LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Please Hold…

Good morning Angels fans, have some links as we await the conclusion of the LCS’s…

Angels News

Angels got themselves a new pitching analysis hire. Hope he is more useful than just ‘throw more sliders’.

What Angels items are at the Baseball HOF? Jeff Fletcher took some photos.

Angels MiLB player standouts according to the Angels themselves.

Around Baseball

Yankees keep Aaron Boone for 3 more years. Some are surprised but it is not his fault his players failed at their big moment. I know I would take 92 wins a season easy.

Speaking of NYY, they are looking for a shortstop, which means competition for Arte getting his precious billboard player. It could also mean Correa which would be interesting to say the least.

Boston is being insufferable as usual, this time with grand slams. They have hit 8 out of the last 9 in the history of the ALCS. Their 3 in a series is the first time that has ever happened in the postseason.

Arizona fall league is testing Robo Umps and a pitch clock. Game time? 2 hours 45 minutes.

Dice-K has retired from Baseball entirely, getting a standing ovation in Japan. 23 years combined in Japan and the US.

MLB is looking to make streaming more streamlined and Sinclair is not going to be allowed to be involved.

ALCS and NLCS are still ongoing and fastballs keep getting faster.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.

He must have been calling for a left hander . Grandpas only allowed to call on lefthanders now

I liked having a real closer. I’d even go 4/56-60M for this fellow. Maybe offer 4/52 with big yearly performance bonuses where if he has a low WHIP, K/9 and K/BB over a certain number of innings (so basically, he’s a top leverage arm) he gets a bigger pay day, like 17-18M a year max, etc.

I would prefer 3 years, but he has been consistently good for a long time now. So, if it takes 4 years lets get it done (especially if length means a slight smaller yearly payday – which means we can better afford other pitchers).

gitchogritchoffmypettis

Yeah, I’d prefer 3 years too, but I bet 4 locks him up….. unless he and his mom have had their eyes opened to all the evil that lurks behind the closed doors in the darkened hallways of the Angels’ offices and he just wants out before the monsters get him.

Then 5 years? That’d do it right?

What if we traded Raisel in July for the Brave’s top starting prospect Kyle Muller? Muller, Detmers, Ohtani in 2023 top of our rotation? 🤓 🤔 🤔 💪 💪

Iglesias isn’t accepting a QO. So…. don’t sign him? Just take the draft pick (#32?) and sign, I don’t know, Jeurys Familia for 7M a year? Or sign guys who won’t want a multi year deal… like Hansel Robles?

Swanson out as Scouting director. Still with org sounds like maybe.

I’m glad Perry is doing some house cleaning this week – i have confidence in this man.

They will probably hire someone I have never heard of from a team I have heard of and I will be angry because I have never heard of the guy because who the hell knows the names of anyone from the lower ranks of teams front offices.

But why would ignorance stop someone from complaining about this upcoming hire?

I’ll take these moves as a positive. We might actually have a plan, a direction.
Maybe getting back the pre Covid levels in the front office after all the lay offs.
Perry took the first year to evaluate and now he’s making changes.
Let’s hope his plan leads to improvement and some stability. And lets hope Art has figured some things out and will stay out of his way. Maybe Perry reached deep into Arte soul/brain and convinced him to change/get out of the way.
Or, maybe we got lucky and Perry is really good.

As long this person isn’t Arte’s chauffeur or Mrs Moreno’s Chief Of Staff……
Make sure this new hire is not related to John & Dennis either.
💪 💪 💪 a economics degree from a Ivy League or some other elite school ( MIT, Duke, Stanford, Univ Virginia ) would be preferable…..

I actually liked his drafts better than his dipshit predecessor Ric Wilson. But I’m glad PTP is taking charge of the program. With the exception of Soggy Joe, most all of the remaining guys are now Perry’s

It would be great to move on from Soggy Joe. After being boxed into a corner by Joe’s crying for FA pitchers, I think Perry will blow him out next October. Then I will be convinced that Perry does have power to reshape this organization.

