News About the Angels
Here is the link to the Angels schedule. Andrew Heaney is going to be our opening day starter. Julio Teheran has been missing from Summer Camp for two days in a row now. There is a lot of speculation about why that might be. The LA Angels have delayed the start of their Monday workout because of a snafu with the virus testing.
Other News
MLB issued a statement about the testing delays. Basically they say “Oops! It won’t happen again.” A number of teams, including the Angels lost workout time because of this. Let’s hope they get it sorted out.
The Opt Outs And Positive Test Results
Nick Markakis has opted out of the 2020 season. Joey Gallo has tested positive for coronavirus. Freddie Freeman not only tested positive, but he is pretty sick. Aaron Nola, Adam Haseley, and Christian Bethancourt are all on the Phillies’ COVID-19 IL along with a bunch of other guys we already knew about. The Phillies might end up having to throw in the towel. Luis Urias and Angel Perdomo of the Brewers have also tested positive for COVID-19.
Does anyone know the best way to try to get a refund from mlb.tv subscription? I think I’m a bit late, but I got an email from them with a new pro-rated price for the season ($34.81). Problem is, I’m in Texas, and 20 of the 60 games would be blacked out. Just not worth it.
Any tips? I think I’ve heard try to have your credit card company cancel the charge, but it’s too old now I’m pretty sure since it was months ago. I feel the product has changed now that the schedule is out, just not sure of my options (if I have any).
I have no idea. Try asking this on today’s thread and see if you get an answer?
MLB are very cheap and cutthroat in their business practices. I vowed never to buy the season package ever again since the only time I got it I would frequently find the game I wanted was “unavailable.” I had in fact paid to get every game.
Living in Japan, I purchased atBAT thinking I could watch every game. After purchase, and before the season started. MLB gave exclusive rights to NHK, government run TV in Japan, and blacked out the whole season.
Contacted MLB. “We won’t give you a refund. Read our TOS, it tells you everything there. BUT, the black out is for the video feeds. You can still listen to the audio/radio feeds.”
“How about a partial refund?”
“No. Read our TOS. Enjoy atBAT, and thank you for being a fan of MLB.”
That was in 2002. I never gave them my money again for anything atBAT. ARRRRRRRRRR!!!
Yep. Once they have your money they don’t give a shit about you. And you’ll never get it back.
Anytime something like that happens, I just go to the credit card company and file a dispute. MLB can try to fight with the banks, but they’ll have their work cut out for them. Even if it doesn’t go your way, which is rare, at least MLB had to deal with an organization that is more ruthless than they are.
I spent weeks dealing with the fairmont on a billing mistake, trying to track people down, no responses, etc. Filed a credit card despute and then they start calling me to figure it out.
Thanks for all the replies everyone! I think I’ll just eat the cost and cancel for next year. It auto-drafted from my bank this year and I didn’t notice/care at the time. If there was ever a season to learn this lesson, it’s this one! $36 isn’t that bad, even for 40 games. I may call the credit card company to dispute, but it is probably not worth my time and hassle at this point.
Thanks again CtPG community!
At first the stories were all “when will the season begin already?”

No wonder this World, yes the USA is all I care about with nothing to see beyond my borders /s, is so messed up. We just switch angles when we get what we want.
Yeah right. Arte should pay me.

Angels’ schedule has their opponents with the highest W-L % from 2019, compared to most other teams. The short season helps us a ton, but it’s still an uphill battle.
I was thinking about that but it’s not a worry since this isn’t 2019. Remember (I know it’s difficult, it was so long ago!) we went 72-90 last season. That’s part of why the Dodgers number is .482. And we did extremely poorly against AL West teams , 5-14 with Houston, 6-13 with Oakland. Take our record out and those other teams don’t have particularly favorable opponents’ 2019 pcts.
That .534 winning percentage of teams we face would come out to 32 losses in a 60 game schedule instead of 30 if we opposed teams with a .500 pct, assuming that was the overriding factor. So it’s not all that much of a problem. For reference, an average team with the Dodgers schedule would win, if teams in 2020 were the same as in 2019, 31 games as opposed to our 28. You’re right on the money about the short schedule.
Yes, I’d prefer to face teams that had a .400 pct last year! But anyway, we’ve got Rendon, Shohei is healthy, Canning is too (at least for now). To sum up, it’s uphill but it’s not as steep as it looks. If we’re any good we can overcome the schedule.
At least you are admitting that it IS something that needs to be overcome.
Yes, all those players testing positive is pretty depressing, but there is a ray of sunshine. Joe West will be working!

Crud. We can’t get a break, can we? Can we swap Freeman for Joe West?
Electronic Umps will be interesting.
Joe West couldn’t call the strike zone correctly in Tee-Ball.
Yikes. West believes he’s somehow above the virus.
“If this game hasn’t gotten me by now, no virus will get me. I’ve weathered a bunch of storms in my life. I’ll weather another one.”
Yes.
Kole Calhoun testing positive really sucks :/
I recently had my nose probed to be tested, I feel so sorry these guys have to do it regularly.
Agreed. I got nose swabbed in May. Can’t imagine going through that more than once a month.
Apparently the new test only goes as far up your nose as your index finger can go. The old test in early May apparently was a throat tickler via the nose, but it’s not that bad anymore.
I’m getting tested tomorrow. I’ll let you know how many knuckles deep they go.
Going to hopefully see my mom, I’m not sick and have no known exposure. Just being safe.
Thankfully, he’s asymptomatic, but it still sucks.
Totally unfair season. The A’s are used to playing in front of no fans. Gonna be a tough opener. 😉
17 days and counting. Can’t wait. But if this becomes the “Woke” show, I’m out. #justplayball
