I think this has been linked, but it’s very interesting. Shohei Ohtani declined a “People’s Honor Award” from his native Japan because he plans to be even better in the future.
The Angels have discussed a trade for Luis Castillo with the Reds, but a deal remains elusive as of the time of this writing.
Noah Syndergaard weighed in on the Carlos Correa diss of Derek Jeter’s defensive skills. It’s a little ambiguous whether Thor thinks Jeter deserved his gold gloves, whether he just feels ball players shouldn’t be showing each other up on talk shows, or whether he just doesn’t like Carlos Correa.
Meanwhile, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, Tyler Wade thanked New York for his nine years in their system.
Fangraphs presented a relatively detailed view of what the Aaron Loup signing means for the Angels.
The Angels are hiring Phil Nevin as their third base coach.
The Angels picked up Trey Cabbage over the holiday. He’s an outfielder and corner infielder who has made it as high as AA.
Non-Angels Links
Trey Mancini and Buster Posey won MLBs Comeback Player of the Year awards. Posey really went out on a high note.
If you’ve ever wondered what Max Scherzer would look like with a Thanksgiving turkey for a head … well … look no further.
The Giants signed Anthony DeSclafani for three more years and $36 Million.
Meanwhile, the Rays signed Wander Franco to an eleven year extension and the Twins signed Byron Buxton to a seven year extension.
The Reds signed Michael Wacha to a one year deal worth $7 Million.
Corey Kluber signed with the Rays for one year at $8 Million plus incentives.
Marcus Semien signed with the Texas Rangers yesterday. Kole Calhoun also has a deal with the Rangers.
The Mets signed a bunch of position players, but now they are reportedly interested in pitching. Marcus Stroman thinks the Mets are looking at other pitchers instead of him, but says he will dominate wherever he ends up.
We are in the last three days before the lock out. Spend them well, Perry.
Here are some front office positions with the Seattle Mariners.

Baez to the Tigers is getting close.
Come on Perry, get a six pack of Red Bulls and get to work.
I hope all the SS but Galvis, Villar, etc are off the board fast. If Arte does any panic buying I want him stuck shopping in the pitching isle.
Hopefully its not the clearance about to expire dented can pitching isle
No, I’ve been told by the resident chief of propaganda that dear leader is incapable of doing a weak, mistaken thing like “panic”.
If we give Trevor Story $160M, detractors must be silenced and shamed, right?
Gotta say I am really enjoying the Arte is a bad owner slander
14 team playoff…hmmm, so everyone gets a partcipartion trophy? Or is this a question of “How to we make sure Trout and Ohtani make the playoffs?
Question of “How can the owners make a little more money by playing extra playoff games”. Pay elevated ticket prices, buy merchandise because your team made the playoffs. Generate fan interest.
Wow. A few other kids get a couple of the toys we wanted and this place turns into a sad sack of shit really fast. It’s November 29th. Most of you listed a host of reasons why you DON’T want the pitchers who signed today. Some of you are shittin mad about losing Alex Cobb… the same people who were mad about having Alex Cobb. I can tell a lot of you are frustrated because, even though you said you didn’t want Max, you wanted Max, and now you’re all puffy and sad because other kid got Max.
And then, most offensive of all! other players have been signed by the Angels, and they aren’t Max or Stroman! Holy F***! This is fan abuse! I hope none of you old men shattered a hip throwing yourself to the ground kicking off your tantrum. I get it, what kind of sadist GM signs depth pieces while the other kids get Gaussman? I’m loving the declarations that next season’s team will be worse than this season’s team. What are we, a bunch of 14 year old girls publicly declaring we are going to kill ourselves because a concert was sold out?
You all remind me of a kid I saw once crying in the parking lot of a Chucky Cheeses cause the giant mouse went and high fived the kid whose birthday it was instead of him. Maybe we’ll get Stroman. Maybe we’ll trade for someone. Maybe Lorenzen will win the Cy Young. Maybe we’ll sign a beefy bullpen. Maybe the players we want are looking at CtPG right now and are thinking “F*** these people, I’m signing with the Tigers.” It could happen, all of the players I want (accept Loup) all have the power to sign elsewhere. I have to be ready for that. But Jesus Christ people, I was just on the Yankees page, how is it we are managing to come of like more entitled wankers than they are?

I feel like we’ve earned the right to be sad and pissed about watching the exact same story as the last several offseasons. We’re only able to sign bounce back candidates, that inevitably fail, to one year contracts. Now we’re watching it again in real time and we should be optimistic?
I didn’t say be optimistic. I said quit acting like a bitch.
