Due to the limited travel in 2020, this week makes the first real East Coast swing for the Angels since 2019. Two stops along the way with no rest day then home for Baltimore.
Our most famous East Coaster is Mike Trout but it has been a week since his last medical update. The silence, combined with the Angels medical staff, is concerning.
Not being on the field doesn’t stop Mike from bringing people joy, though. A lady found an autographed Mike Trout rookie card in a storage unit. Estimated value is $10,000.
Having a few decent trade chips and a record below .500 makes you wonder. Will the Angels be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?
The Angels first stop on this trip is Tampa Bay where wunderkid Wander Franco is already impressing fans and players.
As if Oakland needed to get better, Chris Bassit has a new, more effective pitch.
Both Oakland and the Angels are eyeing new stadiums in the foreseeable future. But does the sale of the Big A to Arte Moreno violate a state law? Considering we have about 8 billion laws everything probably violates one. But this is definitely worth monitoring.
If you’ve watched Vanderbilt in the College World Series you’ve had a treat. Last weekend’s game vs. Arizona was incredible and just Wednesday the Commodores had a dramatic win to save their season.
Sorry the links aren’t longer but business is picking up and I’m gasping for air. Enjoy all the baseball this weekend (and what should be an entertaining fight on ESPN Saturday night) and let me know what I missed.
The Rocket City website is excellent. Check out the incredible amount of info!

Same Old bullshit. Which pitcher will be playing leftfield tonight?
https://twitter.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1408551293803810819
Back into the freezer Hot Pocket goes.
That is now two games out of the last three that were arguably lost because of poor OF defense. You need to at least have replacements who are defensively competent. That is the least we expect — not to give the opposition free runs!!!
Yes, and that is where the money comes from, incompetence.
As an Angel fan, I’m feeling much worse as soon as I get to the ballpark
10.5 games out of first…
We’ve got them right where we want them.
Ye olde Cinderella story
did you get a mlb all star game ticket mia?
https://twitter.com/JeffFletcherOCR/status/1408515986853138442?s=20
I’m so angry. How could a team that has this much talent be 10.5 games back of the A’s? I am flummoxed and exasperated. grrrrr.
When you say talent, you clearly referring to our training staff right?
Astros have become frightening and have way more lumber than the As. The squirt Bregman is out and they are still rolling.
I think you meant cheatingratbastardsetranllydamnedtohell.
That’s exactly what I meant.
#etranlly? Does that identify as He/Him or She/Her?
Ze/Zir.
Don’t watch.
I guess Kumar Rocker won’t fall to #9. Through 3 shutout innings he’s whiffed 8.
although, on further review, NC State has covid issues, is playing with a reduced squad with several subs playing today so they’re not at full strength.
Ty Maddon should go today for Texas. Don’t let the final score from last night fool you, that was another great game to the end.
Joe’s kid can pitch?
There’s a good chance he falls, has not been overly impressive.
You mean like Griffin Canning in 2017?
Other than his strike out ratio, his WHIP and ERA are terrible. We used to be pretty good at getting pitchers past the first round ( John Lackey 2nd rd, Mike Witt 4th rd, Chuck Finley 4th rd ) 😪 😣 👎
Well All Star voting in over for part one. I wonder if Trouty not playing hurt his chances of making the next round . we know that Ohtani is going to make it one way or another. So that leaves Fletcher and Walsh to be named to the AL squad. I think Fletch watches on TV like us (Sans Mia if she bought her tix.) With having only a so-so team and having 3 reps that sounds pretty good. I voted for JUp but I don’t really believe that he will make it.
I voted for Mullins in Balt. and for Trouty. In the NL I gave all my 2b votes to Frazier (Pitts.) with Tatis Jr. at SS, 3b was Arenado because he plays everyday at 3rd, Bryant is a Super utility guy imho. Outfield was easy in 2 spots with Castellano and Winkler from Cinn. Added Acuna from Atl. The toughest vote was for NL 1b and Freeman worked for me. At C’er I went with Posey and Perez.
I did give Upton votes when I left Mullins off, for me a tough call as I wanted to remain loyal, but then I thought that the best should go. If that is true then why did I everyday vote Fletch and Walsh then?
Rendon should have been gathering my votes, but the injuries and lackadaisical play just did not persuade me enough.
Where did you put your Fans Voting ck mark?
4pm from the West Coast of Florida, in maybe the worst stadium in the Major Leagues that maybe in a tie with Oakland.
No Hitters are falling from the sky this season. Will we be involved in any?
Yes, but on the wrong side of the no hitter.
Sell Sell Sell SELL…
Agree. But have also said that for years.
Reisel and Heaney are obvious pieces to move.
