Reid Detmers to make Major League debut Sunday

Edit: The Angels announced Friday afternoon that top pitching prospect Reid Detmers would make his Major League debut Sunday against the Oakland A’s.

Detmers, 22, was drafted in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft by the Angels. At the time, he was advertised as someone who with impeccable command, plus plus curveball, and a fastball that sat in the lower 90s. In the year since he’s been drafted, he’s added velocity and has touched 97 mph at times.

This year, Detmers pitched 54 innings in Double-A Rocket City, compiling a 3.50 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP. He made one start in Triple-A Salt Lake, pitching six scoreless innings, striking out nine.

According to MLB.com, Detmers is the team’s #2 prospect, behind Brandon Marsh. We will see if this is a one-time start or if he sticks in the rotation.

Maybe teams (including the Angels) knew something. This just in.

It’s unfortunate that he’s coming out of our system. Even if he throws a no hitter for the next six years he will still not be any good because this system has no “real” prospects.

I like Perry more and more. Love this move. Get something for Heaney, but potentially replace with an equal or better, and gain two legit prospects.

and yet the yankees need pitching themselves.

Well, good luck with that Yankees. He made his debut in 2014 and his career WAR is a whopping 6.3. His ERA over 5 this year. I’ll take the prospects and my chance with Detmers.

This script has been written before. If you don’t intend to resign a player and are not in contention, sell that player off. Eppler did this and so did his predecessor. The question is, should Perry have had done this with a couple of more arms?

Baptism by fire. Pitch your game Detmers, and you should be fine.

Isn’t every debut baptism by fire?

Why the fuck is he fielding balls in the dugout for?
He is supposed to get our of the way, or have Pipe take a bullet for him.

No glove, no touch ballz.

It came off Eaton’s bat so he thought it was trash and wanted to pick it up/clean up the area.

Pipe. His new name. When I use that you’ll know who I mean.

I wouldn’t mind one bit if he started Monday’s game instead. Actually, that would make me quite happy.

Yeah, I know you are going.

But unfortunately I care more about the Angels splitting the Oakland series than you being able to see Ohtani pitch.

I get it, but they’re not making the playoffs.

Yes, and inevitably the player in question misses a game or games against a good opponent where we would really need him, then comes back against a weaker opponent, lol…

We need to figure out how Arte is causing this.

Congrats to Detmers, based on what he’s been doing, he’s well prepared to stick.

I’m looking forward to seeing him.

Tough first opponent though….

Unpopular Opinion: I don’t think he’s quite ready. Major League hitters are going to expose his propensity for giving up HRs
