Nelson Cruz’s pants no match for the Angels

Angels 3 Twins 2

Having scored just 1 run over their past 2 games, the Angels really outdid themselves with 3 runs in the Twins series opener. That’s TRIPLE what they scored over the previous 18 innings. Good, right??

Kenta Maeda and Twins pitchers proved to be a challenge for much of the lineup, including Ohtani, Upton, and Marsh who overall went 0 for 12 with 6 combined strikeouts, including an Ohtani hat trick.

No matter, because Andrew Heaney pitched an excellent game, holding the Twins to just 2 runs over 7 innings of work. It’s hard for the bullpen to blow things when only give them 6 outs to do it. I know, I know. Challenge accepted, right? Not tonight!

The Angels only needed one small rally to pull this one off and a well timed home run by noted slugger Jack Mayfield.

Jack with the 3-run Jack!

Nelson Cruz hasn’t quite been an Angels killer over his career, but with 50 total home runs he sure has made a dent. The Twins did the Angels a solid by sending the 41 year old slugger to Tampa before this series which certainly didn’t hurt. Not even his pants could hurt them tonight.

In 33 games this year, the Angels have only won 3 of them when scoring 3 runs or less. Threes are wild I guess and the Angels take the V in game 1.

It sure does make a difference when you have real OF’ers playing the OF

So what real outfielder will play RF against a LHP? Sog said that Eaton will be platooned but looking at the bench that leaves a right fielder of either Gosselin or Rengifo. From a defensive standpoint neither option seems very appealing.

That platoon was with Ward, so maybe the platoon went to AAA with Ward

To recognize it. Sometimes it is tough to admit your success is due to yourself, and only you, after thanking everyone and your brother beforehand. Because when you don’t, for some reason not depending on everyone, you’re a douche.

Doyers got screwed by the umps tonight. The pain and anger they felt made me very happy.

The Hector Yanster with a complete game 3 hitter for Tri City tonight. His only real blemish was giving up a solo shot. He struck out 7 while walking only 2 ( which has been his achilles heal) Ever since he was invited to the futures game the guy is starting to show better control and domination.

Yet another reminder not to get too hung up on farm rankings… the 2021 Twins. These guys were #2 in 2015, I thought they’d dominate their division for a long time annnndd… window closed. Even worse, 2016’s #3 ranked system…. your Colorado Rockies.

I will really enjoy it if the Angels manage to get their act together and build a sweet farm, but man there are a ton of teams with great pipelines to nowhere.

Man, roids or no, Nelson Cruz is a big man. Sano is big and he looks like Cruz’s little brother…. Cruz’s arms are like legs. Total Kick Puncher.

Heaney pitched deep into the game but they barely beat the Cruz less Twins. The bats really need to wake up.

β€œSome really introspective and insightful stuff from Andrew Heaney postgame tonight”

Definitely think we should circle back in a start, or three, and review Heaney’s newfound enlightenment.

Jack Harris, meet Icy Hot…….Icy Hot, this is Jack.

Hot Heaney. Tonight’s Panther!

What odds would you all have given me if I had bet Mayfield 3-run HR for Angels only runs and a win.

50-1?

1000-1. I still wouldn’t bet that.

If Angels score exactly 3 ~ 20%, Twins score <3 ~ 20%, we’re already at around 25-1 that Angels score exactly 3 and win. Factor in that JACK MAYFIELD is the guy, and we’re probably somewhere around 250-1 perhaps

The Angels have now scored in only 2 of the last 27 innings. But a win is definitely a win

If it wasn’t for Jackie’s Mayfield’s not pillaged from Jerry’s Mariners and clogging up that 40 man rosterspot…it would 1 of 27.

PotG = Eaton

Not only did he nail Polanco, but he made Kepler think twice about taking the extra base, setting up the inning-ending DP.

if P stands for Play. I’d give Heaney the Player otG. Then Mayfield but that Eaton play was key. Thanks Mayers! Good luck in 2022.

I loved Christie calling the homer a Mayfly. Is that a thing?

In other news, Detroit has a 7 game winning streak. Goldang it! If they can do it, we can do it!

If it isn’t it should be. I wonder how many more Mayflies we’ll see this summer.
