Welcome to the March 6, 2021 Postgame article. Jose Quintana started for the Angels. Dereck Rodriguez started for the Rockies. At Designated Hitter we had Taylor Ward versus C.J. Cron. Jo Adell was back out in Right Field. Oh Yeah, Anthony Rendon was in the lineup. How did it go? Rendon didn’t do much. The final score was 8-2 Colorado.
The Good
Jose Quintana pitched a scoreless two innings with 4 strikeouts. Raisel Iglesias pitched the third inning. Three up, three down. Jo Adell reached three times, once on a homer, once on a walk, and once on an error. He made no defensive miscues that I can remember today. Davis Daniel pitched for the Angels in his professional debut and the inning was three up, three down. Not bad Kid! Jon Jay hit a stand up triple. Jake Faria pitched the fifth and retired all three batters he faced on strikeouts.
The Bad
Ben Rowen came in to replace Mike Mayers in the fourth and gave up a double, a single, a walk, and a sacrifice fly for three more runs, one of which was charged to Mayers. Luis Rengifo was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts. Franklin Barreto went 0 for 2. Gosselin was 0 for 2 with a strikeout. Denny Brady came in to pitch the top of the seventh and promptly gave up a homer to Connor Joe making it 8-2 Colorado.
The Ugly
Mike Mayers gave up four runs in the top of the fourth inning without recording a single out. In his defense he was hit by a sharp liner off the bat of C. J. Cron. He had already given up a homer to Chris Owings on his very first pitch, though. Oops! He also issued a four pitch walk right after the home run, and then a two run double by Fuentes after C.J. Cron hit him.
Of corse Odorizzi went to the Astoze.
Bekauze he stood to make 30M a yeer…….Heck hee wouldve payed Charles “Old Hoss” Radbourn that kind of munny let alone Jake Ordorizzi.
Bye!!!! Yep Arturo duznt wanna winn…….
Yep, the ball hit Adell’s bat today and went very far. He will look good in a Rocket City Trash Panda uniform this year, far away from the glare of the Anaheim light standards. Let’s hope Trash Panada Manager Jay Bell will get Jo to let the game come to him. Still looks so raw This spring and needs time.
Yeah Jo ain’t going to Rocket City. He’s already done the AA tour He’ll being making the trip to the Great Salt Lake
By the time a kid hits 14 you can tell if he will make the HS team, but every now and then a kid comes around later and is a late bloomer and that is usually because of bad coaching and bad habits like he thinks he knows more than the coach. I think it is both for Adell and it is hard to turn a 23 yr old into a hitter and fielder so I would be using Marsh more and spot use Adell. That is just me.
Today was all about Jo, Q and Raisel.
Odorizzi to Astros – he will likely do well there – I think the Angeks will regret not picking him up.
Saw that coming once Valdez went down.
Yep. Astros payroll now well north of $200m. Remember the days they were a small market team?
I don’t think i’d ever call Houston a small market, but I do remember when they spent much much less, absolutely.
I remember that for 40 yrs they could not draw even average amount of fans. But Houston is the nations third largest metro area in population so it would make sense that they draw good attendance. But the cheating will bite them in the arse.
With the Odor eater move, The Stros are back at a full 40 man roster (Assuming of course that Valdez goes on the 60 DL) .There maybe some interesting NRI candidates that may now come available. Steve Chisnek is a relief pitcher who had a couple of good years for the Cubbies under Maddon so stay tuned.
Adding Lagares , Junior Guerra or a pitcher like Chisnek, though, would require corresponding moves on the 40 man. I would think that Jose Quijada, Daniel Bard or even Matt Thaiss are prime targets for DFA land.
I remember when we used to be considered a big market team before 2010 and Arturo’s quest for a $5B net worth started…. :_(
Farria continues to look solid.
I really wonder if Mayers was working on something in game today. It didn’t work.
Lagares really should be the starting rf this year.
It’s early still, but Lagares and Rengifo are certainly making their cases of reserve OF and IF respectively.
Here’s a surprise. Almost two weeks into spring training, Jo Adell leads the team with 5 walks.
I noticed his OPS is north of 1.000, which is good (his BA not so much). The walks are impressive.
Would be great if he finally absorbed some of what Trout apparently was telling him last year about just waiting for *your* pitch. Simple but obvious advice for a guy who K’s as much as Adell.
Those that needed to look good looked good.
The rest will be forgotten. On to Seattle
Who thinks Serven Rabago sounds like something you would see on a restaurant sign?
Enjoyable game. Hopefully Mayers can get it together before the regular season.
Besides the 4th inning, it wasn’t a bad day.
The 8th and 9th innings weren’t bad for the Angels either.