I’m sure you know the word “fan” is short for fanatic. Being reasonable and on an even keel would make us less insanee when we
win the championship again
Ah yes, the ol fan = fanatic so this shit’s not stupid and annoying. I’m not saying people shouldn’t care about this stuff or be disappointed if we don’t get what we all want. Of course that’ll happen, it’s natural. I’m just saying there’s a point past which it gets pretty ridiculous. Especially if we’re gonna lose our cool over something that’s a long way from a finished situation, or go to pieces because some guys made decisions that aren’t the decisions we wanted them to make as far as the teams they sign with.
Or did we even want them to sign with us? Didn’t seem like it a few days ago. It’s just lame as f*** when we put on our big adult pants and demand all kinds of intelligence and performance and grit from our team one day and then drop those same pants and throw a hissy fit because we’re fanatics and we’ve been hurt before and it’s been so long and and and we deserve stuff so now 2022 is a wash and we shouldn’t even watch and so on…. these are grown men, and some grown women, doing this. Being a fanatic, even a disappointed fanatic, isn’t the same as acting like a bitch tool. Hyperventilating and getting angry about our FO not controlling every situation, even situations we didn’t even care about Friday, because we want some something and we wanted it for a long time isn’t being a fan, it’s being an entitled twat, and it’s acting the same as the entitled twats we all swear we dislike in other fan bases.
But hey, everyone’s got the right to handle themselves how they want. Grown men can act like bitches, and I’ll say “wow, what a bitch.” and life will go on. But there used to be some f***ing standards in this fanbase, and scrolling through these posts I’d say they’re pretty much gone.
For a guy who is annoyed by grown men acting like bitches, you certainly are a broken record shoehorning unprompted Arte takes and bitching about the same thing instead of…walking away? Going somewhere else?
Maybe a sports blog isn’t somewhere a grown man should hang out if he is triggered by different opinions.
Exactly. Our frustration is built on year after year of false promises of “fixing the pitching” and being sold on hope. Let’s just be honest, Arte does not pay for quality pitching. He just doesn’t. The days of Bartolo Colon are long gone.
The true tragedy of being an Angels fan is that we are continually close but oh so far. Having Trout and Ohtani and other key pieces like a Fletcher etc are just an elaborate form of fan torture. The song may be gone but the Angels fans are still singing that same refrain.
So yes, we do have a right to be sad and even angry. This is not Yankees or Dodgers entitlement. We are stuck in the middle. Being a truly losing team is in many ways better when high draft picks are accumulated and used to stock the farm system.
Alas, we Angels fans are left to dream of potential post-season glory while the committed ownership of other franchises actually decides to pay the price of winning.

Which concert was sold out?
“we are managing to come of like more entitled wankers than they are?”
In the last 5 years, the Yankees have won 419 games, the Angels 335. We’re fucking tired of the wankers in the front office running out a bunch of wankers on the field for us wankers in the stands to watch.
If we don’t keep Iggy…….why not Melancon for “much” less and for less years.
Yeah, I’m not expecting much more than a closer and defensive SS the rest of the way.
Knebel, Tepera, McHugh, possible flyer on Nelson or a long leash on Brad Hand. We need help in the pen. We are more unsettled in the pen than the rotation. These guys are going to get picked off soon.
I’d love Jansen. I think he reinvented himself last year and his new pitch mix will give him a few more years of effectiveness.
If not, definitely McHugh. I tried so hard to shoehorn him into my Perry piece but couldn’t.
I’d prefer two from your list to one big name.
And the mantra for the sane continues. Replace the bad innings pitched with better innings pitched….. Replace the bad innings pitched with better innings pitched….. Replace the bad innings pitched with better innings pitched…..
I don’t care how it gets done. Just get us more better innings. That’ll move the shit out of my needle.
Arte is not going to see 4 or 31/2 or even 3 million fans show up. No pitching means a losing record once again. Arte has never brought a World Series team to his team’s fans.
Watching the FA’s sign elsewhere is bad, but signing in our division is not OK either.
A trade with the Padres would have worked out well for us, Frazier to second and Fletch to short.
We have a need for Stroman and our closer back, just do it damn it.
Recap so far. Thor who did not pitch but a handful of innings is signed but to a confident one year deal. Loup (Who historically is not a closer) is signed. A bunch of names for back up in the minors that no has heard of. I believe that the bar will not be raised to must more.
I have the nagging sensation that our cups are being buttered. I sure hope not, but I’ve been around this team for a long time now …
Yep.
When Paul McCartney started singing Buttercup during episode 1 of Get back I knew that was a bad sign.
