Mike Trout’s cutout goes wild when the Eagles score. Zachary D. Rymer thinks we could trade Brandon Marsh and Oliver Ortega for Zach Wheeler. There are still plenty of other pitchers the Angels can target, as noted in this article by Brent Maguire. This article concerns what current player for each team is a shoo-in for the Hall of Fame. The Angels, of course, have two obvious candidates.
Greg Holland signed a one year deal with the Royals. It is for $2.75 Million. The Rangers have re-signed pitcher Jimmy Herget. J. T. Realmuto has apparently been seeking a rather huge deal.
So we were one of the teams linked to Odorizzi.
Using the MLBTR value, it’s projected he would cost 3/39. I’m a bit skeptical he could command that coming off his current season, but perhaps he’d get a 2/26 with a vesting option for a 3rd year.
If we sign Odorizzi and trade for one of Gray or Snell, and combine that with a backup catcher + signing a corner OF, I’d be pretty content with that offseason.
Even if it’s “just” Gray, having a rotation of Gray, Bundy, Odorizzi, Heaney, Caning, Ohtani should be really solid.
You realize Schebler + Ward may well be the corner OF you keep saying they still need to sign right? They may add a scrap heap guy on top of that, but that might be it. If it comes down to a LH pen arm or another OF my bet is they spend on the pitcher…. or just about anything else.
Maybe Granderson is available?
A better option than Peterson!
For 4/58?
I’m sorry for the paltry number of links today. Nobody actually seems to be doing anything since that James McCann deal.
Could Jaden Hill or Jack Leiter drop to us in the Draft?
please leiter gimme gimme gimme
Zack Wheeler is not worth the value alone for either of our top 2 prospects, in other words he is vastly over the top rated. As for Realmuto, a 4 year 25mil per is maybe the limit and even that is too much for me.
Trading Marsh and paying 25M a year for four years (30-34) seems like a high mark. Wheeler had a great short season last year, and maybe figured some command things out, but that is still a small sample size to pay that much. I think Snell or Gray at their price points are more reasonable – and if we are trading March/Adell I wouldn’t want to also pay most of our pitching budget in the same transaction.
I wouldn’t want to commit 25M to the C position, especially as the years (4+?) would mean he probably breaks down at the end of the contract. We need a catcher, but not as our top priority (we need pitching much more).
DD is in win now mode. Trading Wheeler to land an unproven rookie does not fit his MO.
Yeah, they need reliable arms, I don’t see him trading Wheeler at all.
