Jeff Passan reported late last night that MLB is considering playing games in Arizona very soon! Obviously, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered before this happens.
I dredged up the links that I could find but the situation is grim, my friends. Baseball is once again postponed in Japan, and not because baseball fever is what is catching. After those Hanshin Tigers tested positive for the novel coronavirus, NPB has turned around and extended their postponement of their baseball season. It’s not just the Tigers. Former Buffaloes manager Masataka Nashida has also tested positive.
Here is some relatively light material related to the Angels.
New walk up song for Mike Trout? Luis Robert (White Sox organization) versus Jo Adell. Word is you can’t go wrong picking either one. Fangraphs favors Adell, who is slightly younger than Robert. Joe Maddon has specific plans for watching the entire game 7 of the 2016 World Series, just not any time soon. Soon there will be some relief from the scouting ban. Will the Angels get the memo?
And now for the bummer news from around MLB.
Al Kaline died Monday at the age of 85. Skullduggery with the baseballs. Say it ain’t so!
No……..absolutely no fucking way!!!
This virus has been relentless in killing large numbers of people already. BTW you would have to quarantine everybody ( technical people, in addition to the players so that they don’t catch and spread the virus amongst each other by going into town ). sorry bad idea….NO SPORTS TILL 2021 THE WAY IT LOOKS.
Favorite player when growing up. I guess that’s a thing now:
Mine was Jerry West, then Nolan Ryan when he arrived. Jim Fregosi is in there too along with Rick Reichardt, but i have to say Mr. Clutch aka Zeke from Cabin Creek
If it’s 110 degrees, yes it would suck, and yes make sure it’s safe but…
Imagine how many home runs Mike Trout will hit.
unfortunately I can also imagine how many we’d give up. Although, probably not as many as I thought now that I understand Stassi’s framing is as valuable as having a good pitcher. That we saw it wasn’t the case in 2019 is something I’ve chosen to ignore.
It just feels like it’s too soon to get games going, even with precautions.
Good rule of thumb is “Would l go to that game without a mask tomorrow?”
Shit, I don’t think i’ll go to big public spaces like a ballpark until we have a vaccine. It’s just not worth the risk, and I don’t believe we will be able to safely contain it without the vaccine. Social distancing only works as long as we keep it up, as soon as people are allowed to go to a game without a vaccine you’re going to have someone in that crowd that has it.
Well, Eppler is still holding on to the premise that the “stellar” pitch framing crew of Stassi (yuuuuccckkk) and Castro (Hooray not Stassi) will make the pitching staff much better and take care of missing out on thew top pitchers. Yeah, keep holding on to your dreams there Mr. Eppler.
This MLB GM found a way to win without paying for pitching, opposing teams HATE him.
Totally lol’ed. Thanks for that.
Hahahaha.
Don’t diss them man. We need these guys. You can’t have the catchers on your team making more than the other side of the batter.
Some folks are just looking for a reason to get canned.
If they play outdoor baseball in AZ in the summer, they should really play game starting at 6am and end them before the afternoon. I’ve seen a few Tempe Angel game at Diablo in the summer and it really, really sucks to play baseball at 7pm at 109 F. It doesn’t really cool off from there much either.
Fans aren’t invited so that won’t be an issue, but it will after a week it will really wear down the players and anyone involved. Maybe it looks good on paper to the suits in NYC, but it just won’t be quality baseball. And
Overall, this doesn’t seem feasible – i wish it were though.
Oh hell yes. That heat is killing, especially around Phoenix with the “heat island” effect- all the concrete and asphalt holds the heat and radiates it upward at night, raising the temperature. My sister decided to move out of Glendale to Washington after too many mornings where it was 100 degrees at dawn.
it’s hot in Brazil and Australia right now too, and that didn’t stop Tom Hanks and Rita wilson from catching Covid 19.
If fans aren’t there I say do it at 3 am. Screw it. Record it and then show it on tv later.
I suggested 6am because that’s the time of day you can buy beer here again (stops at 2am)
