LA Angels Monday News Crash: Rewatching 2002

Starting tonight, Fox Sports West will air all wins from the Angels 2002 World Series run. While it is annoying that Adam Kennedy’s 3 HR game will conflict with ESPN’s The Last Dance, I guess there’s not really much anyone can do about that.

Crashing the Pearly Gates will have gamethreads for each game over the next week-plus. As someone who has not seen most of these games (and someone Zooming into college classes right now), I will definitely watch and participate, even if I’m shouting into the wind!

Billy Eppler answers a few questions from fans…

The Angels are paying their employees!

Commissioner Rob Manfred will allow teams for furlough employees.

Clayton Kershaw definitely does not like the Arizona plan.

And finally, where there’s baseball, there are brawls. It appears the Rakuten Monkeys are still undefeated, if you chose them as your CPBL team.

sucks not to have FSW right now and also sucks to have paid for a full season of MLB At Bat in Feb with nothing to watch

so many memories from October 2002, one of the best months of my life

Billy….I don’t like this answer about the draft.

With the draft we take a best-player approach, but generally we do gravitate to “toolsy” players

because we need pitching, you see.

We’re like a football team that only drafts offense early.

Billy, I know pitchers can be a bit of a crap shoot, but IF you draft pitchers early, and often, you INCREASE your odds of hitting the jackpot and getting a true ace. You can only use so many “toolsy” outfielders and middle infielders in a system.

His thought process might be that toolsy outfielders turn into studs that can be traded for pitching once somebody else has identified and cultivated the talent. That’s the best I got.

That has been the mantra for years, and that pitching The Angels have been going to trade for has been non existent. Except maybe a reliever or two. The Angels need starters that can go deep into a game, 7 innings minimum.

Happy 420 to those who partake.

The 2002 run was awesome. The wins are definitely more fun to watch but given the sports vacuum FSW could’ve played the complete series, given a truly accurate visit down memory lane and shown the intense momentum swings.

but would you watch the games we lost? I don’t think I would. I’d just as soon skip it, acknowledge there was a loss and watch the next game.

I have the 2002 Series on DVD, with the option of having Rory’s commentary over Buck. I’ve watched the complete Series once or twice to get the full experience, But honestly the wins have gotten way more views.

We have every game from the 2002 postseason recorded, but we have NEVER watched the losses again.
