Quintana’s pitching rearranged in 6-1 loss to Rangers

Angels 1, Rangers 6

José Quintana entered this game having blown up his first two of three starts in Halo red, with an ERA of 9. That number grew against the Rangers with another lackluster performance, and the Angels were unable to muster much offense against opposing starter Mike Foltynewicz in Tuesday’s loss.

Quintana surrendered five earned runs across 3 1/3 innings, primarily dinger-based damage from newly anointed Angels killer Nick Solak and old foe Joey Gallo.

It wasn’t a good strike zone tonight, but it’s hard to complain when the Halos couldn’t get much going on either side of the ball. Mike Trout ripped a double and Justin Upton extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a knock up the middle, but there wasn’t much to get excited about. Ho-hum.

Until tomorrow…

This is on the front office. They are the definition of stupid. Change nothing, expect different results. Get same results instead. The Ångels way. It’s infuriating as a fan. But honestly, they deserve it.

Arte- you can keep firing and hiring new GMs. They aren’t the problem. You are. You and your cushy, buddy-buddy FO are the problem

We’re definitely gonna have a problem getting much above .500 with Q and Cobb in the rotation. Well, really, anyone other than Bundy.

Although his control is a problem, I can’t throw Ohtani in the Cobb-Q scrap heap.

I would definitely agree. Ohtani has started 3 games now. The Angels record in those 3 games is 3-0

1st things 1st yes pitching stinks. But we knew that already looking at the roster. We’re supposed to out hit people like yesterday….Sucks tho cuz I’m sure by the time we’re 12 GB Fletch will turn into pre contract Fletch and Rendon will hopefully be kinda worth all the $$.
Sad that we’re paying $75million this year for a .239 .222 and .257 Batting Avg…wash rinse repeat. I get it’s better to be positive but this has been the norm for 10 years now. Make a big splash and watch the money swirl down the toilet. Anyways on to the next…

Here’s the problem — take a look at a typical stretch of games for the Angeles: L, W, L, L, W, W, L,L, L, W, L, W,W,W, L, L, W, L……

It is hard to gain ground on a team like Oakland who goes on 10 game and 13 game wins streaks a couple of times a year when you never win more than three games in a row and frequently lose 3 out of five.

This team needs to go on like an 8 or 9 game win streak in order to put some distance between themselves and the Texas and Seattle’s of the world. Since the SP beyond Bundy and Ohtani is so poor the only way we can realistically do that is for Rendon to get hot and the entire offense to stay hot for like two weeks. It is possible, but it will require that both Ohtani and Trout keep up their current pace, which will be difficult.

Rendon will be fine, but he’s definitely blame of the game.

This is the GOOD lobster. Very different from the bad LOBster.

It’s still LOBster. Even with lots of Trout/Rendon/Ohtani butter poured all over it.

Friend was watching the Rangers broadcast and even they’re saying the Angels need to fix their pitching. Not an earth shattering observation but the &#!?ing enemy feels sorry for us.

DFA Quintana. DFA Cishek. They are both terrible. Verdict is still out on Cobb, Iglesias, and Claudio…

I think signing Cishek and Watson and Hoyt was a good gamble to take. Right now the gamble is .500. Watson is pitching real well. Hoyt’s ability remains to be seen but by his velocity, not expecting anything. Definitely DFA Cishek.

how about we actually fix our broken scouting and player development?
we’re the 8th highest revenue earning team in MLB (ahead of the Giants, Phillies., Mets, Braves, Nats and White Sox ) 😖
BTW the Royals are 14-9

Quin we end this experiment?

I was wondering if Quintana is experiencing lasting effects from the nerve damaged he suffered in his pitching hand last year. Maybe he still has some amount of lost feeling that is impacting his ability to feel and control the baseball?

Didn’t seem to be a problem in ST.

It’s ST, but you’d think he’d show something.

And Matt Harvey pitched decent in his last outing with the Orioles.

Quintana had a miserable 2019 and while he was with Cubs, he underwhelmed for the most part. As we don’t have a worthy replacement, his leash is longer and he is FOJ. But with opponents hitting over. 300 against him coupled with dishing out too many walks, not looking promising for turnaround. Looked good in the spring, lesser completion?
