LA Angels Wednesday News Crash: 4-2 Start

Good Morning Angels Fans! How is the season so far? Have some links!

Angels News

The Angels lost yesterday because the Astros cheated due to a collapse in the 9th. Still, Mike Trout homered and Bundy was excellent again, going toe to toe with Greinke.

A 4-2 start is pretty good to start the season, especially against the White Sox and Houston. It is the best start since 2018 when the Angels started 6-2.

Blue Jays and Royals are next starting Thursday. Canning will make his 2021 debut, and Ohtani may next pitch this weekend but it is still TBD.

Hey what has Soth been up to anyway? Well apparently, managing Team USA.

Fangraphs geeked out over Ohtani. Check out Effectively Wild if you haven’t already.

Or if you want to hear a more Angel voice, Brent Maguire has some words to say on Locked on Angels.

Around Baseball

Dusty Baker has some… odd things to say about the booing the Astros have been getting.

Tatis Jr. has a tear in his shoulder. It is possible he returns in 10 days but I wouldn’t be surprised if he misses more time.

Nationals officially put 10 on the COVID IL. A reminder, the pandemic is not over yet, no matter what the Rangers want you to think.

Odor is not retired, he is traded to the Yankees. But, why?

Brewers and Braves made a trade. Orlando Arcia for 2 relievers.

Potential Top 10 draft pick from LSU needs TJ. An Angel in the making.

Kevin Kiermaier was placed on the IL. Quad pain. Those really hurt.

Nike City connect Jerseys are almost here. I hope these do not turn out bad.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes.

I know a lot of us wanted Rosenthal but it looks like he might need thoracic outlet surgery, generally the death knell of a pitcher’s career.

tough break for Rosenthal and the A’s.

Link is available but definitely sucks for the kid. We’re not always the ones getting pitchers injured.

I’ve never been a big Dusty Baker fan. But let’s level, his asinine comments about the A**tros getting booed and other people throwing rocks from glass houses, and how “we paid for our mistakes.” Number one, you weren’t on those cheating teams. So you paid for nothing. Could this guy be more FOS? Who’s buying this 💩 ? Honestly Dusty, go bite a donkey.

No A**stros player was suspended, how exactly did they pay for their mistakes? Ooh, their GM and manager got fired. Big deal. They got to keep their ***title*** and with no player suspensions etc.

We don’t feel sorry for you. We hate you. We will boo your team. Everyone will. You got 2020 as a grace period because of no fans and Covid. People have not forgotten, and they never will.

Shut up Dusty, and take it like a man- you and all your stooges.

Here’s the fun part: right now only about 25% of stadiums are full. Just the die hards, really, and we booed the crap out of them.

By the next time the Asterisks roll into town we should be fully open. All those people who didn’t get a chance to boo them, all the Dodger fans who wanted to come down and razz them, will get their first shot at them.

This isn’t going to blow over by the All Star break. It will keep coming in waves. And Dusty being a crybaby is only going to encourage it.

They didn’t pay of anything. Even if they did we would boo.

Stassi was a cheater, but as a rookie I don’t hold him quite as a responsible as the veterans and stars on the team. Also, Stassi actually made something of a sincere apology: https://ktla.com/sports/angels-max-stassi-former-astros-catcher-apologizes-for-houston-teams-sign-stealing-scheme/

On the other hand, he hasn’t returned the ring or donated his playoff money to a charity.

Starting pitching is good like expected and BP is about what is expected, but “Fatboy” only has 2 HRs and not 10, huge disappointment. have fun today folks.

C Rod getting some love from The Athletic.

Multi inning relievers will be so key this year. If this kid can stay healthy, he could be a difference maker. Keeping games close, giving the team a chance to come back. Sometimes protecting a lead for the back end.

Wow, Odor’s contract really stinks. Did he sign that based on the 2016 season? Because Texas has not gotten nearly any value from him. No wonder they are cutting him loose.

What are the Yanks hoping for, a bit of power off the bench? He is more likely to K than anything. (And Estrada, who they sent down for Odor, was the better player in 2019).

Costs the Yanks essentially nothing monetarily (Major League minimum) and two fringey prospects. If they get anything out of Odor in the next two years – this is a win for the Skanks. It’s a low risk deal for an experienced player who may benefit from a change of scenery.

Oh, I get that it is cheap for the Yanks, but Odor hasn’t been good for a while (hence Texas letting him go). I just think it was a really bad contract for Texas – it isn’t just Arte that has handed out some 5 year deals that didn’t end up worth the money.

Ok so I admit I did not think Dylan Bundy was for real, but he’s doing it again this season. With his uptick in velocity, I’m wondering if he’s finally fully healthy. Also, it seems to me the Angels may have finally found some secret sauce as most of their guys are throwing it harder.

I’ve been a Heaney fan for a while, just waiting for him all these years to finally turn that corner and put all his talent together to “figure it out”. After watching his first start of this year, me thinks it’s just never going to happen. He may be physically talented, but I’m beginning to finally lean toward the idea that he just doesn’t have the mental fortitude to be a top starting pitcher. He’s rather average, and that’s not much to be excited about, sadly.

Losing to the Asstros is just not fun. While no loss is fun, it just stings more against the cheaters.

Angels went toe-to-toe with two of the best teams in the League and won 4 out of 6. That should improve your mood.

If I’m a Padres fan I’m terrified over how often Tatis gets hurt. Seems like it’s something new every time too.

Angels pre game: 6ft apart in line to get in Stadium.

Angels game: Sit in Social Distanced seats.

Angels post game after a win: Everybody gathered tightly together behind announcers Yelling and Cheering.

Do you think the LSU pitcher could fall to us in the 2nd round much like Canning did?

I like the thinking. Hopefully. Getting someone who just had TJ surgery might not be a bad thing

Jeff Joiner

I brought this up in our writer chat. Turk’s and Rahul basically said he’s a huge risk as TJ doesn’t fix everyone. That said a team with a supplemental or extra second round pick could reasonably take that risk. The Angels don’t have either so the risk would be substantial for us.