When does episode 2 come out?
They’re all out now.
Thanks, I watched episode 1 last week. Looks like I have tomorrow night and Wednesday night planned now!
The Angels are the George Harrison of MLB. We have this great talent and great material we are holding but are not given the chance to show our stuff on the big stage. We are pretty much left watching from the sidelines.

Dear Perry and Arte – sign Stroman and Raisel and I will get over my frustration/disappointment.
Agreed
At this point i’m prioritizing Raisel. Loup doesn’t move the needle if he’s just a replacement. We need both
Not gonna happen.
Seager for that much and for that long……is hilariously hilarious.
Good for him Mang……..
-Albert Pujols
Seattle signs Ray and trades for Fraizer, Texas Semien and Seager, both teams do not have Trout and Ohtani.
The Angels are probably trying but just can’t bring ’em home. Right now we need our closer back and a warm body at SS.
After missing out on pitching, the Angels panic-signing Trevor Story to an 8 year deal is inevitable now 😲
Why do you build me up?
More like Angels panic and sign Correa for 400 million 10 years
There goes Cobb to the Giants.
https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/1465476696694566912
What were we waiting for? Is Arte on Vacation?
Guarantee this is contract restriction type stuff. Perry can spend what he doesn’t have.
Arte? You mean Scrooge McDuck. He was last seen in his vault counting his gold doubloons.
Not trading Cobb and Iglesias at the deadline was a huge mistake. It was as obvious then as it is now. Now we get nothing in return
Comp pick for Iggy……it’s something
That will almost make up for th pick lost by signing Thor to a one year deal.
Not trading Cobb was inexcusable and same with Iggy. If Iggy doesn’t come back then it’s just yet another incompetent move by Arte. Yes I know Perry is the GM but we all know no matter who the GM is, Arte is the one who has the final say in everything.
We better resign Iglesias else we wont be able to finish games and not make it to the playoffs
We get the comp pick but a better package would have been the trade route. WTF Minasian?
Nice pick up Giants!
Who did they get ?
The combo of a Cobb-Webb
Cobb in the park could play very well.
I’m fine with this. I’d bet Sandoval and Suarez both provide more value than Cobb next year.
So how many big names have the 5 California teams signed? Could be that we need to offer a lot more than Texas teams because of the tax on income as Texas does not tax income.
Exactly. California is a complete shitty mess. It once was the Golden State. Right now it is the poop on the sidewalk state.
The Sun ain’t gonna shine anymore.
I’ll hate on the state of this State all day but let’s have some context here:
Oakland was never going to sign anybody. SD’s roster and budget are both pretty full.
SF resigned DeSclafani and are bringing in the Cobbler after making a serious run at Gausman.
Dodgers are eerily quite but also still the deepest roster in MLB. They will sign someone.
Angels brought in Thor early. That’s a pretty big name. We definitely need more.
We need ALOT more.
This is looking like another big Buttercup.
Right now, the team looks to be 4 to 7 wins better, unless all the stars line up perfectly, and that isn’t going to get to the playoffs.
Not if we lose Raisel. If that happens and we don’t sign Stroman we could be worse. Even with a healthy Trout and Rendon (big IF).
Yup, the agents are trying to get the big names to sign in this state, but no takers. No way are the big name players coming here without a bump.
I did some pocket math on the other site and the take home difference between us and playing in Texas is a little less than 7%. Keep in mind I’m no CPA.
Assuming a player is smart and keeps AZ or TX as their residence, they’ll pay 13.3% state income tax on the 81 games at home, 9 in Oakland, and 3 in LA every year. That’s 57% of the games.
Keep in mind that if they sign with the Rangers or Mariners or another state with no income tax, they still get taxed on the games they play here in Anaheim and in Oakland. So Seager will pay CA taxes on about 18 games per year.
So while I hate the CA tax system for small businesses and the middle class, for the top of the free agent market they’re really debating state income tax on about 60-70 games per year. Something that could easily be negated with some endorsements.
There are personal factors as well but if I’m going to be rich, I would much rather be rich at a beach with great weather than in Dallas or NY. Others would differ.
Good point. And Seattle (Washington) has no State tax.
Just so everyone gets the memo, our mantra is updated to:
“I blame Arte and Gavin”
Wait… we’re letting Andrew off the hook?
Hahaha fuck the Angels!!!Posted by Telekelenic Sasquatch on Nov 29, 2021 | 1:32 PM
Who hurt the city of Seattle?
Damn wing nuts up there need to get more sun.
Ohtani still living in their heads rent free.
