Angels Beat Dodgers 5-1 in Anaheim

The Angels faced the Dodgers in Angel Stadium in a World Series preview, (maybe). Almost everyone on both sides had their starting 9 out. While there were a few missing, like Fletcher and Freeman, it felt like a regular season game.

It was a Thor Day on Sunday, as Noah Syndergaard had the start on the mound. He went 5 innings, with 7 strikeouts against 1 walk while allowing 1 runs on 2 hits.

Good outing!

The offense was led by Taylor “Blake” Ward, who had a 2 run home run. Walsh had an RBI single, while Ohtani and Rendon had back to back jacks as well!

Mike Trout had the most frustrating day of anyone, hitting multiple fly balls to the warning track.

Recap

The Angels scored first in the first. Anthony Rendon had a two out double/error and scored on a Walsh single, 1-0 Angels.

Walsh gets first blood

Taylor “Blake” Ward then hit a run home run, 3-0 Angels.

BLAKE!

But the Dodgers struck next, getting to Thor in the second inning for a run. 3-1 Angels.

Things got quiet for a while, until the bottom of the 5th inning, when Shohei Ohtani hit a monster home run!

OH OH OH OHTANI!

It was followed by Anthony Rendon! Back to back!

Tony 4 Bags!

5-1 Angels! This score would hold as the Angels pitching held down the powerful Dodger lineup. D-Cell came in to close the game out in the 9th, and shut down the Dodgers.

Angels win 5-1!

Man…sorry to be the first to mention this, but this ST, the game against the Doyers tonight and how they hit Buehler, how good Thor looked, etc: season hasn’t even started but I’m feeling…mighty…wait for it…built up.

And y’all know what the rest could be.

According to this site, which is poorly translated or written by a guy with English at a Borat level, or…is it an AI?:

Anyway: in comparison with his rookie season, Jo Adell “is able to faucet into his uncooked energy.” Sounds…good? Insane?

What the hell is this? It’s not Jeff Passan. I know Passan (his prose); this ain’t him:

Some good reading, I liked it. Some nice long shot shot plays. Agree, Adell can do some damage this year. Also nice read on Sandoval.

“… if Anthony Rendon stays wholesome”

Having seen so many, I think poor translation from an Asia gambling site.

The things is, from what I’ve read about him, Rendon IS “wholesome.”

Another thing about Adell, according to the article: he’s “not precisely the strolling kind.”

Let us never think otherwise!

Yes, but does Adell have luminous power resistance?

But where is the Luminous Resistance Power? This guy’s translation reminds me of 1866Baseball!

I’m most definitely NOT a betting man, but I think the Vegas books have the Angels as winning 83 this year. IF I were the betting type, I’d go the over.

This is merely a comment, not a recommendation.

I spent around 90 minutes last night reading predictions for this year, from pundits. Most see the Angels finishing behind or neck and neck with SEA, around 8 back of the TrashHoles. Why? My gawd, the lineup is stacked, but as we see every year, their best guys get injured. Also: SP is weak.

Yea. We’ll see.

Staying calm is key. Everyone, don’t be too anxious to make predictions please. That is something that has bothered me about alot folks on this site; the Angels win two games and all of a sudden people are making outlandish predictions which jinx the team.

Please just be patient.

For me, staying healthy > staying calm. If Trout is not 100%, 83 wins is the ceiling.

Yeah, Trout and of course Ohtani are essential pieces. We need both of them healthy for pretty much the whole season. If either of them misses more than say two weeks max it will be tough. So, keeping my fingers crossed for that.

We also need Thor to not only be productive but to stay healthy. Same goes for Iggy, Sandoval and probably most of our bullpen. It is alot to ask for.

I’m partially guilty of this. (See above) Point well-taken, JackFrost, and I highly recommend reading Bertrand Russell on Jinx Theory.

This Spring has been the best in forever. Excitement for this season is building, even Rev is on board. We will make the Playoffs and further if we stay healthy and as we all know being healthy with this team is not the norm. Go ANGELS!

This team is going to surprise everyone and has the ability to surpass the 2014 team and bring us back to the top.

But just remember that 2014 team started 0-3 and was only 16-17 on May 7th

Seems to me the 2014 team was nothing spectacular aside from Trout, who is spectacular putting his socks on, so the team bar is low.

They did get their “playoff participant” ribbons, so good on them. Woulda been nice if they could have won at least one game.

Yeah, that season was definitely not a “success” in my book. Winning a weak AL West and getting swept in the first round is nothing to write home about.

Ohtani- Kboom.
Trout- so close, good in the outfield.
Rendon- Boom plus Magna-glove fully operational.
Thor- Hairy thunderer
Iggy- Shutdown man.

Gotta think this team could settle down to being a lot better than 81 wins.
