Patrick Sandoval suffered a back injury and had to be placed on the IL Wednesday, the Angels PR team said.
Sandoval, 24, pitched 4.2 innings, throwing 83 pitches, in his most recent start on Friday, August 13 against the Houston Astros.
He had been a bright spot this season on a quickly-depleting young Angels rotation core. In 87 innings, he pitched to the tune of a 3.62 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP and was a top pitcher in preventing hard contact and getting whiffs.
José Quintana will start for the Angels tomorrow.
Funny … You’re talking post game here while many are talking Sandoval injury in the post game thread. “YOU’RE CROSSING THE STREAMS!”
Ha shit had the wrong thread up while watching replays.
Meh … I do that alls the times.
Unreal, the injuries.
We’ve already been blessed with the unveiling of Sandoval. pencil his name as one of the core starters next year. This is not bad news.
Now I’m worried about Ohtani and Cobb – the three of them have been carrying the pitching staff all season.
The new TJS…….Spinal

I’m sure this won’t ever become a chronic problem..trAdition….CRod, Griff and Sandy with back issues. Scrap that plan for next year.
How long does a stress fracture in spine take to heal?
It’s a broken bone – it needs rest to heal. This means no sport or bending/twisting movements for around 3 months on average. It means avoiding any activities that cause pain until the pain resolves, and it means limiting physical activity beyond routine daily tasks.
Dr Nick Google
“The most common symptom with a stress fracture or slip is lower back pain brought on by overuse during their activity or sport,” says Dr. Saldana. “Often, the pain decreases after they’ve rested for a period of time. But usually pain from a stress fracture doesn’t go away after a couple of days of rest.
Where are you seeing the word FRACTURE? That’s not what they are saying that I can tell. Honestly I’d prefer them say that. If it’s another type of spinal injury it could be way more recurrent.
It’s less serious than a fracture, but it is still going to end his season. Compare:

Ah. Good. Well, goodish. I was afraid “stress reaction” could mean an injury to bone or muscle or disk or tendon or nerves… some stuff that never heals right, etc. That would be so Angels.
My interpretation is, closer to micro fractures, which are fractures, just micro.
from Dr Nick at Wikipedia
The stress fracture of the pars interarticularis occurs on the side opposite to activity. For instance, for a right-handed player, the fracture occurs on the left side of the vertebrae.[6]
Spondylolysis has a higher occurrence in the following activities:[6]
What is Gridiron Football? That sounds bad ass! Screw the NFL season, when do they play.
I think you actually know what Gridiron Football is, but just in case:
Gridiron Football = American Football
Rugby Football = Rugby
Association Football = Soccer (it was called “Assoc” by the English, which then turned to soccer, paralleling the term “Rugger” for rugby.”)
Because of course
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
Well, at least Maddon said “I have no idea how long this will take to heal, could be the rest of the season” instead of “tiz but a scratch!”.
Are we all happy now?
….and all the more reason to think he’ll only miss a start or two………Or, assume we won’t see him until 2023.
Oh, shit. You know who the first pitcher that Joe is going to use in a high leverage situation will be.
I actually mouthed the word “oh gawd!” when I saw the transactions. I might even have whispered that.
