LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: Discount Double Q

Good Morning Angels fans. How are you today? Have your links with a balanced breakfast!

Angels News

The Angels lose badly. Shutout at home. Ow. Oh and Justin Upton hurt himself. Again.

Quintana and Quijada are both called up, so double the Q now. Both in the bullpen.

Perry continues to gather arms with Lefty Brain Johnson from the independent league Milkmen. Former first round pick, looked good this year.

Jared Walsh got mic-ed up. Glad to see the Youtube channel update again.

At least the arms on the farm are growing nicely. Not just the known ones either.

So someone found out each teams worst position player and on the Angels it is Rendon. Ow.

Not a good look

But hey, Ohtani is on the mound today, and he has his high school checklist to thank for his success.

Around Baseball

Sticky stuff regulation is here and we got controversy already. Joe Girardi makes the umps check Max Scherzer multiple times after saying he won’t do that and then gets tossed for being a jackass.

Sergio Romo gets checked and pulls his pants down. Yeah, that is uh… one way to prove your innocence.

Joe Kelly is having fun with this though, showing his sunglasses to the umps to show off.

Kris Bryant calls out pitchers using control as an excuse to cheat. After all, HBP has not gone down in recent years.

The knuckleball is not dead! But he is on Baltimore.

A pitcher has been suspended 5 games for throwing at batters. Suspensions should be longer for pitchers.

Joey Votto got suspended 2 games for hurting the umps feelings. It got appealed down to 1.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.

Instead of Rendon, we could have Hunter Dozier at the hot corner- slashline .159/.226/.333 . Those are some sucktastic numbers.

What is an ideal Knuckle Ball spin rate? 1/2 a spin, 1/4, 1/3?
Long live the knuckl’er.

From Fangraphs:

The ideal knuckleball makes just 1 to 1.5 rotations (~150 RPM) between release and home plate, causing the drag on the ball to shift significantly mid-flight as the leading seam of the ball rotates slightly, resulting in unpredictable and uniquely sudden movement.

Sho should learn to throw the knuckle ball….he could master it.
Throw the knuckle and then 101…..

That link to the Scherzer video is absolutely hilarious. An ump rubbinhis fingers through Scherzer’s hair may be the best evah!!

Skeletor got tossed from the game, for what? Forcing the umps to continuously do stupid things?

Well he left the dugout and was calling out his former coach to fight. 🤣

Someone from the Angels needs to tell Pujols: “We’re having the most fun we’ve had in a while since you left the team.”

Honestly, I’m not really surprised. He probably didn’t feel very welcome here because a lot of fans recognized he was vastly underperforming compared to his salary. Since the Dodgers are paying him diddly-squat, there’s no pressure for him to be good and no fan ire when he sucks. I’d be happier if I was playing for a winning team with no pressure and more fan support, too.

It’s rather annoying, because Pujols probably still sees himself as the victim here, even though he now has the part-time role with the Dodgers that he complained about being relegated to with the Angels.

Also annoyingly, he’s hitting better for the Dodgers than he has since 2012.

Come on guys, Randon(sic) isn’t even the worst in the West, and there are still a few below him in WAR, but yes Tony is WORSY.

I’d like to see that list/graphic add salary to figure out the worstiest of all. Has to be Rendon I would think.

Miggy may be done as an impact player, but much like Betre – he sure has fun out there. That’s the difference between him and Albert – the joy in the game vs. the seeming focus on personal accomplishments.

If you listen to the Doyers broadcast, Albert is full of joy now. And so are teammates to have him. They politely claim, paraphrasing, happiest he’s been in years, came short of saying we sucked the life out of him.

He was at Sea World and the San Diego Zoo the last couple of days with his family. Honestly, he did look happy in the pics. Maybe the separation was good for both parties !

What a surprise! On a winning team with prospects of going to a WS!
I think I’d be happier as fan with a team like that too…..

It will be hard watching him in the playoffs. Thankfully it’s been long enough now, most of us have moved on and are just casual observers.

Such a shame about Rendon. If he could even contribute a little, it would be a huge bonus. Maybe he will find it in the 2nd half. Right now, he is beyond struggling. He is only 31 and this season is his worst in 9 by far. I think it’s an anomaly both in number of games played and performance. I still believe he will turn it around but WOW has he let everyone down this far when the Angels needed him the most (with Trout out).

It says something about Cleveland, the Twinkies, and the Rays when their *WORST* player has positive WAR.

Congrats RenDone! You’re #1! In Opposite World!

Winner of the Arte Award, for the dumbest contract that will never go away and prevent our dumber owner from acquiring the pitching we so desperately will never have…

I think it was JackFrost who said it, but Rendon just hasn’t looked “right” all season. Maybe he’s still injured, or maybe his offseason training regiment consisted of hoisting too many pints. From my view, he just doesn’t look “athletic”.

Whereas Albert was done, I believe there’s still hope for Rendon.

I can think of worse contracts. I can also think of players who have had 2.5 months of crappy play out of 9 All Star level seasons and then turned out to be pretty good still. Calm down.