I’m dreading next off-season. Spotrac shows the following signed (at this time) for 2022. Trout, Rendon, Upton, Fletcher, Ohtani. A total of $111mil. With Arte’s desire to keep costs level that would give us about $70mil for the entire rest of the team. Look at that pitching staff! Ohtani. And that’s it.
We’ll have some arbs and some pre-arb players but still, I don’t see us having any money to sign any big free agents. Maybe we shouldn’t. Maybe we should hire some scouts and build the farm.
Hard to comprehend the truth that $70mil won’t get us much….Needing to purchase/remake almost an entire bullpen and half of starting staff doesn’t leave room for anything else. We can fill RF with from within, SS not as easy unless we move Fletcher.
Hate being negative, what you see now will likely be be the same next year.
Only hope is we get lucking in rebuilding our BP and find a quality SP for cheap.
“F”it..I’ll be negative, we suck and any improvement next year won’t be enough to jump ahead of A’ss or Asstros, .500 baseball.
Continuing with the negative, 2-5 road trip. Sense another reverting back to the fetal position and thumb sucking while we suck on the field. Multiple pitching melt downs and a sleepwalking offense excluding the occasional HR and small offensive spasm. The more offense we display the worse the pitching and vise-versa and multiple late inning collapses….
Boooooooo negativity!
We desperately need Detmers to click and for a couple of the bullpen arms in AA to be legit.
Ohtani, Detmers, Canning, Sandoval would be the core as of now. I have no idea where C Rod fits in. Barria, Suarez, Slegers will still be around.
Until we start producing our own pitching, we will be left to pick over the pile of meh year after year and patch too many holes with too few dollars.
We will have a chance for a low dollar, yet effective, SS. Iglesias has been above average with the stick. Has made some rough errors but overall, as good or better as Simba. We don’t need a megastar at short.
Yes we definitely need more Packy Naughtons, Gerado Reyes’s and Franklin Barrettos.
Packy and Barrett, SMH. Those two trades were Eppler mulligans but only cost us LaStella and Goodwin. Guys that did not move the needle.
Don’t sweat it JJ. You always make us search for our own links when things get busy.
Keep up the good work, mahalo mah fren.
Thanks.
He did a great job for me !!
Thanks for saying that and for your business. I appreciate both.
I don’t know about the rest of you but to me the news of the “need” for a new stadium has sure gotten very quiet since Arte got ownership of the Big A. Suddenly the stadium seems to fit the need, unlike when the taxpayers were being asked to pay for a billion dollar project.
Could be the less heard the better as the State wants to say the deal is illegal on the part of Anaheim. Trying to keep it on the down low.
Arte had offered to do a $350 million retrofit of the stadium with his own money in exchange for a sweetheart deal on the lease. Taxpayers weren’t asked to build a new ballpark.
The sale deal clearly stated the team would do a comprehensive review of the ballpark to see if a complete remodel or new stadium would be the next step. The review was expected to take several months. I expected silence until the holidays at least.
Which Holidays?, Christmas or earlier, say 4th of July?. Like everything with the Angels nothing is ever said until they have to.
The holiday is when “Shufflebot” makes his next appearance………..
So, not on this road trip and not anytime soon.
2 days off for the Angels this week meant I finally bite the bullet and got a VPN. Got to watch San Diego sweep the Dodgers (with a game/series ending Pujols DP) then just got to watch them get no hit by the Cubbies (with a Pujols 0fer). That was enjoyable baseball.
Looking forward to watching Angels tonight but with the radio broadcast (mlb tv black out restrictions no more).
Champs, tell me more about the VPN. Wanting to dump Spectrum.
i just posted on the game thread but its pretty difficult (more steps) with mlb tv. I use nord vpn with a firestick, have to uninstall then reinstall MLB tv app each day (so far) then select my VPN city choice on Nord, log into MLB tv then I can watch Angels games with 830am broadcast (don’t have to listen to sutton) along with padres and dodger games now that other sports are over.
let me know if you need something else than that
Imho I believe that the Goose should be receiving more PT, say in RF maybe.
Shows the state of the roster when we are parading that Goose needs more playing time. And I agree with you GPB.
God Morning Angels Fans, being that my coffee makes me bright eyed and bushy tailed I’ll say it again for the first time today, Go Angels! Let’s whoop up on the MFY! Many here have nothing good to say about the Doyers, well that is how my feelings for the Yankees.
New, New York start spreading the news the Angels are in town and you’re going down.
I hope so. Go Angels!
A God Morning to you too, Grandpa!
We are playing the Rays
Yes, why yes we are. Nice start to a road trip that includes the MFY I believe. I may be wrong though, as my schedule only says NY. lol
We play the Yanks on Monday
Hear, hear!
Let’s not forget to play well against TB before we get to NY.
Already forgotten. 😒
