No news is good news. Unfortunately there’s news. We don’t have Anthony Rendon to kick around anymore, at least not for this year. There are still plenty of other guys to complain about, though.
Mike Trout now has ten years of service time. That already makes him one of the few. He is likely to go farther than that, no matter how frustrating this season may be.
COVID-19 Links
Unfortunately there’s news.
Both Gerrit Cole and Jordan Montgomery tested positive for COVID-19. It looks like Andrew Heaney will get plenty more chances to start ball games for the Yankees.
Red Sox closer Matt Barnes just went on the COVID IL as well. He didn’t test positive. He’s just sick.
The Brewers have three guys on the COVID IL right now. It really seems to be going around.
Links From Around Baseball
Ha ha! Cleveland stole their new team name from a roller derby team. They are even from Cleveland. I’d buy some of their merchandise to troll Cleveland, but it doesn’t come in red and I don’t think your run of the mill Angels fan would get the joke.
The Dodgers signed Cole Hamels. The Angels attended his showcase but they obviously decided to go a different way.
Khris Davis is back with the Athletics, who have a minor league deal with him.
Yuli Gurriel was scratched from Tuesday night’s game with neck stiffness. Maybe he just didn’t want people throwing stuff at him.
Brusdar Graterol is back up with the Dodgers big league team.
Something you don’t see every day is a “catcher’s balk.” I saw one happen in a Dodgers game back when Lasorda was still managing. I guess Casali didn’t get the memo about catching the ball in your mask.
Instead of death threats, Jay Jackson just gets a bunch of racism and abuse. Before we jump to make negative comments about a player’s mental attitude we should always take a moment to think about what these guys are going through at the hands of all the internet tough guys out there.
The Rangers placed David Dahl on unconditional release waivers. I seriously doubt the Angels will claim him now that Marsh and Adell are both up to the big league team.

Halos just posted on their Facebook about pride night at the stadium (8/12). Man it sucks to see in the comments how bigoted some Halo fans are
Is this the first such event for the Angels?
no clue, but they’re giving out a hat with a rainbow bill.
Nice
Hold up. IF it’s the same as the past. … none of these special issue caps are giveaways. I got a cultural one once but we had to buy special tickets for it at full pricing (!!!) when people sitting next to me got the same seats at like 20% of what I paid – but they didn’t get a hat. You aren’t getting it if you already have tickets for that night – you usually have to buy a separate package.
I was thinking the same thing if you were talking about the Filipino, or Polish, type nights they had a few seasons ago. They were sponsored by the groups themselves.
I just looked at the post again and you are correct. It states “purchase a pride night ticket package and receive a themed hat”
Yep them small groups need the donations for the give aways. It’s more like a group get together with everyone invited.
Bundy today. I bet he throws a gem
I’m thinking more of a cheap imitation made of glass
I’d take Cubic zirconia if it would get us the win.
Jo, will go, deep..
What else are you calling? Winning numbers? A World Series? Players return ahead of schedule from IL in top shape?
season ending quadruple bypass surgery scheduled for next Monday?

It’s the same old story
Same old song and dance, my friend

A day in 2023 you say?
Yes, scheduled for Monday after Maddon tells the press on Sunday that: “Walshy is doing great. He’s playing at full speed in the wiffle-ball league and looks to be fully healed”
That would be the amputation that’s scheduled for Monday, right?
This is the best candidate to be called up?
5.34 ERA and 1.60 WHIP, .375 BABIP, 3.6 K/BB ratio.
Why yes it is . trAdition!
Has MFY DFA’ed Heaney yet…Perry scored on that deal!
Yep. We got a couple of promising young pitchers (not lottery tickets !!).
I predict that Khris Davis will have a .247 average with the A’ss.
Scherzer dominated the Trashstros last night. I love Scherzer. I know he’s old, but I would be pumped if the Angels figured out how to sign him this offseason.
With all the recently acquired young pitching we still need a veteran #1 or #2.
That kind of an Ace would compliment Ohtani and guide the rest of the group.
Because Bauer has probably pitched his last game with the Dodgers I think they will do everything they can to keep Scherzer. And they’ll probably succeed.
Nope. If Arte is truly committed to winning and offers Max a few million more than the Doyers he will automatically sign here. It’s a fact. I have spent years learning how pitchers think in free agency via internet comments.
If Perry offers Max a huge contract offer today, he can be ours. Gotta do it before the Dodgers do, tampering be damned!
Pure silliness. Let’s play this forward: Max signs after dinner at Applebee’s with Arte and Perry. He comes to spring training and is exceptional. A week before the season starts, it’s reported that he’s feeling “tightness in his forearm”. Maddon publicly states “Scherzy is feeling good, he just needs a couple days of rest”. “Scherzy” is the opening day starter. He’s blown through the first three innings having thrown 28 pitches and striking out the side in each inning. In the 4th inning, his velocity goes from 97mph to 89mph. He’s taken out of the game as a precautionary measure, and is scheduled for an MRI. A few days later, the results of the MRI are announced as “inconclusive”. “Scherzy” gets a second and third opinion. Maddon tells Heyman that “Scherzy is a warrior and just has a tired arm. He’ll be back in a week or so.” He’s put on the 15 day IR effective April 25th. Maddon tells the press after the Angels 10th straight one-run defeat that “Scherzy is progressing and he should begin a rehab assignment next week”. On May 30th, he’s moved to the 60-day IR. On June 23rd it’s announced he’s having TJS and is contemplating retirement.
So where’s the part about his dehydration & flu like symptoms?
Nah, that was Trout in 2012, and one of the few time the FO told us the truth.
Angels should start eyeing proven utility types that can play 3B/2B/OF
If we mean business next year you need to have more than Mayfield behind Rendon.
Josh Harrison?
I think our options are internal. Its Mayfield so it maybe infield or outfield . But Why not also convert the plumber into a super utility fixer who can play every where in the field?
Team USA just punched their ticket to the Gold Medal game Saturday vs Japan.
That game will be tape-delayed on USA Network…unknown time but 3am live.
espn.com is the only thing I have found for live with out paying or an email.

Mike Trout gets that gold lifetime mlb pass now, or is that after 8 years??
It’s ten. He gets all the trimmings now.
He should walk, limp, into Mr. Moreno’s office and tell Arte that he demands a trade. “I know mah rights.”
10-and-5 Rights
Arte would never know, and then agree to do anything to make Trout happy. Fix the org, and spend some money, real money, on development and flags.
“real money, on development”
And then Arte wakes up.
“real money, on development”
And then Arte wakes up, and asks Trout if he could borrow $100M interest free.
