Spring training is officially postponed until March 5. I guess it’s best not to go buy spring training tickets at this point. The clubs claim they will refund people but there’s no telling how long it will take. The Mets, though, apparently got some trainees to show up for a spring training mini camp.
The Oakland City Council Certified the environmental review of the new stadium plan being advanced by the Oakland Athletics.
Another pitcher is going with protective headgear after getting his skull fractured by a 104 MPH comebacker. They don’t seem to write any stories about any pitchers using protective headgear before they get hit. I guess common sense is boring.

Couple of things from the meeting.
Regarding a draft lottery – players want 8 teams involved, owners offered 4 – so you can see where that is headed. Should be a pretty easy issue to agree upon.
Re pre-arb bonus pool – Union is at $115m – owners upped previous offer by $5m to $20m. Look for that to settle in the $60m range. That’s a more difficult negotiation and owners will likely want to tie certain moneys to concessions elsewhere.
The big one is luxury tax and the two sides are far apart. No negotiations on that issue today. They are likely saving it for last hoping it will just fall into place.
Union was underwhelmed by the owners today. But at least they were talking.
I am starting to think that both sides have to declare themselves “underwhelmed” at all times. It is the dumbf*** term that everyone needs to drop constantly to show how serious and legit they in this particular situation. Serious and legit are definitely the true north for both sides in this. Full stop.
