Hall of Famer Joe Morgan has died at 77. The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Houston Astros in game 1 of the ALCS Sunday 2-1. The ALCS bracket, schedule, and odds are here. For those still following along, here is the mega-game thread. Rays-Astros game 2 starts at 1:07 PDT. The Dodgers will be hosting NLCS drive-in viewing parties in the parking lot to their stadium. What could go wrong?
The White Sox seem to be cleaning house. Rick Renteria is out as Manager. Pitching Coach Don Cooper is also gone, although semantically speaking he may not have been fired. As for the preferred candidates to replace Renteria, they are apparently looking at Alex Cora or A.J. Hinch. Ozzie Guillen is not in the running. Fangraphs thinks there is a good chance Kim Ha-seong, the 25 year old shortstop about to be posted by the Kiwoom Heroes, is going to get paid pretty big money.
MLB released the draft order. We’re ninth.

If this happened to me, the call would go out for Code Brown
I was informed of that place within days of moving to OC.
😂
R.I.P. Joe Morgan. I met him four times but only on the third and fourth times did he remember me. He was polite and pleasant it time. The first time I met him he was of all things an A’s player. I found his 22 year career as a broadcaster a lot of fun and full of insight.
Wow, the ChiSox are really tearing things up. They did a lot better than anybody expected, so this is kind of weird. A lot of the stuff about Joe Morgan is how he was becoming more appreciated for his broadcasting skills. I stopped taking him seriously when he was badmouthing Moneyball and it was painfully obvious he hadn’t read it. Kind of the last straw, although I was a devotee of Fire Joe Morgan for a long time, mostly because it was so well written.
It looks like the White Sox have decided to embrace the dark side. Alex Cora is emerging as a favorite to replace Renteria.
What did the White Sox expect, a World Series appearance.? Cora? It figures that those fools would be the ones being a cheater back as the team plays in the same Market as the Cubbies. Anything for attention.
“Moneyball the movie was a very good baseball movie.
The Indians, A’s and Dodgers did OK without Paul DePodesta.
Sabermetrics don’t amount to anything in scouting and player development or real time situational strategy. 💪 💪 😎 . Nice movie and book however.
Yep. All they had to do was pretty much ignore the existence of Zito, Hudson, and Mulder to make that narrative stick.
