win a series, but we should’ve swept them.
Any team can beat any team on any given day.
That is baseball.
Let’s Go Halo!!
https://youtu.be/MLCLMEYp9s0
A little off topic, but given the weekly whine and chiz plate we get every Sunday when Joe rests guys, this got me wondering…..
Has it occurred to anyone that there may be something wrong with our beloved grizzled white hope Michael Stephanic? I mean, mid century angsty writer turned ball player Dillon Thomas is technically hitting better than him, hell, he’s barely better than Keon Wong. Maybe hitting well in the PCL is even more over rated than I thought, especially with no pop? I’ve only seen one full game of his on screen and a bunch of highlights. Maybe he’s not just meh but bleh in the field? Is he a total dick?
I don’t have any reason to suspect any of those things. He looked good this spring to me. But some of us long for him like chivalric poets longed for an untouchable Duchess. Yet after the list of guys we say are worse than The Plumber who get called up instead of him grows to more than half a dozen you have to wonder. Is he maybe not that good, or is there a massive conspiracy to keep him from us?

This might be your answer, a real life one however.
that’s the thing….Stefanic has hit wherever he’s been but he’s not much better than Squid was at SLC.
Much less power this year than last. Unfortunately he’s not announcing his presence with authority like he should be.
I wonder if his name was something like Joe Smith that didn’t lend itself to the kind of catchy, jamming nickname that seems to nowadays be required here, if that angst would be there? He looked nice in Spring, but not enough to be pining for his talents here before he might be ready.
Joe Smith is interesting especially with all of those wives.
Didn’t know when Joe Smith pitched for us he had multiple wives…..
Or, are talking about the once great Joesph Smith, baseball manager for the St. Louis Missouri Cardinals back 1882….invented the double play the squeeze play and the long relievers all to help manage his many wives. Also filled out his lineup cards on magical gold tablets.
Yeah. I personally will be interested to see what happens when he gets called up. I assume he will at some point, and I’d like to see a Westmont Warrior win a batting title. But I’m not shredded with angst when Wade makes the roster and he doesn’t.
GPB out, bbl.
Well, on the post-game show they explained that DP on the fly to RF hit by Shohei and that caught Wade going back to 2nd base. What was Nevin thinking? Probably that Suzuki was slow maybe? Wade did the right thing with a tag and go and did not see what Nevin was doing being blocked out of sight by the third baseman, so we won the game anyway and no harm, no foul. But Suzuki should have been sent, both Gubi and Bobby V. thought that.
Whenever I see Bobby V I wonder what that guy spends on tanning booths.
I watched the same post game but got a different message. Bobby V said the ball was hit too hard to allow Zuks to go back to tag. he said that Pinder should have thrown the ball home and if Zuks had went he would have been a dead duck. Gubi said there was no reason to take a chance on tagging up because you had MNT on deck but they both agreed that even though Pinder threw a rocket when you’re on second you always watch the lead runner so you dont run into an out.
Case closed.
Great game & series overall.
BTW, the Dodgers had a “Bill Buckner” moment in the final play which cost them a win (no offense to the late 1st baseball).
Regaining momentum, let’s go!
Tura bull. Obviously the A’ss didn’t shell Tepera because he reminds them of delicious food and they spared Iglesias because they love De Nina a Mujer. I mean, this is barely a win. Rengifo played, Velasquez, Wade, Duffy, Suzuki… this is like 18% of a win. 19 LOB! Make it 15% of a win.
Sure, they may be 9 games over .500, but if they had the heart of a true champion, the grit of a wild clam, the eye of the tiger, the body of a male belly dancer and the heart of a whale they could be ten games over, hell, maybe twelve and they’d beat teams that matter instead of just the team they are playing.
And as a team they dared to have 5 strikeouts today. 14% win maybe.
Screw these guys. 10%.
I hate Kool Aid.
Not to mention that they should have sweep these lowly A’s. Only 9 games over .500 is weak, very weak. No Kool-Aid drank here, well maybe a little, lol
19 LOB. Whoa. I don’t know what box score you were looking at because there were 10 LOB. Still a lot.
Didn’t matter because the Las Vegas Athletics aren’t very good anymore.
Welp there only 1/2 game behind Jerry’s boys so you might want to rethink that man crush Toot Toot.

Our ten is nineteen if you’re super serious about serious evaluation.
Isn’t zero like nine in German so they’re basically the same thing anyways.
Nein.
Male belly dancer. LMFAO

Downed a couple of Dos Equis Beers and fell asleep holding what’s left of his 🌠hotdog(s). May we all live life like this gigantic man. Doyer fans FTW
Did he pay for three tickets? Because that is AT LEAST how many seats he is taking up.
I will love his sports illustrated swimsuit cover. I will be forced to love it.
80/20 Rule at work here?
80% of success comes from 20% of total
Sandy is just a delight to watch pitch and with our defense playing tight, this team is back on a win streak. Who’s next (The Who, 1971) on the schedule? Bring them in. Ohtani and Trout both homer today, who says Trout doesn’t like day games!
Do you think a guy like Velasquez has an added value for a team like ours with a fairly high ground ball percentage? Today it really looked like Sandy got a lot of Ks because he could pitch into ground ball areas of the strike zone with confidence, knowing if they made contact he’d likely get a fast out, then if he got 2 strikes he could go for the out pitch.
When the Angels pitchers look good they seem to lean this way a lot.
I don’t think there is any S in Velazquez.
There is in Squid.
I’m just glad I didn’t call him Vasquez like the rocks.
D-Cell strikeouts the side! #10
Uncle Ikemen sucks!!!
You trying to say D-Cell is your Hero?
news of our demise was premature
