LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Braves win the World Series

Good morning Angels fans! The offseason is here! Have some links!

Angels News

Anthony Rendon looks to be ready for Spring Training. I mean he better.

Trevor Plouffe is an oracle, one who wants you to donate to the Skaggs foundation.

Considering that Perry was the assistant GM for the Braves before coming here, there may be some hope he knows what he is doing. Now if only Arte will let him.

Around Baseball

The Braves shut out the Astros 7-0 in Game 6 to clinch the World Series! It is the first shutout clinching game in the World Series since 2005, when the White Sox shut out the Astros 1-0. Braves in 6, someone called it.

What was the highlight of the game was Soler hitting it out of the park. He won the WS MVP.

The 2014 Tigers Rotation now all has a ring. Wow, with that good of a rotation, surely the Tigers did well with them!

Seems like teams do not like clinching at home. This is the 8th straight time the home team did not win. (if you count 2020)

Well, the offseason has begun, and now the panic of the CBA can truly begin.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

Shocked that Buster Posey is retiring after the season he and the Giants just had. He had almost a .900 OPS and is only 34 years old. He’s a no doubt a hall of famer, and I’d be surprised if he doesn’t’ make it on his first ballot.

Incredible career. Arguably the greatest of any active player.

He took last year off to raise the twins he and his wife adopted. Seems like a very family first guy. I think that is where his heart is.

I wasn’t aware of his family situation or that he took last year off. Good on him though for quitting before he couldn’t play anymore. Went out on his terms, not some GM’s.

According to Albert , The GMs don’t have a say as to when it will be the end of his career. Since, only Albert can dictate to the league when his career is going to be over.

there have been endless delays in this trial. I have no idea why or whom it could possibly benefit.

It benefits Kay. I don’t have PACER access (Charles does), but I’d bet that the motion for a continuance came from Kay’s lawyers.

I have PACeR login. I get BK paperwork from it.

The delay did come from Kay’s lawyers. Apparently the feds added a charge of illegally selling oxycodone and the defense says they need to revamp their entire defense now.

That’s from Google not PACer.

It benefits the defendant, because justice delayed is justice denied. Witnesses forget, people stop caring, the prosecutors want to clear the dockets. It’s a defense strategy as old as time. I say this as a reformed lawyer.

Reply to  JackFrost

I was semi-hyperbolic because of the PTSD the Angels have caused in me over the past few years.

From 2013-2016 he averaged 158 games/yr: I give him Iron Man status there. But after that:

2017: 114 games
2018: 140 games (not bad, but not Iron Man, and we really needed him)
2019: 134 games
2020: ASTERISK YEAR
2021: 36 games

Throw out 2020 and he’s averaged 104 games for us those last 4 non-COVID years.

And yes, I’ve read the classic How To Lie With Statistics, and I’m using this past sad, maddening, no-good year to bolster my claims. All I really want from him is another 150+ game season in 2022. The rest will take care of itself.

Now: the pitching…

Agree that health is or should be our number one priority (to the extent that an organization can control or impact that; interestingly, I read that Perry is looking into making changes to our training staff/regimens) for 2022.

And I also agree that pitching is next on the list (first SP and then bullpen).

Obvious QO offers: Correa, Seager, Ray, Semien, Kershaw, Freeman, Rodon, Story. I also think Verlander gets one.

The interesting calls could affect the Angels: Matz, Eduardo Rodriguez, DeSclafani, Jon Gray. Morton likely gets one but he’s not coming to the West Coast.

And, of course, there’s the Angels own call with D Cell.

My interest in Matz is minimal but the more pitching in the free market but better for us.

What was Jo Adell’s WAR?
Besides his GS vs Detroit ( a team with a losing record, of course ). Players who play both good defense and hit are called waaiit!! waiiit!! All Stars. Never said he was Ronald Acuna. Lets see here Nick Castellanos, Yordan Alvarez neither guy is a GG fielder, Manny Ramirez, Frank Thomas damm sure would suck to have had those guys too…….

Yah know it’s not prudent to try and go against me like CB 26 did ( Marcus Semiem ) and many of you did 2 years ago at HH ( Nick Castellanos ). LOL!!
Joe Adell’s hitting mechanics are a disaster and I don’t see the potential that you or my fave Angel’s GM Eppler saw in him…. Nice tools and athletic ability doesn’t help you hit. ( see Michael Jordan ). I’m not in favor of hoping that our two sunk cost $70M investment 30 yr olds stay healthy for the whole year and then sob over if only they had stayed healthy then we could’ve won 90 games like the Mariners and Blue Jays. We have to proceed on as if they’re not going to be there…….

I love that you’re throwing down your “I have a history of being right all the time gauntlet” for…. Jorge Soler… who is “under 30” by 100 days and that’s apparently why we should sign him.

I mean, did you even look at his B-Ref? And if you did, you don’t see the joke in pushing Soler (a one time top 5 MLB prospect who has produced those career numbers) as “the answer” because Adell is a bust?

I feel pretty prudent in saying you are a silly man and a couple guys who were only a positional fit for us in HINDSIGHT doing well doesn’t really change that.

In an age-to-age comparison, Soler is basically a bad Justin Upton. Signing him coming off a hot postseason as he heads into his age 30 season would be like begging to handicap the team for another <contract length> years.

Next stop will be Japan. Jo Adell won’t be a AS sorry CTPG. The young guy is also not a good fielder either even though he’s a great athlete. he’s Brandon Wood 15 yrs later unfortunately……… This was Eppler’s disaster legacy as our GM gambling on tools and he drove us over a cliff.

Over the course of an entire season, Soler is a marginal improvement over Upton. His defense is so bad in left that you don’t want him out there, his bat is far below Ohtani’s so you don’t want to DH him.

Adell is far from a stud but overall in 2021 Soler put up negative 0.4 WAR and Adell put up positive 0.3. Given the age and likely career curve it is a sold bet Adell will be more valuable than Soler, who would be redundant on this roster.

Pretty sure she can throw over 100 mph, out perform Shohei as a 2-way player, and can make Altuve admit whether he was using a buzzer to cheat in 2019.

The Angels don’t have a shot though. She lives in Paris and would want an East Coast team to keep the flight home shorter.