Ummm, and after “blowing out” Joe who do you have who is better to take his place, huh ?

I thought you might come to his defense. I’m not sure Perry appreciated Joe claiming he needed FA pitching to be successful. Puts the crosshairs right on the GM to perform. We’ll see who the boss is.

I think Arte should give the finger to us all and just bring Soth back. Will we win 100 games? No. Will a bunch of people cry like they are getting stabbed to death with a bowling pin? Yes.

What’s up with all the Maddon hate? 5 years ago 90% of us had him as our “if only” manager. There were like 3 guys who didn’t want him. Now everyone wants to claim they were that guy.

Unless there are serious philosophical differences between PTP and Maddon I say keep him. He hasn’t been great, but he’s also never had a roster at more than 2/3 strength. Consistency and stability are an important factor we may have lost sight of back when we all hated Soth, but I don’t think it would hurt to build some. We don’t want to fall into chasing the “hot new face” every couple years.

JackFrost

Agree. Joe Maddon is actually a very good manager. In fact, anybody you could name would have struggled to compete with the pitching staff he was handed.

Not to mention the injuries which caused two of our best three players to miss significant time. Give Maddon some decent pitching and decent health and he’ll put you in the playoffs.

2002 Heaven will be happy. We’ve got a bunch of Cardinals and Brewers guys and demoted Swanson, also a Cardinals guy, but an Eppler hire, so he has to hate him.

I am totally medium on this. Those drafts weren’t horrible, as we are starting to see, but if PTP gets someone better then heck yeah, that’ll be awesome.

I actually hope they move Swanson into Alex Curry’s old job so 2002 can see him all the time.

I’d like to see Perry become President of Baseball Ops and hire a GM.

Or have Arte hire a President of Baseball Ops with Perry remaining as GM.

I know – crazy talk.

That may be but every playoff team in this year’s playoffs has a PoBO.

Cool. And the Diamondbacks have Mike Hazen, the Twins have Derek Falvey, Baltimore has Mike Elias, The Rangers have Jon Daniels, the Marlins had Michael Hill, the Nationals have Mike Rizzo and the Royals have Dayton Moore.

The Angels will likely have one too, as soon as they have a successful GM who has someone under him that the team doesn’t want to lose so they create the spot and move everyone up a peg… which is how most PoBOs were created.

It doesn’t really mean much. If the owner sucks he sucks, if he does better he does better, a PoBO doesn’t cause any of that. I’m all for getting a PoBO, but the whole idea that most of our FO moves are dictated by something other than trying to win ball games and a PoBO will put a stop to that is weak sauce.

That was a dumb-ass fastball that got hit for a 3 run HR. Bellinger was swinging as hard and fast as he could and they threw him to fastballs in a row. Throw him a wrinkle and he would have struck out.

The Dodgers, Yankees, Astros, and RS all suck because they haven’t won the world series yet. Maybe MLB should hire Cyber Ninjas to conduct a 90 day long audit on this. 💪 💪

Yep. Funny how the national media excoriated the Astros for their cheating but very few questions were asked about the Red Sox (led by Cora) and the “Apple Watch” scandal. They paid their fines and then it was all sort of swept under the rug.

MLB streaming service sounds like an mlb.tv surcharge to lift home team blackout rules

They already have that as a $10 surcharge option but you can only use it if you have a cable provider, which makes it pointless (because if you can already watch it on cable, why pay $10 to watch it on MLB.tv).

This sounds like a separate service. So now, if you follow an out-of-area team, you can buy MLB.tv to follow that game and pay an extra $10 per month for a different streaming service to avoid the MLB.tv blackout when they are playing a local team.

When they just end MLB.tv blackouts, including for the playoffs, then I’ll be interested.

Roberts is the convenient Fall Guy. That is his role.

Friedman is calling all the shots (or close to all of them).

It is good for him since when the Dodgers win Andrew gets all the praise as the “genius” behind the scenes but when they have bad losses it is blamed on Roberts’ terrible bullpen/pitching management.
