Man – I started thinking that maybe with a guy like Canning you just start him in MLB, let him take his lumps, adjust and see if he progresses, because he wasted – potentially – his last pitches in his arm in AA. Seems a waste. A guy with his pedigree at a big D-I school could probably survive MLB as a middle reliever for a year then move into the rotation.
Barria is my dark horse this year. He was very good in 2018. I think 2019 was a mess for myriad reasons, but his stuff was similar to my eye. He seemed lost. The times they used an opener, he pitched poorly, and I just think he needs to be given a spot in the rotation and given 100 innings to see how he does. Honestly, if Canning is lost, I think they should give Sandoval the same treatment. It’s time to see what we have with those two – and give them an uninterrupted chance to become mid-rotation or back-end starters.

Sounds like Barria is the replacement for Canning.
