Angels Rock the Rockies in Arizona, 8-2

Angels visited the Rockies in Arizona and. Jose Suarez had the start, looking to secure his rotation spot. He did well for himself, allowing just one run on 4 innings of work. The offense clearly helped him out, as the Rockies Arizona home acted like COORS Southwest.

Recap

1st

Shohei Ohtani grounded out to start the game. Mike Trout walked, but was thrown out trying to steal second in a strikeout thrown out double play.

Jose Suarez had a nice 1-2-3 first inning to start his start on the mound.

2nd

The Angels did nothing in the top of the first, with Walsh and Upton flying out and Marsh striking out.

Suarez did not have that luxury, as he gave up a run on multiple hits, including one to former Angel CJ Cron, who scored. 1-0 Rockies after 2.

3rd

It was another useless inning for the Angels offense as Suzuki flew out, Tyler Wade grounded out, and David Fletcher lined out.

At least Jose Suarez kept it a one run game by having a quick 1-2-3 inning that saw two strikeouts. Still 1-0 Rockies after 3.

4th

Ohtani walked to start the 4th. Trout struck out looking, and Rendon flew out. But then Walsh had a 2 out walk and Justin Upton hit a 3 run jimmy jack to give the Angels the lead!

Monster blast

A single by Walsh kept the inning alive and was rewarded as Kurt Suzuki hit another home run! 5-1 Angels!

BLITZ!

Jose Suarez went out there now with the lead and acted like it, throwing strikes and getting the job done, well besides a double. Still 5-1 Angels after 4.

5th

David Fletcher got a double to start the 5th. Ohtani immediately got him home with a 2 run home run. 7-1 Angels.

COORS SW

Jose Marte had the mound for the 5th, and had issues. He walked in a run after loading the bases with one out. After getting the second out, he was pulled for Archie Bradley, who got out of the inning. 7-2 Angels after 5.

6th

Tyler Wade had a two out walk and stole second, but it amounted to nothing as the subs have come in.

Archie Bradley went out there for more work and escaped a 2 on no out jam thanks to good defense. Still 7-2 Angels after 6.

7th

Stefanic walked with two outs, but was stranded there at first.

Austin Warren pitched after the stretch and put the Rockies down in order. Still 7-2 Angels after 7.

8th

Jose Rojas hit a one out solo shot to increase the lead to 8-2!

4th home run of the day!

Mayfield singled, but that was it for the Angels’ offense.

Oliver Ortega had the 8th and while he did allow a leadoff single, he got out of the inning with no damage. Still 8-2 Angels after 8.

9th

The Angels went down in order in the 9th, just 3 outs away from winning back to back games.

Ivan Armstrong closed out the game for the Angels, even though it was a bit rocky, he didn’t allow the Rockies to score.

The Angels win 8-2 and have won two in a row in Arizona.

Yep, I feel like it’s just a matter of time before our cup will get buttered over.

The Angels pitchers are trying to fight for a spot. All the infield hopefuls are really trying their best. Part of the equation happened today with the shuffling of positions showing a lot of versatility by all. Nice contracted spring we have had with a winning record.

As much as I like GPB, I don’t think he should be manning any of our key middle infield positions
