Shohei Ohtani was not shut down and instead was on the mound today and at the plate as the two way super star was doing his thing. He went 8 innings, allowing just 2 runs, and had 10 strikeouts. ND.
Jeff was able to go to this one and see Ohtani (and took the photo).
Recap
Ace Ohtani, offensive offense
The Shohei experience started well with a quick first inning with 2 K and only 9 pitches. He then got a 1 out walk but that went nowhere.
Ohtani did well again in the 2nd, though he allowed a hit, he didn’t allow a run. The offense on the other hand was not able to do anything g in the bottom half. Still scoreless after 2.
In the 3rd, things did not go well, as Ohtani gave up a leadoff home run to Yan Gomes. Marsh had a 2 out double and Ohtani was ibb-ed to put 2 on for Gosselin. He struck out. 1-0 A’s after 1.
Matt Chapman hit a home run off Ohtani in the 4th for the A’s second of the day. Rojas walked as the only action in the bottom of the inning. 2-0 A’s after 4.
A quick top of the 5th inning was much needed for Ohtani. Not that the mattered much as the offense did squat again. Still 2-0 A’s after 5.
Just a single by the A’s in the 6th, and with a gidp, Ohtani was able to get through it easy. But, again, the Angels failed to do anything in the bottom of the inning. Still 2-0 A’s.
The 7th was another quick inning for Ohtani. Besides a couple of pitches, he looked as dominant at home as ever. It was being wasted as the offense was offensive. Still 2-0 A’s.
Ohtani was out there for the 8th. He was wild, walking 2 and hitting a batter to load the bases with 1 out. He got out of it, showing a gutsy performance. And yet the offense, including Ohtani, did nothing again. Still having just a total of 1 hit on the day. Still 2-0 A’s.
Not even a complete game
Cishek came in for the 9th, depriving Ohtani of a complete game. Steve couldn’t even get through the 9th, putting 2 on with 1 out. Quijada was put in, showing how much Maddon is giving up. Somehow, it was still 2-0 A’s going into the bottom of the 9th as he got out of the jam.
Gosselin lead of the 9th with a double, just the second hit of the game for the Angels. Walsh hit a single to put runners on the corners. Rengifo grounded out, but it wasn’t a gidp. Rojas came through and drove in 2! TIED GAME!
Brand new game
Lagares pinch ran for Rojas. For some reason. Stassi struck out for out 2. Mayfield did as well. Going into extras now, 2-2.
D-Cell was in now in the 10th. The Manfred runner scored, but it was the only damage. 3-2 A’s going into the bottom of the 10th.
Mayfield was at second and was thrown out on a Fletcher groundout. Marsh grounded out but beat the throw to keep the game alone. 2 out, Marsh on first. Wong hit for the pitcher and flew out. Angels lost in extras.
Upcoming
As the season winds down it is Houston coming to Anaheim up next. Joy… At least it will be the last time. Please drink responsibly.
Perry’s ex NJB coach got a promotion to a V.P. position with KC. He seems like he genuinely enjoyed his time here. Maybe he helped with the 20 for 20 draft in 2021?
https://twitter.com/RoyalBlue4Life/status/1439672209350537226
Perry continues to get violated over and over again by his rival GM. He needs to come out and call Billy beane his daddy. How do you get demolished by the same organization with no plan no adjustments. There is nothing analytical but Perry. Better of keeping Sosh and Reagins.
Tank flat track races! We’re tangling with the Mets, Rockies and Tigers.
I asked for 1 run they gave me 2. Great day. Nice work, Shohei.
😂😇😋😎👎
Shohei was great today, who said he was gassed?
He can pitch, but…
Can he Homer?
A bunch of gass-holes 😂
With the Rockies surging and the Tigers, yes the Tigers, now 0.5 games back of the Angels, Perry’s Tank is on course for a top 10 draft pick once again. With Sgt. Madden as the Commander, his sketchy moves have purpose. Keon Wong…GMAFB.
