Angels keep Mariners at bay, win 2-1

Angels 2, Mariners 1

In front of a sell-out crowd at T-Mobile Park, the Angels threw cold water on the Mariners’ playoff hopes. Seattle now sits one game back with two to play.

I wrote earlier about the young talent that the Mariners had waiting in the wings, but tonight it was the Angels’ rising stars that came through. José Suarez pitched five innings of a gem. Brandon Marsh doubled in the winning runs.

And José Quijada struck out three batters in a high leverage situation to preserve the one-run lead.

The Angels remain undefeated this season when leading after eight innings. Almost hard to believe, isn’t it?

The positives this seasons are Marsh, Suarez, Adell (before he got hurt), and Sandoval (before he got hurt). Not to mention, Ohtani’s emergence as a generational talent.

76 wins is a lot considering all the injuries and the team is 8 games over .500 outside the AL West (where we have been horrific). I am somewhat optimistic that the franchise will turn things around. Big questions include whether Rendon has anything left in the tank and whether Trout can stay healthy. It will be an interesting off-season to say the least..

Raisel has been a positive as well! Without him this team likely loses 12-15 more games.

Cobb was a successful find. Warren seems like a useful pen piece, and I like what I saw from CRod (before he got hurt) and Detmers (before he got sick).

The Mariners sucking is important to all who are saying they’d rather have Boston or New York get eliminated. I think them missing the playoffs would be important to stop momentum at least temporarily.

Angles played half the year with less that 3 pure OFs. Aka Goose, Wong, Rojas, Ward…Juan is gone.

Yeah that stinks. I’m sure he would of liked to get the “unclutch in the playoffs” monkey off his back. If they don’t win the west the cardinals are winning the whole thing though, you just don’t stop that momentum

Honestly, my mindset now is if (1) the Angels can keep Seattle from making the playoffs and (2) the Dodgers are eliminated in a one game playoff with St Louis, the season will not be a total loss. I could then move on to watch the playoffs in a relatively fine state of mind.

They don’t need him at all; Max, Urias and Buehler. Nasty stuff. Kershaw too erratic in the post season to be counted on.

Well…bye.

Marsh wants a job.

That pitching staff actually looked good. Man I have really started to not care if we have to overpay Raisel to keep him.

It has also dawned on me that there’s a good chance they keep Cishek. Let the tantrums begin. I just hope that Iglesias plus starters = too much money to afford him. They’re totally keeping and “developing” Quijada too, though that may work out.

Quijada who Maddon nicknamed Bluto after his resemblance to our good Senator might be back next year. Like Barria he has no options left next year so the Angel will have to keep him on the 26 man roster all of next season.

Well, I really liked his swagger when he struck out the side, with runners on the corners. If that is the Quijada we keep, I am all for it.

(Also, Cishek got hit hard when he first joined the club – but look at his stats over all, including inherited runners, and he (especially for the 1.5M we are paying him) is probably worth having around (even if we rant collectively). The Devil you know…)

The problem with Cheese Shit are those damn Walks.. He doesn’t seem to give up hard contact but this year with a BB/9 of 5.3 and a SO/BB of only 1.66 that just drives me to too much drinking over the course of the season. I know his funky delivery and arm slot produce a lot of ball movement he’s got to cut down the walks as he has done in previous seasons . From 2017 to 2020 he’s averaged 3.6 BB/9, a 2.66 SO/BB and only a 1.10 WHIP ( compared to this year’s horrendous 1.48) If he does comeback next year, hopefully our elite coaching staff has permanently ruined him and this year was only an aberration.

Sure, every possible reliever out there has issues. But as one of the pen arms we keep – I wouldn’t mind him. Warren, Mayers, Iglesias, Quijada?and ???

Quijada was nails.

He gets Panther of the Game.

As for Raisel, he of the 35 saves is the reason we have the 2nd best record in 1 run games in all of MLB.

No question we need him next season and moving forward. Perry gets a gold ribbon for that move.

Falling in love with that bullpen performance is a trap. Rasiel is good, the rest…unproven.

Now that Joe has blorted out the need for the Angels to sign FA arms, Perry is in a corner. He’ll overpay for Rasiel.

Who’s falling in love with our bullpen? I’m saying that if we sign Raisel we should probably be prepared to have Cheese Shit and Quesadilla on the team.

Freaking Angels. Sigh, I guess it’s not that big a deal but honestly would much rather the Mariners make the WC than those two barf teams out East.

Yeah, Mariners have been just as big as a dud as the Angles in the past 15 years, thus I feel no tension towards them since the Weaver-Seager rift. I’d rather see the Yankees kicked out of the playoffs.

I get it but the Angels have a chance to keep Seattle out of the playoffs. Believe me the M’s would be relishing the opportunity if the shoe was on the other foot.

Then you can root against Boston and the Yanks in the playoffs. Which is always fun!!

here’s my favorite from their thread

Could there be a more Mariners way to throw away the best playoff opportunity in 20 years then by losing to this fucking team like this? Right after getting everyone’s hopes up! Fuck! Sometimes I wish this team would move cities so I could stop giving a fuck

Really, there is no grounds at all for Red Sux fans or Yankee fans to think this as those two teams benefit more from blatantly horrible calls than any other squad.

By a wide margin as well..

That Nick Green AB you reference was the single most blatant occurence I have ever witnessed of an umpire attempting to fix/control the outcome of a game.

It is amazing that we won anyways! What should have been a called third strike to Green TO END THE GAME was instead called a ball! It was a fastball RIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE. There could not have been a better strike. A fastball right down the middle of the plate.

That was no “blown call” or “mistake.” It was blatant impropriety. And it was clear as day.
