LA Angels Weekend News Crash: One more week ’til Baseball

Happy Friday Angels fans! Hope you enjoy your day, almost to baseball season and soon the links will be filled with game news.

Angels News

It was a light day for Angels Camp yesterday. Since games start next week it seems the hitters are mostly ready.

Thaiss is back after getting the virus a month ago. That is good to have him back, scary that it took a month and he wasn’t even really sick.

The exhibition games next week will be televised. Get your cable back, or Hulu, or MLB.TV and a VPN!

Ohtani Sundays seem to be back. I am looking forward to this. Wonder if he will DH for himself.

Angels hit the ball hard last year. And look to do so more this year.

Pirate coach David Eckstein is playing in the OF for the Pirates at camp long after retiring for reasons? Must be because Fletcher is playing OF now.

Taylor Blake Ward is confused for Taylor Ward when asking questions. Again. I still like calling Taylor Ward Taylor Blake Ward for the LOLZ.

Angels have a ton of IF depth. So much that Fletcher may end up in RF sometimes.

Julio isn’t back yet but Maddon is optimistic. Do not know what trending means exactly?

Angels Broadcasts will be done in a trailer outside the stadium. Weird but safer I guess.

Around Baseball

Trade time! Padres and Royals exchange players. Royals Acquire OF Franchy Cordero, RHP Ronald Bolanos From Padres For LHP Tim Hill.

Add Ray’s Meddows to the Covid19 list. The list grows again. And the season hasn’t started yet.

A-Roid is looking to push for a salary cap. As he is one of the bidders for the Mets, it is something that is possible. Backlash came from the union obviously. A-Roid is also talking with Patriots owner Robert Kraft in developing for the Mets. Very busy guy it seems. So busy that he will not be broadcasting Mets games this season. Which will be awkward no matter who owns them next year.

Rangers new park won’t have fans yet, but the stadium is being talked about. It is very Astros like in ways and will be cool for once.

Former Phillies 2B died at age 84. Not virus related, most likely.

Joe West continues to be Joe West-ing as he took off his mask after the first inning. Seriously, Robo Umps, great idea.

That list of Umps opting out are revealed. The bad ones aren’t, shamefully.

Official scoring will be done remotely. I mean they use cameras, they do not need to be at the game.

Mariners Top Prospect hurts his wrist. Mariners will Mariners.

Bud Norris was released by the Philles. Nab him Billy!

ESPN games will be broadcast from Bristol. Not that anyone would want them at their ballpark anyway.

MLB has done the math and ranked MLB numbers by WAR produced. Low numbers get the biggest numbers, shocker!

Nationals may not be able to use Nats Park this season. May end up in Florida, which is a terrible idea.

Blue Jays in trouble too as home games are still not 100% approved in Toronto. Canada has their stuff together.

Tommy Lasorda got in hot water when he told a fan to “Go back to Korea.” He apologized.

Anything I missed? Post below for upvotes!

I thought ShoDays were for early start Home games on Sundays and the extra attendance they would bring in on the otherwise low visited game. This now doesn’t make much sense in the short season. The Angels should just use a regular rotation this season. The only thing different for the fans this season is starting times.

Looks like the Puig deal to Atlanta has fallen through because he tested positive for COVID19. Doesn’t he do a lot of bat sniffing, or licking, or something weird like that?

I thought Juancho was the bat sniffer.

Or they could hire Fabian as a coach.

Kinda OT, but T-Mobile sent out their annual MLB.TV offer email today. Looks like they’re also including a digital subscription for the Athletic.

R.I.P. Tony……….Could it be possible that ARoid becomes a MLB owner? Well when the top bankers tag along with you to see another liar and cheat something is in the wind. Is there not low point that Manfred will lead MLB down to?……..BTW, why is Eck a coach with another team and not with us? Why is Torii Hunter not an Angels coach? 65 years ago Disneyland opened its doors to paying customers, Happy Birthday Disneyland. Great “E” ticket rides kept being added and eventually the lettered coupon books were a thing of the past……….Stay healthy my friends.

How many former Angels are coaches? Even if it’s only a handful, they can’t ALL stay with the Angels. I’m willing to bet they’d love to coach for the Angels if they could.

The real question l guess is how many former Angels are coaching with us now? l believe that maybe we could do better, at least we got Langston still around.

GPB, I would say that the Angel organization is second to none in loyalty to former players. And as far as Eck goes, maybe he doesn’t want to be situated so far from his family (in Florida, IIRC), especially his brother, who got him the job with the Pirates.

Well, Torii works for the Twins, the team he spent most of his career with. Eckstein spent his best years with the Angels, but less than half of his MLB career was in a halo uniform.

I’d still love to have them in the Angels organization, but they might not perceive themselves as being as tied to the Angels as you and I would like.