We know firsthand that winning the off-season doesn’t mean jack shit.
I was “impressed” by how well the Mariners “did” in the playoffs.
Why even play the games? Just give them their rings right now.
Is this 2001?
Suck it Jedi! Shohei says..konnichiwa.
I think payroll is going up. Supposedly we had an offer for Max and just couldn’t compete $$ wise with that insane offer. If our offer was between 30-35 a year, that tells me the pockets are open. I’d rather have Iglesias and Stroman than Max for the same amount.
Iglesias + Stroman > Scherzer.
I agree with that math equation. It is true, but not by alot. In the end I take the two guys.
Closer is SO damn important.
This is what I have been hoping the plan is. Stroman + Raisel makes us better than Scherzer by itself. I’m really hoping Perry is able to pull that off. We would just need a backup catcher and try to trade for a decent SS. But adding Stroman + Raisel will make me feel good about our chances to compete next year for the first time in a long time.
But I am starting to get good ole’ Buttercup premonitions again….
Yeah. All we need is, you know, those players to want to come here and play. It can happen. Like I’ve said, we’ve been bitten by the “I want to play in….” bug before, but at some point someone’s gonna want to live in Newport all summer.
If it were up to me, I’d resign Raisel for four, trade for Sonny, and pick up Knebel or a good set up man, let Rengifo play short or second until the deadline. See how it looks then.
Rengifo can’t field, not good for ground balls that should be outs.
Would rather put Fletch at short and bring HK47 out of retirement lmao
Actually Rengifo’s defense at short was pretty good.
Get your facts out of here! We’re complaining!
Yanks are looking for a SS. 1-800-Ren-gifo
We have to be better than Rengifo if we’re going to compete for anything. Velazquez likely has the better glove and is just as anemic of a hitter.
I’d love a trade for Farmer and Gray from Cincy. Fill out SS and the rotation in one swoop, pretty inexpensively payroll wise, then spend a little on whichever hole is created in the trade.
Again, if we don’t add alot more pitching than we already have none of that matters.
Definitely. But a good shortstop will help any pitching while a bad one can undo a lot of upgrades to the staff.
Agree. But it is about priorities right now. Perry should know that. He has been around the game of baseball his whole life, even if he is a newbie GM.
If he misses out on a top starter (not to mention losing Raisel) he gets a big “F.” There is no other way to look at it.
Only a sith deals in absolutes
Thought about you the other day as my son bit I to a ginormous slice of pizza at D’oro.
Didn’t realize why he wanted to go to the bike store with me so badly until we got there.
Pizza D’oro on Newland?
Yessir
My best friend (who was also my best man) lives right around the block from there!
Nice!! Love that spot and am happy they were able to make it thru the pandemic without having to close. Their giant slices were my go to nourishment as a young kid growing up. My dad still lives near it but I moved to the other side of HB so don’t go as often anymore.
I, and if I remember right you, should be OK with what has happened thus far. Rather than pull an Arte/Billy winter like the past couple years PTP is offering top of the market starters contracts that get traction AND signing up other pitchers as he works so we don’t get left holding a bag full of Cueto in February. Will I be bummed if Stroman n Raisel signs with WTF knows? Sure. But I’ll be more bummed if we’ve signed nothing at that point.
Thus far I haven’t seen anything to make me think that signing Thor, Lorenzen or Loup has prevented the FO from going after anyone I want. I just hope some of the guys I want want us.
Not sure about everyone but even though Perry has not made a deal today, this perceived deadline has been an adrenaline rush. Hoping MLB can set a FA signing deadline ahead of the Winter Meetings in the future. This is like the NBA where the majority of the guys come off the board in 72 hrs.
Zack Greinke is looking better and better every minute now.
Not a terrible fallback option, he may want a team with better playoff odds at his age, though.
Beggar’s can’t be choosers.
Greinke is a long way from being what he once was. We don’t need we he has.
Any port in a storm, eh?
One word :
NO.
One good thing about Max & Seager signing with other teams is that it hurts the Dodgers. Remember the Dodgers and Angels have the same amount of W.S. Titles since 1989. The Angels of course was more legit.
The Dodgers are finding themselves in a Bauer-ful predicament.
So when did the Doyers move into our division?
They could play in the Soviet League and I’d still love the Dodgers losing.
Da, Comrade. Doyerskis nyet good.
They’d probably be playing against teams coached by former angel farm hands so I’d be down with that.
The last place I want the Dodgers is with a pile of unspent cash, a deep farm system, and fishing with us from the small pool of talent remaining.
Arte is bringing a plastic spoon to a gun fight.