I really can’t believe the Angels have given so many abs to players that should never be playing MLB. Don’t have to name names but man. Guys with like 400 something OPS……. It’d be something if they were young or had tools that maybe they could breakout. But they are literally the smallest guys in MLB whose upside is well at least they didn’t embarrass themselves for a 2 week stretch. Thanks Arte!
I can’t believe how overrated David Fletcher is.
Aside from a mid-season hot streak, abysmal.
He was fine when he wasn’t trying to place every hit in rf.
I think the line up is abysmal enough it messes with everyone a little. I expect Fletcher to be better next year.
Baserunner on second to start extras is just wrong.
This is going away. The home team, not called the Angels, have the advantage of the same rule.
Good point. Did any of Manfred’s pace of play changes really affect the length of ballgames?
No. Manfred is a dunce.
Mayfield wtf man…
Fans need to boycott this team the rest of the season. Not one fan should show up at the stadium. Make Moreno go broke so he will be forced to sell.
Are you ever happy?
Oh I am happy just not with the Angels right now.
I’m boycotting bradllee424 and waiting until bradllee425 emerges.
You’re about 5 years too late…
Yes, Moreno has been allowed to get away with putting an inferior product on the field for far too long.
uh huh thats why the Angels had the best regular season record in baseball in 2014. I’m sticking with 5 years. Thx
That team was on it’s last leg…..LOL!!
Jered Weaver, Huston Street, David Friese, Howie Kendrick, Jason Grilli, CJ Wilson…..Oh and Matt Shoemaker was a young up and coming HOF 😆
You think we should give him a Gerritt Cole like deal?
Catastrophically bad payroll and player personnel management plus oh yeah never mind about the farm system. He is a bad owner and quit defending him from my criticism or others just to be a Devil’s Advocate.
Moreno should have never been the owner of this team. He took a W.S. team and trashed it.
You mean the ‘WS Team” that wasn’t even able to play .500 the next season? That “WS Team” ? I’m sure Vlad would have been a Dodger in your world.
It’s not that Arte is a good owner. It’s that the thoughts that come out of your head regarding Arte’s meh ownership are so mentally limp.
Yah. If Only the Angels had way less money to pay players with. That would be awesome.
I’d be fine with a depth chart of Trout, Upton, Lugares, Marsh, Adell.
Whatchu got against “the ‘Nard?” Silver Strand yo
Well Marte & Pin Cushion Canha will be free agents next year and the A’ss don’t get roid boy Laureano back until about the middle of next May so it looks like Billy Beane will be looking for outfield help this winter unless you think that Skye Bolt, Luis Barrera or Seth Brown are the answer.
Unless you are thinking of trading Upton (despite the salary and NTC), I don’t know why this matters. We don’t have extra OF players – so trading from Adell/Marsh leaves more holes in the lineup.
The A’s playoff run is probably over or close to it.
BB knows and accepts that every 4 or 5 yrs that he has to rebuild.
And he does.
YEAH! You tell em Steve Dave! Can I feel your biceps?
I know that today’s PAID attendance was less than 23,000 and the actual butts in seats eating hot dogs and buying little bats was way lower than that. I’m sure the FO knows that the Gosselin/Rojas/Mayfield line up isn’t making the team much money. My bet is that they aren’t going to trot out the same guys on opening day next year. Just a hunch.
But hey, there are some special wankers that have to tell you that it’s hot all day every time there is a hot day. Just like the guy in the car with you who keeps talking about “this traffic” when you’re stuck in traffic together. Where would we be without them?
Dammit I should move to Barstow!! 😠
Don’t move to Barstow. I’m afraid you’ll end up in a ditch out off Camp Rock Rd. Some savages in Barstow…. but also premium outlets.
You don’t have to listen to Gitcho, 2002. Do you need help with the busfare?
4-15 against the A’s this season. I’ve read somewhere that’s pretty bad.
I’m perplexed on how we got 4 wins
I’m just perplexed. But somebody said I’m hyperbaric. Love oxygen. Good for the brain.
Probably all drunk the night before just like Babe Ruth.
the Angels mustered only 38 earned runs against the A’ss this year in 170 innings they’ve played and scored in only 25 of those 170 innings. We’re PAthetics against Athletics.
Absolutely awful!
